What makes a good slipper?

Kids and often parents aren’t fans of wearing shoes around the house but it is helpful to have those little feet kept warm and protected from injury. You also don’t want them to wear their outside shoes inside as who knows what they have been into out in the yard.  It will also help come bath time not to have to scrub down filthy feet!  The best way to get your kids to wear slippers is to find ones they like. You need to find a pair that fits comfortably and is easy for them to take on and off. Who knows, you might even find a pair that are so cute you may want a matching pair for yourself!

Ideally, when it comes to learning how to walk, bare feet is the way to begin. But at some point they will have to manage to walk with shoes and so toddler slippers are a great bridge. Since they are lightweight, soft and flexible, it makes an easier transition for little walkers. Of course in the colder winter months you will want to keep their feet nice and toasty and a cozy pair of slippers is just the ticket. As cute as novelty and character slipper are, you will want to stay away from them for new walkers as they are bulky and less stable. Once they are secure on their feet, they can enjoy the full array of choices out there.

Things To Look For In Your Kid’s Slippers

Non-Slip Soles:  Remember that these slippers are for active kids and you will want to be sure that the soles of the slippers are non-slip. For super active kids or for indoor to outdoor use you will want to have a nice sturdy rubber sole. For more of a cozy nighttime slipper, you can choose a soft sole but just be sure that the bottom has rubber dots on them making the soles non-slip.

Warmth – Cozy is a term you will hear with slippers often because it connotes warmth.  However, you may want to have your kids in slippers after a bath in the middle of summer as well.  This may mean a pair of cozy winter slippers and something more lightweight for the summer season.  For a winter time slipper make sure you are looking at the inside of the slipper as well as the outside.  Choose a slipper that has a warm interior made with plushy materials or fleece. These slippers will be very comfortable and keep those little feet warm.

Materials – Stay away from anything stiff and inflexible. For kids’ slippers to be comfortable, the materials used must be soft. Memory foam insoles are a good option, particularly if the kid in your life needs to wear slippers all day but you can get away with any sort of cushioning.

Comfort – Kids hate to be uncomfortable. Look closely at the peer reviews, look for posts about sizing discrepancies or comfort issues.  The last thing you want is a closet full of adorable slippers that are uncomfortable and that your child won’t wear. As with most apparel this is usually an easy return policy, just double check before you make your purchase.

Breathability – Kids are active even inside. They will probably be playing games and building forts while in their slippers. These fun activities will get your child’s feet beginning to sweat. Look for slippers made from breathable material that will both keep those active feet both warm and dry.

Last Words:

It is important that you keep your kid’s feet warm because cold feet can increase their chances of catching colds and the flu. Slippers also help to protect your children’s tiny feet from injury when they bump into furniture or step on the toys they didn’t put away.  Finally, it is helpful to keep your kid’s feet away from germs and dirt that bare feet are bound to find. It is a great policy to have to have your children remove their shoes at the door and change into their slippers when they are home. Wearing slippers will also help extend the life of your children’s socks as it will limit their wear and tear. Their socks will also stay a lot cleaner when they aren’t acting as a mop on the floor.

A great pair of slippers can really bring a lot of joy to your child.  There are so many fun slippers to choose from and finding a pair that you know will make your child happy will be the pair you know they will want to wear.  Just make sure they are comfortable as well as good looking!
