It is not uncommon for people to choose the wrong mattress and end up suffering because of it. Some of you may think that just because you don’t have any muscle or limb pains, you don’t require a suitable mattress for your sleeping position and body configuration. However, you should know that there are many people all across the world who end up with aching muscles because they’re not sleeping on a mattress that’s right for them.

This leads to a series of complications. Aside from the obvious pain that you’ll have to deal with during the day, an improper night’s sleep causes you to lose focus, perform bad at work, be cranky the entire day and eventually feel exhausted because your body wasn’t able to regenerate while you slept. That’s why a good mattress can make or your break your following day.

How to Choose?

We want to say that there are no cutting corners when it comes to a mattress that provides proper body support. Sadly, not everyone can afford a mattress that costs thousands of dollars. That means you have to do the research even more carefully, to find a mattress that’s both within your budget range and can provide the advantages you’re looking to get. Try to keep your expectations realistic: when you’re on a budget and hoping to find a good mattress, you need to be aware that you’re trading some benefits at the cost of others. Finding the perfect product is hard when you’re looking for the best price-to-quality ratio.

In the following paragraphs, we’ve written about the best mattresses currently available on the UK market. From memory foam beds to innerspring, we cover the best ones here. Most of them come in a generous number of sizes, provide free trial nights and free shipping, but each model has its own unique layout configuration. If you live in the UK and you’re scouting the market for a good new mattress, you’ve come to the right place!

Top 6 Best UK Mattress Reviews

1. The Leesa Mattress

OVERVIEW

  • Available sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King
  • Delivery: Free in all 50 states, via UPS ground
  • Firmness: Medium-firm

The 10-inch Leesa mattress falls on the medium-firm side, but it does have a very interesting and comfortable construction. It all starts off with a thin cover, very soft and pleasant to the touch. Underneath the cover, lies a 2-inch layer of Avena foam, characterized by bounciness and a latex feel. Then comes another 2-inch layer of contouring memory foam, which should do a great job in relieving pressure. At the base of the mattress, lies a 6-inch Core Support foam layer, to make sure that this eco-friendly mattress can evenly distribute your body’s weight.

If you are a side sleeper, the Leesa mattress may be a little too firm for you, as you want the first layer of foam to allow your shoulders and hips to sink into the surface, while the rest of your body stays afloat. Since the first 4 inches of the mattress are very responsive, they are great for people who often like to switch sleeping positions without too much trouble.

Pros

  • Avena foam layer provides good airflow.
  • Free shipping.
  • Responsive and bouncy.
  • Motion transfer is kept at low levels.

Cons

  • Not very comfortable for side sleepers.
  • Not suitable for people who like to feel their bodies sinking into the mattress.

We’re going to start off this best UK mattresses round-up with one of our favorite models: the Emma Original. It integrates Next Generation Airgocell foam, that promises to be so elastic, it can adapt to the shape of everybody. Thanks to its open pores, this foam allows for maximum skin breathability, as to ensure comfort in every situation, no matter the temperature of the room you’re sleeping in.

The top cover is made out of polyester, it’s easy to remove and clean in your washing machine. The side cover is made from the same material, while the bottom one provides a combination of 11% polypropylene and 89% polyester. The mattress is basically composed of 5 layers: the top and side cover and 3 different layers of foam in between. The first layer of foam is the Airgocell we mentioned earlier, the second is visco-elastic foam that evenly distributes the body’s weight for a better support and the third is supportive cool foam which ensures the required counter pressure for your body to stay comfortable.

You will benefit from 100 nights of free testing that allow you to take some time to adjust to your new Emma Original mattress and see if it delivers as promised. Should you be unsatisfied with your purchase, a simple email or phone to customer support will have them appear at your doorstep to collect the mattress, free of any hidden costs.

