Best Duvet Clips

Corey Majeau

If your duvet is encased in an expensive, luxurious duvet cover it isn’t going to matter one bit if your duvet does not stay connected to said cover. Now, many duvet covers have ties or buttons to keep these two integral items attached but truth be told they never seem to be enough.

That is why the bedding industry responded and began making additional clips and grips for your duvet to truly hold your insert in alignment with your chosen cover. By using these flexible clips and grips in multiple locations it will feel like your duvet and its cover have married and become one.

These duvet clips by Fresh Idea have been found to work so remarkably well, they were written up in the New Yorker Magazine in their Ingenious Design of the Week Section. Talk about some street cred! The piece first debuted in 2019 and it was reprinted in 2020 because the item is that good.

The writer simply bought her duvet clips off of Amazon in 2015 and was still raving about them years later. So if these clips can fill a New Yorker Magazine writer with that much inspiration just imagine what they will do for you and your bed.

2. Primpins Duvet Clips

  • May damage material

With your choice of eight different linen colors, these stylish duvet clips are meant to be seen. They add detail to the look of your duvet set and they will hold your duvet in place so you never have to search for warmth or comfort.

The pin element measures only 0.8 mm in diameter, about the same as a small size safety pin and each weighs under 0.25 ounces, so they won’t weigh your mattress down. They come in a set of four and look so great you will wonder why you wanted to hide your duvet clips at all!

3. Duvet Dotz

Highlights

  • Innovative magnetic pin construction
  • Lightweight
  • Set of four

  • Won’t puncture bedding
  • Holds 10 pounds of pressure

Cons

  • Does not work as well on extremely thick duvet fabric

Duvet Dotz features an easy release magnetic pinning system that makes unpinning your duvet fast and secure! Simply put the pin through the materials you want to connect. Place the magnetic backer on the pin and it will hold in place with over ten pounds of strength!

Plus they look super cute exposed on your duvet cover while adding a bit of flair to what could be a boring, ordinary cover. This is a great purchase for your teens as they will securely hold the insert in place no matter what games they might be up to! They can be purchased at such a great price point and since they add to the look of your cover you might consider getting more than one package.

Made from environmentally friendly plastic, you don’t have to worry about these clips damaging your duvet cover or insert. While they aren’t the most stylish looking they come 20 to a pack.

That’s right, 20! If you are worried that clipping the four corners won’t be enough, you have plenty more to clip along the sides. Or if you have a large family you can make sure that no one has to fuss with their duvet insert one more night with just this single purchase!

5. HX AURIZE Duvet Cover Snaps

Highlights

  • Package dimensions: 5 x 4.6 x 1.5 inches
  • Product weight: 4.8 oz

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Sixteen per order
  • No need to remove for washing
  • Iron on patch – no pins
  • Not bulky

Cons

  • Do not come with directions

These duvet snaps connect directly to your duvet and stay there! No fussing each time you launder a piece of your bedding. You simply iron on the patch to the location where you want to snap the bedding together.

Plus they are so thin and lightweight you don’t have to worry about pins or bulk. They come 16 in a pack so you have enough to add additional snaps along the side for extra coverage and still have enough for a second duvet.

What is the difference between a grip and a clip? In the end it is really your preference but here are a few things to consider. Duvet grips are mostly made from plastic or rubber and tend to come in a set of four. These grips go on the inside of your duvet cover in the corner and snap into place. While they are durable, if your covers go through a lot of movement and shaking they may unsnap.

That is not what you are looking to have happen. But if you are a relatively docile sleeper you shouldn’t have any issues. Grips are smaller and less noticeable than clips so if that is most important to you, you may want to lean in the direction of grips. Both are inexpensive and durable and are made to solve this specific problem.

Duvet clips are made from sturdy metal and covered with foam to protect the fabrics of your duvet and cover. The clips also attach to the corners much like the grips but they can also work along the sides giving you added protection. Due to their construction they are stronger than the rubber grips and can hold up to more shaking. Some people say they can feel the clips on the duvet because they are a bit bulkier than the grips. If you are tall and reach the bottom of your duvet this may be an issue for you.

Bottom Line

No one likes to wake up in the morning and find that all the fluff of their duvet has piled up at the edge of the bed by their feet and that they are only covered but the thin insert cover.  Purchasing a duvet clip is a great way to attach the two pieces so you can sleep as if they were one. If you have extremely delicate fabric, stay away from pin options that may harm your material. Make sure if you have a very thick duvet that your choice of clip can handle the bulk.
