The Best Twin Bed Frames

Candace Osmond

A bed frame is a structure that can be used to support the mattress and the sleepers. Depending on the type you choose, bed frames can come in different shapes and sizes, with different additions that make it look fancier. Some bed frames can be used with a box spring, as they are foundation enough for your sleeping needs. Twin bed frames are ideal for children’s bedrooms, as they are the perfect size to support a toddler. If you’re looking to learn more about bed frames and where you get them, this article is perfect for you.

If you’re looking for that one customer-approved product, this is it. Like many other AmazonBasics items, this frame has had a huge success with the public and yes, it is available in a Twin-size. We’re talking about a foldable bed frame that doesn’t require any tools to mount, and can easily be stored away when not needed.

Not only will this make a good choice for a toddler bed, but if you often find yourself having to host overnight guests, you should also have one of these in your home. It is available in a 14 and 18-inch height, with the 14-inch one offering 13 inches of under-the-bed clearance to store your boxes, toys, or whatever it is you want out of the way.

The Twin-size version of this frame measures 75 x 39 inches and weighs a total of 26.3 pounds. It is made from a durable type of steel with a black finish, and it can support a total weight of 250 pounds.

2. Classic Brands Hercules Bed Frame

Highlights

  • Height: 14 inches

Pros

Adjustable bed frames provide elevation in the upper side of the body, which can be useful in a lot of scenarios. They can help replace the stack of pillows that keep one’s head elevated, providing a more comfortable position to read or watch TV in bed. They are also helpful to those who suffer from sleep apnea and want to prevent airway blockage for better breathing.

This bed frame requires some assembly.  It’s mostly about raising the legs, rotating the support arms to hook them onto the bolts, and then installing a few screws. Much like the frame we’ve shown you before, this one also comes with 13 inches of space under the bed, which should provide you with a decent amount of storage options.

You need to make sure that the mattress you own or are about to purchase is compatible with an adjustable bed frame and then this beauty will do the rest.

Zinus is a brand that makes reliable platform beds and bed frames, and the Shawn is one of our favorites because it balances the price with construction quality and leaves you with a bed frame that you can rely on for years to come. Made from quality steel, this bed frame serves as a platform that prevents having to purchase a box spring.

You can use this bed with memory foam, innerspring, or hybrid mattress, but we would have loved to see some sort of system to keep the mattress in place. The Twin-sized version of this bed can support up to 250 pounds of weight, while larger frames can support up to 500 pounds.

As with every other 14-inch bed frame we’ve reviewed today, this one also provides 13 inches of space for storage underneath the bed, leaving you with multiple options for keeping stuff out of the way (which is particularly useful if you have a small bedroom).

4. DHP Bed Frame

Highlights

  • Available sizes: Twin, Full
  • Construction: metal
  • Height: 71.5 inches total height

Pros

  • Beautiful design.
  • Multiple color options.
  • Good price.
  • Sturdy metal construction.

Cons

  • No storage under the bed.

There is something really magical about a canopy bed. It kind of reminds us of the king’s bedrooms where the beds were decorated with beautiful curtains and everything has a royal and luxurious feel to it. Today, canopy beds are used even in children/teenager’s rooms, and they are particularly popular with girls that still have that innocent princess spirit inside them.

While there are multiple color options, we do love the white bed frame because it matches a wider variety of bedroom decors (yes, there is also a pink version if that makes a more suitable purchase for you). Thanks to the slat support system, you get to decide if you want to use a box spring or not, but it surely isn’t mandatory and you can just slap the mattress on top of the frame.

The round finial posts are a touch of elegance, while the heart scroll design of the frame makes this entire product very dreamy and a perfect addition to a girl’s bedroom (or a boy’s one, we don’t judge).

5. Zinus Yelena Bed Frame

Highlights

  • Available sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, King
  • Construction: steel
  • Height: 14 inches

Pros

  • Rounded and square corners option available.
  • Foam padded tape for less noise.
  • Good warranty coverage.
  • No box spring needed.
  • Can attach a headboard.

Cons

  • Customers claim it still makes noise.

We’ve added the Zinus Yelena bed frame to the list because we just can’t just ignore the quality of these products compared to their really good price point. We know that cheap and durable are two terms that don’t always go together, but Zinus’ bed frames really do offer a lot considering how little they cost.

The Yelena bed frame has a solid steel construction and comes with 12 inches of storage space underneath the bed, which is capable of fitting a lot of boxes and items that can help you clear up some space in the bedroom. The frame is constructed with foam padded tape to prevent the platform from making any noise.

You can also add a headboard to the frame if you want to because it comes with openings to hold one in two of the legs. You will, however, have to purchase the headboard separately.

Types of Bed Frames

Depending on the type of bed frame chosen, the construction will also vary. Different bed frames are better suited for different styles and needs, so here is what you need to know about the main existing types:

Platforms Beds

They generally offer enough support for you to place your mattress. They have spaced wooden or metal slats that allow the mattress to breathe, while also supporting the weight of the bed and the sleepers. They have low profiles, do not require a box spring, and they have a low price point.

Storage Platform

These beds have storage space underneath them that usually comes in the form of pull-out drawers. Plenty of people love these because they make great use of space and allow them to store clothing or bedding items underneath the bed.

Canopy Bed

These kinds of frames have a distinctive design and they are easy to recognize because of their overhead frame. This top frame is usually used as support to hang curtains that give the bed more privacy, together with a stylish overall look. More expensive canopy bed frames can have intricate carvings and decorative elements, while contemporary bed models have a more minimalistic look. Some models do require the use of a box spring, and more intricate models have a higher price point.

Four-poster Beds

They’re characterized by frames that have four posters on each corner of the bed, yet do not include the overhead frame that canopy beds are equipped with. These types of bed frames can be as expensive as thousands of dollars, and they will require the use of a box spring for a full mattress and sleeper support.

Panel Beds

These are often referred to box spring beds and they have flat wooden panels that define the headboard and the footboard. They are also characterized by side rails which help support the mattress without you having to purchase a foundation. They are taller compared to other types of bed frames, but they have a really low price point.

Bottom Line

Buying a good frame isn’t all that complicated even if you want the Twin size, which is the smallest of them all. Most manufacturers sell their bed frames in Twin size, meaning that even if you find a Queen-sized bed frame that you like but need a smaller one, you can dig a bit deeper and see if that brand offers it in the size of your choice.
