Sealy Memory Foam vs Tempurpedic Foam Mattresses: Which is For You?

Mattress technology has improved bounds across the last decade or so. You’re no longer needed to merely cope with a poor mattress of which you can feel the springs popping at any moment, there are plenty of styles that can suit your comfort needs.

A couple of these types of memory foam mattresses are Sealy and TempurPedic. Memory foam is a fairly popular style. This style is based around a foam material that ‘remembers’ your body shape, and sinks you into the mattress to best suit the way you sleep.

What Are TempurPedic Mattresses?

TempurPedic is a standard memory foam, centered more around stability during your sleep, with even surfaces and a more solid base, but one that still molds around your body shape slightly.

TempurPedic mattresses are known not to sag. The need to turn these mattresses over compared to others – including Sealy – is limited, and is much heavier a mattress than the Sealy products.

The Benefits of TempurPedic Mattresses

The benefits of the TempurPedic mattress mainly come from the comfort of the product and the fact that they use some fairly high densities in their foams, however it’s fairly difficult to find that information on their products. The material cuddles in the body, proving you with a consistent night’s sleep. You will find yourself settling quickly into the bed, as memory foam provides less feeling of movement between partners if you sleep with one.

Depending how you like to sleep, the TempurPedic mattress is much warmer than other mattresses. It retains body heat much more easily which can either be a good thing in the winter, or a bad thing if you like to sleep in the cool. If you live in a cool house, you’re likely to feel this benefit much more than others.

Negatives of the TempurPedic Mattress

The negatives of the Tempur Mattress again depend slightly on taste. As I would like a cooler, fresher environment, I would advise myself against buying this product.

Also, the company that manufactures these beds does have a lack of transparency when it comes to the fine details of density levels and the quality of materials used.

Sealy Mattresses

Sealy is a US brand out of Texas, whose mattresses are known as posturepedic mattresses, which means they are built for a more solid sleep, and made from a mix of both gel and memory foam. Sealy products also use a spring coil that you do not find in TempurPedic products.

Benefits of Sealy Mattresses

Their main selling point is around the decent support to your posture that is provided, as you don’t sink into the mattress as much as you do in traditional memory foam. The coils and the firm material support body shape and are great if you suffer from back pain.

As mentioned in the TempurPedic benefits, if you’re looking for a cooler night’s sleep, you would most likely be looking towards getting a Sealy product. I am of the opinion that sleeping in a fresher, cooler environment is better for sleep, and would choose this over body heat retention. For that reason, I would definitely recommend, and use, a cooling mattress pad like the awesome SlumberCloud Nacreous.

What Are Sealy Mattresses?

The price of TempurPedic are high too. We’re talking about thousands of dollars worth of expensive. This is a far cry from the Sealy products that are a lot more reasonable, but also offer more expensive mattresses if you so desire.

Negatives of the Sealy Mattresses

The Sealy mattress is much more of a medical piece of equipment, marketed at posture-driven sleep as opposed to comfort. The solid base and coiled springs prove a problem across the long term operation of the product.

There aren’t many reviews online for Sealy products. And while a lot of the products have few reviews, these are positive, it would be interesting to actually hear a more even scale.

You also need to wonder about why these products are so cheap compared to other brands of mattress. Is this because of the material? Just like the TempurPedic, Sealy has a major lack of details on density as well as materials used, so it’s hard to say.

Sealy offers a broad range of products but does not concentrate on a specific firmness, yet their offering of softer mattresses is minimal. They will claim to offer more, but in actual fact their mattresses are much more niche than TempurPedic, memory foam mattresses.

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, there’s very little separating the two brands. One the one hand, there is a major disparity on price, but on the other hand there are far more positive reviews available for the more expensive TempurPedic than the Sealy memory foam ranges.

Both brands have a great array of options open to the customer even in the memory foam niche. The fact that there are different levels of firmness is an attractive prospect, given how divisive and protective people are about their comfort when in bed.