3. DUO Mattress

OVERVIEW

Dimensions: There are 3 available sizes for the DUO mattress:

  • Double: 135 x 190 cm
  • King: 150 x 198 cm
  • Super King: 180 x 198 cm

Next in line, we have the DUO Split Comfort mattress which definitely has a couple of tricks up its sleeve. The first thing that stands out is the split comfort idea. You have the possibility to choose 2 reflex foam inserts that can be either soft, firm of medium. They are placed side by side inside the mattress, customizing the sleep region for each of the 2 sleepers. The soft insert is great for people who sleep on the side and often end up having shoulder pains in the morning due to a very rigid mattress. Next, there is a medium type of foam, more suitable for people who sleep on their backs or stomachs. Last, but not least, buyers can choose firm foam inserts, which are suited for people who sleep on their back and often have problems with spinal alignment and experience back pains.

The next winning point of the DUO mattress resides in the 5 layers of comfort provided to cater the needs of every kind of sleeper. First, there is a hypoallergenic cover, made from visco- elastic polyester, that promises breathability and comfort. It can easily be removed, and machine washed, not to mention that it’s also fire-resistant. The next layer is 4 cm tall and contributes to moisture absorbing, while giving you the extra comfort you crave every night. The third layer is the customizable one, allowing you to choose your own level of firmness, individual from that of your sleeping partner. The fourth level is made of 1,000 individual pocket springs, giving you the responsiveness and flexibility, you need from a mattress. Last, you have the base that chambers the springs, providing foam support and protection.

The DUO is a great mattress for people who have individual sleeping preferences or several muscles pains that require them to sleep under very strict conditions and comfort levels. It works with all standard UK bed bases, delivery is free of any cost in UK mainland and you get the standard 100 nights of free trials plus 10 years of warranty.

Pros

  • 10-year warranty.
  • 100 nights of free trial.
  • Free shipping in mainland UK.
  • The possibility to choose between different firmness combos.
  • Firmness options are tailored for different types of sleepers.

Cons

  • Delivery takes long, starting from a minimum of 8 days.
  • No showroom, mattress can only be tested via the 100-night trial program.

The mattress features 5 layers of comfort. The first layer is the surface that provides good air flow, which allows your skin to breathe while you are sleeping. The second layer is called Simbatex and acts as another comfortable support system. Third, you have the 2,500 pocket springs we mentioned earlier, designed to individually adjust for better sleep support. On the 4th level, you have the Visco memory foam, that tailors to your body’s natural shape. Last, but not least, there is a solid support base with 7 different zones.

Whenever the mattress needs cleaning, you can unzip the sleep surface and throw it in the washing machine. Using a soft damp cloth, you can clean the grey base fabric, by using small circular motions. Featuring a zip-off knit cover (for easier removal and cleaning), an open-cell top layer (to ensure skin breathability and provide good response) and high-density memory foam (for good pressure relief and support), the Casper mattress is pretty much everything you’d expect from a product within its price range.

A section of the mattress will reveal a middle transition layer that promises to distribute the weight of your body evenly across the surface, while the base layer acts as a support for the entire mattress. Basically, this mattress provides 4 different foam layers: you have open-cell foam, responsive memory foam, adaptive memory foam and, for a longer lifespan of the product, there’s the durable support foam.

The handles located on the sides of the mattress are a cool feature to have, as they allow easier handling and maneuvering of the product. It’s best suited with platform or wooden slatted beds, although it will do just fine with all standard foundations. As with the other mattresses we’ve reviewed in the article, you get the 100 nights of free trial, which actually makes a lot of sense when you’re purchasing an expensive mattress that you can’t test in a showroom. Conclusion

We’re having a very hard time picking our favorite mattress between the Simba and the DUO. We like that the Simba features 5 different layers, each with its own very specific role. It provides good response for the sleeper, especially due to the generous number of pocket springs that make sure your mattress has good bounce.

On the other hand, the DUO covers pretty much everything you need when you have to share your bed with someone who prefers a sleeping configuration, different from yours. Right when ordering, you can choose between the available combos of firmness inserts, so that both you and your partner can enjoy a mattress as firm or as soft as each one of you prefers.

Customizable mattresses are now a thing of the present and this is an option we’re hoping to see in every new model manufactured from this day forth. It’s very important for everyone to get a good night’s rest, but when you are a back sleeper that requires a firm mattress and your partners prefers sleeping on the side and thus requires a softer one, one of you will inevitably wake up sore. And mattresses like the DUO help prevent such problems.
