The Sleep Innovations mattress topper is one of a kind in this category. With this topper, you’re getting the benefits of a memory foam mattress topped with a fluffy layer of comfort. This differs from other products because most of them are just the topper. So when you sleep on it, you’re kind of sinking into it or laying on a hard block of foam.
The fiberfill comfort layer is like sleeping on a giant pillow. It attaches right to the bottom 2” gel memory foam layer so that it’s not moving around. This topper is also best known for its ability to cool you down. The cooling gel memory foam layer helps to keep your temperature regulated for a more peaceful night’s sleep.
This product is the ideal solution for those who sleep warm or have mild back pain. The memory foam layer is designed to help relieve painful pressure points and keep your spine in its natural alignment. Not to mention, it’s also great for adding comfort to old, worm out lumpy mattresses. Although, if you are looking for something to make your mattress more firm, this won’t do the trick, it will make it softer.

What Sets This Product Apart?
There are quite a few things that set this product apart from the rest in its class. The first and my favorite thing is the fiberfill cover. I absolutely love this cover because it feels like i’m sleeping on a really big down filled pillow. As I said earlier, you aren’t just sinking into a block of foam, there’s that extra layer between you and it.
The one thing that really stood out for me was the way it is set up. Some toppers that I have seen have one layer, and if they come with another one, it just sits on top of the foam, resulting in a constant moving surface. This topper’s extra layer fits on the foam securely with the elastic edges, which brings me to my next topic-construction.
Construction
The construction of this topper is pretty great. I was quite impressed by the elastic edges that wrap around the memory foam. This construction helps to keep the top layer in place. The fiberfill cover is soft and squishy, not firm. This is why I was saying that it’s probably not the best for people who are looking to make their mattress more firm. It actually has the texture of a microfiber type comforter.
The stitching of the fiberfill top is quite simple and looks like a single stitch. Unfortunately, what this means to me, is that if just one thread gets pulled, all of it is going to start to come undone. This could escalate to fiberfill falling out and making that layer less comfortable.
The 2” gel memory foam layer seems pretty durable. I was squishing it and it seemed to bounce back well and didn’t just stay in one shape. This layer is the support layer and the fiberfill topper is just for comfort. The gel layer helps to align the spine and is ideal for back, stomach, and side sleepers, which I can completely agree with.
Comfort
Comfort is something that is important to myself and my husband and this is one of the main selling points of the topper. So, is it really as comfortable as it advertises? It sure is! I was extremely satisfied with the level of comfort that the Sleep Innovations offers. The mattress portion of it was very supportive and the top layer gave the fluffy comfort that it states in the description. If I knew what sleeping on a cloud felt like.
I would probably say that this is what it felt like. My husband agrees with me that the mattress topper was supportive and comfortable. He has a very achy back at the end of the day and after the first night of sleeping on this, he woke up with less than normal back pain than he would have on a regular mattress topper. As for myself, I could sleep in any position and remain comfortable and supported throughout the night.
What’s Promised
A cool and comforting night’s sleep is the main concept with this product. It promises to keep you comfortable while regulating your body temperature throughout the night. As for the cooling factor, I would have to give a huge thumbs up to them for keeping their promise. My husband and I stayed cool on it all night long, and we’re really warm sleepers.
As I talked about above, the comfort was there too, as promised. Even though the fiberfill comfort layer feels more like a comforter, it was still giving me that extra boost of fluffiness. I like anything fluffy, but not without something firm under it. They also advertise their topper as “comfort combined with gentle, pressure-relieving support”. This is a true statement and I applaud them for it. It definitely is a gentle support all around.
Heat Retention
The Sleep Innovations makes claims that their memory foam has a cooling effect on the body. Was this another true statement? Yes, it was, which is quite impressive. I tested the heat retention of this topper and found that it took a surprisingly quick 9 seconds to cool down from 130 degrees to 98 degrees. Only a few mattress toppers that we have reviewed have had this quick of a cooling down rate. I didn’t find myself overheating or sweating at all while I was on it.
Maintenance, Protection, Care and Warranty
This topper is very low maintenance, which is fantastic. Since the insides of the cover is made from a polyester fiberfill, it can be easily machine washed. All you have to do is take the cover off, toss it in the washer in cold water with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Once it is washed, you can throw it in the dryer on a low heat, tumble dry cycle. All it asks is that you don’t bleach or iron it.
As for the foam layer. If something happens to make its way to it, just spot clean it with a damp cloth. This should be obvious, but don’t put the foam in the washer or dryer. You can also find these instructions right on the corner of the top layer.
The warranty is another area in which this topper exceeds expectations. It comes with a hefty 10 year limited warranty. It warrants that the cover and the foam will be free from defects when it comes to material and workmanship. If your product has a defect, Sleep Innovations will repair or replace it. If you make the mistake of laundering your cover before something happens, the warranty will be null and void.
How Easy Are Returns
If for some bizarre reason you aren’t satisfied with the quality of your product, you have the right to contact the company and fill out a claim form. You also need to submit a copy of the original receipt of purchase that has the date of purchase on it. It must also include all of the law tags that are attached on it.
Here is the only downside to this form of return-you have to provide transportation or accept the freight charges to the nearest Sleep Innovations factory. Shipping products like this can get expensive, especially if you live in an area that charges duties and other fees.
Consumer Feedback
Durability
In my personal opinion, I do believe that the memory foam portion of the topper would be the more durable of the two. The fiberfill comfort layer may not hold up after a few launders because of the filling and the stitching. Fiberfill tends to bunch when washed, unfortunately. As for what others had to say, some said that washing it didn’t have an effect on the topper, but others claimed that it lost its fluffiness and the filling balled and bunched. Others also had complaints of loose stitching and filling spilling out after laundering.
Odor
Upon opening the product, there is a slight odor to it, but it does dissipate quickly. As for others said about it, most people did complain about a small odor, but most were quick to say that it went away after being aired out. Others said that there was no smell, which means either it had a leak in the plastic after packaging or they got really lucky.
Customer Support
I took the liberty of contacting customer support myself and they were extremely helpful. I didn’t have an issue with the product itself, but I just wanted to see how long it took them to respond to a phone call. I was greeted by a friendly customer service representative that answered all of my questions in a timely manner with abundant knowledge. I didn’t see many complaints about them upon my investigation, but there are always a few disgruntled reviewers that seem to have a bad experience.
Feedback on its Features
A lot of the customers who bought and tried this product agreed that it helped a lot with back pain and that they stayed cool at night. Most of them said that they felt better the next morning and that they were sweating less while they were sleeping. There had been a few complaints that the memory foam portion was retaining moisture and that they had to remove the quilted top layer to let it air out. A majority of customers boasted about the comfortable fiberfill layer and how it did truly make them feel like they were on a fluffy cloud.
Conclusion
The Sleep Innovations topper definitely deserves a gold star in my book although it is on the pricier side. I investigated all of the features and if they were all true, which they were, and they all exceeded my high expectations. If you are looking for something that is going to make your bed softer instead of more firm while keeping you cool, this is the product for you. If you don’t like to sleep on soft surfaces, I don’t recommend it.
