The Best Anti-Aging Pillows for Your Skin

Candace Osmond

While sleeping is the one activity that you should never compromise in favor of anything else, it’s believed that it can also speed up the aging process. It’s weird when you think of it, because not sleeping can also make you look pretty bad, so we can’t help but wonder if there’s a middle ground. Can we keep sleeping for as long as we need to, but without having to suffer the signs of aging? Well, there’s something called an anti-aging pillow, but what is that and how does it even work?

Before we get into our buyer’s guide, we’re going to show you what the market has to offer those of us looking for an anti-wrinkle pillow (because age doesn’t take into account if you’re a man or a woman, wrinkles are for everyone!)

The Best Anti-Aging Pillows

1. Editor’s Choice – Just The Pillow by Save My Face!

SPECS:

  • Available sizes: One size (19 x 10 x 3 inches)
  • Construction: Satin, cotton
  • Pillow weight: 7.4 ounces

Our first product on today’s list is a hypoallergenic pillow with a fantastic soft construction that promises to help in the anti-aging battle. It’s made with a satin cover that caresses the skin, providing excellent comfort for resting. It’s designed so that side sleepers won’t feel as much pressure on their faces when resting in their favorite sleeping position.

It promises to reduce neck and back pain, but the truth is that if you suffer from any of those, looking for a pillow that’s designed specifically for that purpose is a much better idea. This pillow is, however, constructed in such a way to ensure that fine lines and wrinkles are reduced. It’s only available in a single size (measuring 19 x 10 x 3 inches), making it a great travel companion. The pillow is made with cotton, resulting in a construction that’s machine washable, being super easy to care for.

Pros:

  • Travel-size
  • Good for side sleepers
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Machine washable
  • Good price

Cons:

  • Considered too small by some buyers

2. Best for Travel – Everlasting Comfort Travel Pillow

SPECS:

  • Available sizes: One size (12.68 x 8.35 x 5.04 inches)
  • Construction: Memory foam
  • Pillow weight: 9.6 ounces

If you’re the kind of person that travels a lot, regardless of the method of transportation used, you might often find yourself in a situation where naps are mandatory (especially if you’re on long flights or drives). For those of you who want an anti-wrinkle travel pillow, the Everlasting Comfort travel pillow might be just the thing.

Containing luxurious memory foam for excellent contour of the cervical spine, this anti-aging pillow is designed to provide you with plenty of head support, thus working towards preventing sleep lines. Since the cover is constructed with a zipper, it can be removed and cleaned in the washing machine. The pillow has a set of ropes that allows you to customize the fit and make sure the pillow isn’t moving when you are. With less than 10 ounces in weight, this is a great travel companion even if you’re planning a 10-hour long plane trip.

Pros:

  • Great customizable fit
  • Comfortable and supportive
  • Washable cover
  • Easy to carry

Cons:

  • Can be a little hot

3. Best Customized – YourFacePillow Pillow

SPECS:

  • Available sizes: Standard, large
  • Construction: Bamboo cover, foam fill
  • Pillow weight: 56.16 ounces

This particular pillow seems to have all the elements needed to be considered one of the best of its kind. While advertised as being able to support your head if you want to sleep on the side, it’s pretty clear that this is the kind of product that “forces” you to rest on your back, because of the lateral elevated supports. You could also use it for side sleeping, and have your head rested on one of the side supports.

The cover of the pillow is made from one of our favorite pillow cover materials: bamboo. Being naturally hypoallergenic and breathable, the cover has plenty of aces up its sleeves, including the fact that it can be removed and machine washed. As for what’s inside the pillow, we love to see that the YourFacePillow uses CertiPUR Certified foam, leading to an overall construction that makes the pillow suitable for people who suffer from allergies.

The pillow is available in a standard and large size, but the outside dimensions for both of these are 21 x 12 x 6 inches. The difference between the two is that the standard size comes with side supports that are closer together, while the headrest is slightly lower. The standard version is the one preferred by the majority of sleepers.

