I am thinking to buy does that worth it? or i have to buy another pad

Jeanne Cross

My new Nacreous pad is still making me hot, after I have been asleep for a while.. I did layer it on top of a waterproof mattress protector..
Help please, so disappointed after spending all that money !!

Roger

This mattress pad did not work at all. My wife was still hot. I do not get hot sleeping but did with this Nacreous pad.

Will The Nacreous Mattress Pad still work just as well under a flannel sheet ?

My question is one which probably many people are trying to figure out:
Can one buy any Tempurpedic “Contour” Mattress (Supreme, Elite, Rhapsody), place THIS or ANY cooling mattress cover on top of it, and get the same effect as buying any of the above mentioned models with the “BREEZE” feature (which everyone knows costs $1,000 extra).

The mattress pad can make a big difference, but only at the mattress surface. Keep in mind you won’t be getting the benefit of the deeper inner workings of the mattress.

What is the best mattress topper to use with this mattress pad I have significant hot flashes at night and did purchase this item, but the jury is still out on if it truly is keeping more cooler at night. I am still flipping from side to side in the middle of the night to find the cooler side.
But, back to my original question, I would like to find a mattress topper since my mattress is a little too firm. I noticed in quite a few comments I have read certain toppers still hold the heat in even with this mattress pad,

Frank, do you think using both the Nacreous and the Dryline Mattress protector is overkill on a Tempurpedic mattress? I’m concerned about losing the conforming/hugging feeling of the mattress. Is the Dryline sufficient protection sufficient and comfortable alone?

You wouldn’t lose that feeling with the pad. It isn’t overly thick and is made more to cool. It’s more of a pad than a topper. I would get the pad before the protector if your goal is to stay cool on a Tempurpedic.

Could this be coupled with the sleep innovations topper to cool me down but to soften things up with my current mattress? Med-Firm Icomfort right now, but just a little firmer than would like and I do nothing but sleep hot. Thanks for your reviews.

Yes you can add this on top of the sleep innovations topper to help keep you cool.

I recently purchased a loom and leaf mattress and brooklinen sheets. My wife and I are both hot sleepers. Is this product what you recommend putting on top of our new mattress? We are much less concerned with bed bugs or spills than we are with overheating at night. Do we even need a mattress protector? Thanks in advance, we have enjoyed and appreciate reading this website.

Hey Conor,
Yeah this would be a great addition to help with cooling you down. It has Outlast technology that works great for keeping you cool. It’s always a good idea to have a mattress protector to prevent any spills or dirt from getting into the mattress and degrading it over time but having a mattress pad will definitely help. Slumbercloud also has a Dryline protector you can combine with this.

Is the pad water proof? If not what would you recommend to add to it for water proof?

No it isn’t but you can visit here for waterproof mattress protectors. We did an 8 hours spill test to see which ones would hold up.

How do you think this will work with a waterbed? I know pad may be hard to “tuck” around mattress. Trying to find something to help me sleep during menopausal hot flashes.

Hi Anita,
Great question! As Frank alluded to, The Nacreous Mattress Pad is constructed like a fitted sheet so it should work great on your waterbed. The pockets are very deep (20”) and the skirting fabric is stretchy with a full elastic band around the bottom to really hold it in place, even on a waterbed. One thing I want to point out is it does come with a 30 night trial period. You can test it out on the bed just to make sure it works as intended, but I do think it should work great!

Frank Apodaca

Well its like a fitted sheet, so to be honest I’m not sure. I’ve never had a waterbed. Talk with William at Slumber Cloud, he’s very helpful.

We just purchased a Sealy Posturepedic 3 inch memory foam topper with chill technology, but it is still incredibly hot. My husband and I are both hot sleepers and can’t stand this. I really liked the support it gave me to combat my regular lower back pain so I don’t want to return this item. I’m looking for a mattress topper or pad to put over it to hopefully get us back to a cooler sleep like we had prior to putting this foam topper on our bed. In the above review under “Promised Features”, it says “Does not work well with memory foam toppers.” Why is that? Would you recommend the “Extra Plush Bamboo Fitted Mattress Topper” instead? Which would be better for our current setup?

Our top pick is Slumber Cloud. I thought I corrected that mistake as we had a previous comment above on it but I missed that particular area of the review. You can see from the above comment, that what was meant was that it can be hard for the pad to fit well with such a deep mattress plus the extension of a 3 or 4 inch topper. So just make sure the depth works for your mattress and your topper. Thanks for pointing that out and I changed the article to reflect that.

Great review!
Did you use this with Slumber Cloud sheets as well? Or just regular sheets?
I tried your SLUMBERPARTY code but it didn’t work. Perhaps because of their Labor Day sale? Just letting you know.

Hey Ken,
We just used regular sheets. We haven’t quite gotten to sheet products yet. Thanks for letting me know, most likely because of the labor day sale but I will check on that.

Kristi

Is this waterproof?

Will this work over another pad and under a microfiber sheet? I have a sleep number bed with a 4″ foam pad, topped with a very soft and plush bamboo matters pad. I have a Comphy microfiber sheet over that. Can I use your pad between the bamboo pad and microfiber sheet and still achieve cooling?

Replies

Frank Apodaca

Hey Alisa,
We tested the pad with just a sheet over it and it works really well. I don’t think you’ll have any issue putting a microfiber sheet over top, but of course I do think it would be more effective where the pad can directly absorb your heat. I talked with Slumber Cloud and these are his words on the technology.
One thing that I like to mention is that the technology works similarly to a sponge. A small sponge can absorb less water than a large sponge. Similarly, the more technology you have on your bed (or higher comfort ratings) the more heat it will absorb. This is why I suggest for sleepers to layer their entire bed with Slumber Cloud products.

what is meant in the con section that it doesn’t work well with memory foam toppers? I have a temperapedic mattress, which is cooking me. Add to that my hot flashes and that I already sleep warm, and you have a recipe for a restless night of roasting, throwing off the covers, cooling down, pulling them back up. I was researching cooling mattress pads and saw this, but in the review, memory foam mattresses aren’t addressed. How do you know it doesn’t work with memory foam, and why do you say so in the cons, but don’t explain it in the review?

Replies

Frank Apodaca

Hey Susan,
What was meant by the con there is that it was tight to get it around the mattress plus a topper depending on how deep your mattress is and how thick the topper is… It actually works very well for memory foam as memory foam tends to make people hot depending on the technology. We’ve tested it on quite a few different memory foams and I don’t sleep on a mattress without it now and same goes for the other review that tested the Nacreous. Thanks for the comments and I’ve adjusted the article to reflect this.
I hear a lot of complaints of overheating on the Tempurpedic, be sure to check out some of our reviews on mattresses as we do heat retention tests, and so far the Hyphen performs the best in that regard, which is also a memory foam mattress.
