Snuggle-Pedic Original Memory Foam Pillow

While memory foam has been my go-to for years when looking to buy a new pillow, I never knew that I’d been sleeping on one that was doing so much damage to my neck and shoulders. I had invested in a pillow from Amazon that was basically a thick, firm slab of memory foam.

I’ve always loved the spongy feel of this material – some of my favorite sneakers have memory foam soles – but I never knew there were so many memory foam pillows to choose from. Ones with gel-infused foam for hot sleepers, firm foam, plush foam, and everything in between.

As a stomach sleeper, my head and neck were always elevated with this firm pillow I’d bought, and this wasn’t doing any good for my neck and spine. It was time to ditch this pillow and find one that was better suited to my sleeping position, and then I stumbled on Snuggle-Pedic.

Snuggle-Pedic has a ton of pillow varieties available on Amazon, and their Original Memory Foam Pillow in the standard size immediately stood out to me. Just from the pictures it looked plush and comfortable, but most importantly, not as firm as the one I was sleeping on.

The ‘Add to Cart’ button was calling me, so of course I had to answer. After sleeping on this pillow for several weeks now, my overall opinion is that: there are memory foam pillows, and then there is the Snuggle-Pedic Original Memory Foam Pillow. This pillow is by FAR the most comfortable, snug (pun intended) and plush pillow that I’ve ever laid my head on, and I don’t exaggerate.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The Original Memory Foam Pillow came rolled up in a cylindrical shape neatly packed into the box. One thing that stood out to me was that the box was much bigger than the compressed pillow, which I saw as a huge bonus.

I’ve often had issues with returning memory foam products as they always expand, therefore don’t always fit back in their original packaging. I could already see that once the pillow had been unboxed and expanded to its intended shape, it would easily fit inside this box. As far as first impressions go, Snuggle-Pedic was off to a great start.

It took a while for the pillow to expand fully, and I’d say it was approximately a few hours. The first image below was taken just as I removed it from the packaging, and the second was several hours later.

You can clearly see that it expanded, so it’s important that you allow a few hours before sleeping on yours. While the chemical offgassing smell was minimal, I still waited a day so the pillow could fully air out. Pillows aren’t like other memory foam products you may have, like a mattress topper for example. Since it’s touching your face (albeit through the pillow case), a chemical smell won’t be pleasant while your face is pressed into the pillow.

Trust me, I was so eager to sleep on this pillow the same day it arrived, but I couldn’t lay my head on it for more than a few minutes – the smell was overbearing. I’d advise that you keep it in a well-ventilated area prior to sleeping on your new pillow, so that any offgassing has dissipated when you’re ready for bed.

Loft

Snuggle-Pedic didn’t specify the loft of their Original Memory Foam pillow on the Amazon listing, so I measured it and it came to about 5.5 inches, as shown in the picture below. A pillow’s loft refers to the height of the pillow when fully expanded, and different loft measurements are best suited for different sleeping positions.

For example, it’s recommended that stomach sleepers (like me) invest in a thinner pillow with less loft, so that the head isn’t as elevated when turned to the side. This can often result in head, neck and shoulder pain. Between 4-6 inches of loft is the average for most pillows, so this measurement fits nicely into that range.

You won’t often find that memory foam pillows come with an adjustable loft, which means the pillow opens so you can add or remove filling to your liking. This is because memory foam is a solid material, rather than having polyester fibers (lots of fluff) that you can customize.

A pretty clear sign that your pillow isn’t adjustable is if the seams are sewn shut – like this one is – while other pillows will have zippers that unveil the filling inside. I’d say this is the one sacrifice you make by purchasing memory foam products, so you’ll want to do your research carefully to ensure the pillow’s firmness suits your preferences.’

My Sleep Trial Experience

– Back and side

Even though I’m a lifelong stomach sleeper, I spent a lot of time with this pillow propped up behind my back for watching TV and reading in bed. While I also had a firmer foam pillow behind it for extra support, the Snuggle-Pedic pillow was so comfortable and I could sit in this position for hours.

In terms of sleeping on my back and side, this pillow gave me all the support that I needed – I never once woke up with neck or shoulder pain (which sometimes happens unfortunately, particularly waking up with a stiff neck). Snuggle-Pedic recommends that their Original Memory Foam Pillow is suitable for all sleeping positions, and I can confirm that my full 8 hours per night were achieved when sleeping on this pillow.

– Stomach

Sleeping on your stomach with your head constantly forced to one side sounds like a recipe for chronic neck pain. While it isn’t ideal to sleep in this position for the long term, until I can fully get used to sleeping on my back (the recommended way to sleep), I felt so supported by this Snuggle-Pedic pillow that whichever position I fell asleep in, I was comfortable and in a deep sleep all night.

The only downside for stomach sleepers is that the loft isn’t adjustable, so a thinner pillow would be more ideal for this sleeping position to maintain proper spinal alignment. 5.5 inches is within the average loft range, but a pillow with less elevation so that your head and neck aren’t uncomfortably raised is what I’d be looking for as a stomach sleeper.

Cooling Properties and Breathability

As you probably noticed, Snuggle-Pedic has printed the words “bamboo” and “Kool-Flow” all across their Original Memory Foam pillow. Their trademark Kool-Flow technology is said to provide all-night comfort for those who usually sleep warm and wake up sweating. It’s made of bamboo shredded memory foam that offers exceptional breathability, so that your head and neck remains cool and you can enjoy restful sleep night after night.

Thankfully, sleeping hot isn’t something I’ve had to deal with too often. But in the warmer months of the year, I want all of my beddings products to be cozy, yet breathable at the same time. Having already slept with this pillow for a handful of hot nights, I had no issues with overheating at any point during the night.

Maintenance, Care and Warranty

Snuggle-Pedic claims that this pillow is fully machine-washable – which is extremely uncommon for any memory foam products – so this is a massive bonus that you can throw it in the wash when you’re doing the usual load with your sheets.

It’s best to wash the pillow separately (it’s unlikely you’ll fit anything else anyway), in cold water and on a gentle cycle. I’d also be careful with what laundry detergent you use, so any liquids that are bold colors (blue, green, purple) I’d steer clear of just in case.

A white laundry powder or clear liquid might be best to stay on the safe side, as the last thing you want is to accidentally stain your new pillow. When your load is done, carefully squeeze out any excess moisture. You can either leave your pillow to air dry, or place it in the dryer on a low heat setting. The dryer should fluff up the pillow to its original size so that it’s ready to sleep on.

There’s also an impressive 120 night sleep trial, so you can test out the pillow for a whole four months to see if it’s a keeper in your eyes. If you’re still not sold, send it back for a full refund. Snuggle-Pedic gives you a 20 year warranty on top of that, which covers any defects that may come up in this generous time frame.

It shows how confident they are about their products to offer trial and warranty policies like these. As for me – and it’s already been a few months of sleeping on it every night – this pillow isn’t going anywhere.