Pros:

  • Made with CertiPUR Certified foam
  • Breathable bamboo cover
  • Machine-washable cover
  • Two size options, customizable fit

Cons:

  • Could use more neck support

4. Best Orthopedic – EPABO Contour Memory Foam Pillow

SPECS:

  • Available sizes: Standard, Queen
  • Construction: Memory foam
  • Pillow weight: 31.2 ounces

Available in a standard and queen size, we give you one of the best-selling orthopedic pillows that also includes important anti-aging properties. Due to the removable piece of silky-soft memory foam, you’ll be able to use this in multiple sleeping positions. The pillow is filled with memory foam, and while the manufacturer claims it’s breathable, we didn’t see any actual proof of cooling features integrated into the inner block of foam. The cover is made from rayon/polyester blend, which is also dust mite resistant. Thanks to the zipper, you can remove the filling of the pillow and then wash the cover inside your washing machine

Pros:

  • Good for all sleeping positions
  • Removable layer
  • Hypoallergenic cover, removable and washable
  • 30 day money back guarantee

Cons:

  • Flimsy zipper

5. Customer’s Choice – FaceLyft Pillow by Dr. Kenneth White

SPECS:

  • Available sizes: One size (11.5 x 7 x 11 inches)
  • Construction: Tencel cover, down alternative fill
  • Pillow weight: 3.45 ounces

For our last item of the day, we focused on a product developed to help you sleep in a therapeutic posture, all whilst making sure that all anti-aging measures are being taken. What makes this pillow stand out of a crowd of similar products?

It’s made with a quality Tencel fabric that feels soft to the touch. Since Tencel is a fabric that’s also naturally breathable, this could also serve as a pillow for those who tend to sleep hot. It has a natural curve around the neck region to support you in several sleeping positions. On the left and right side of the pillow, you can find two ear recesses that prevent ear compression, minimizing the pressure that could eventually lead to pain and deep creases developing in your skin.

Developed by Dr. Kenneth S. White, this is an ergonomic pillow that seems to have comfort in mind as its first marketing claim. However, the other claim is that the design of the pillow will lead to less pressure and skin folding, while also providing comfort and support thanks to its orthopedic shape.

Pros:

  • Ergonomic design
  • Less ear pressure
  • Good neck support
  • Great for side sleepers
  • Soft Tencel cover

Cons:

  • Ear recess should be closer to pillow edge

Sleep and Wrinkles

When it comes to aging (or sleeping, for that matter), the subject of wrinkle development as you sleep is quite a controversial one. It’s a well-known fact that sleeping is mandatory for being in tip-top shape, but there are people out there who argue about the fact that sleeping in the wrong position can cause premature wrinkles.

The first thing you need to know is that the scientific data available on this particular topic isn’t enough to draw a solid conclusion. The research available has often shown contradicting conclusions, yet some people are firm believers in the fact that sleep and wrinkles are, indeed, related.

But how does this occur, exactly? It’s been said that stomach and side sleeping compresses your face, pressing it against the pillow. When this happens for many hours every night, gravity can eventually lead to the apparition of wrinkles.

When you’re young, your skin is highly elastic and comes with increased levels of collagen that allows it to return to its initial shape when you wake. As you age, your collagen levels will decrease, making your skin tissue less elastic and more prone to wrinkle development.

What’s even more interesting is that these wrinkles are more likely to appear on the side of your face that you mostly rest on (for example, if you like sleeping on your right side, that’s where you can expect to see those sleep lines first).

Tips for Preventing Sleep Wrinkles

With all the assumptions about what sleep might or might not do to speed up the aging process, people have naturally started to come up with solutions to keep the phenomenon under control for as long as possible. What can you do to prevent the effects of sleeping on your skin?

  • Naturally, sleeping on the back is the best solution. However, this is easier said than done. If you’ve been a side sleeper all your life, old habits die hard, so it’s going to be difficult to adjust to a new sleeping position for long hours during the night. It’s important to keep in mind that side sleeping is one of the better positions for multiple situations (for example, expecting mothers can only feel comfortable when they sleep on their sides, so back sleeping isn’t often a viable option for them).
  • The second best thing is getting a special anti-aging pillow. Now, even the best regular pillow may not cut it. These come in all shapes and sizes. Some of them are designed to force you to sleep on your back, while others try to minimize the contact between your face and the pillow. Some of them will even assist with skin cell hydration.
  • Believe it or not, sunscreen products can actually help a lot. Applying sunscreen daily can reduce the chances of fine lines and wrinkles appearing ahead of time (that comes on top of the skin cancer prevention benefit).
  • Making sure that your skin is properly hydrating by applying a suitable night time face cream also goes a long way. As you age, your goal is to help boost the production of collagen, which is why face creams are collagen-rich when they’re made for people above the age of 30.

Conclusion

While your sleeping position might play a part in potentially accelerating the wrinkle development process, there are many other factors that can prevent this from happening. Buying a suitable anti-aging pillow should be combined with using the right creams and serums that boost collagen levels and help hydrate the skin.

As far as the pillow itself is concerned, you should pay attention to the design and construction of the product you’re thinking of buying. Does it help your head rest in a comfortable position? Does it come with a breathable cover? Can the cover be removed and washed? Does it provide enough neck support? These are just some of the factors you should consider before making your purchase.
