There’s no shortage of options when it comes to modern mattress shopping. Not only do you have plenty of products to choose from, but you can browse these options without ever having to leave the house.
As convenient as this is, the new challenge lies in the fact that you have to narrow hundreds of choices down to just one final choice. That’s why we’re here to help. By thoroughly testing out some of the most popular options out there, we can help you narrow them down to the ones that’ll work best for your needs.
I recently received the Mint mattress by Tuft & Needle, and I’m really excited to see how it compares with the original model we tried out back in December 2017.

Multiple Efforts to Keep You Sleeping Cool
We talk a lot about cool sleeping because your body temperature needs to drop slightly in order to enter REM sleep. It’s during this time that restorative processes like the production of crucial hormones take place. This product does make efforts in each of its three foam layers to keep you sleeping nice and cool. This would include the use of:
- Ceramic gel
- Open-cell foam technology
During the course of our complete review process, we’ll be opening up the mattress and carefully analyzing each of these layers. In addition, we’ll take a look at the cooldown process of the Mint mattress and see how it measures up against the more than 60 mattresses I’ve tried out.

Progressive Support for Proper Spinal Alignment
I like that the box is inconspicuous. You don’t really want everyone to know what you’ve got
waiting on your front porch. The very first thing I picked up on after my mattress had a chance to decompress was the progressive support. You can definitely feel the mattress pushing back in response to your body weight, and this is critical for proper spinal alignment.
If you have issues like lower back pain, this is definitely a plus. Don’t confuse good support with a mattress being overly firm, though. This product really does have a nice balance of comfort and support, and I can feel the top layer in action providing pressure relief.

A Step Above the Original Model
The Mint mattress does currently cost $350 more than the original Tuft & Needle mattress, and there are several good reasons why:
- Additional layer increases thickness from 10 to 12 inches
- T&N Adaptive® foam is enhanced
- 30% more graphite for maximum heat dispersion
- 30% more cooling gel beads for added support and cooling
- Added edge support
Of course, I’ve only had my mattress unboxed for a day now, so we’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what the Mint mattress has to offer. Make sure you check back in for our complete review as we take an in-depth look at:
- Edge support
- Complete layer lineup
- Feel and performance
- Motion transfer
- And a whole lot more!
