It’s tough to find a comfortable, firm mattress. Most of the time, they’ll feel similar to sleeping on the floor because they have no comfort to them whatsoever. Luckily for me, I found a firm mattress that was extremely comfortable. It contoured to my body well, I could sleep in any position comfortably, I got great sleep, and it’s affordable. The mattress I speak of is called the Pressure Relief Mattress. I tested this bed for a period of time and I don’t plan to give it up any time soon. My Thoughts About The Box

The box was nothing special if i’m being honest. It was just a plain brown box with the size of the mattress printed on it. It’s what was inside of the box that really caught my attention. When I opened the box, I noticed that there was a white casing around the mattress. This made it much easier to remove from the box and carry into the house. Instead of lugging the box up the stairs, I could just drag it by the top of the encasement.

Unrolling the mattress was rather easy as well. All you have to do is rip the white encasement down the seam and it opens right up. Do not cut it with a knife or scissors, as it could result in cutting the mattress.

Honestly, the one thing that sets it apart from the rest in its class is that it’s firm and comfortable. It has blended layers for support, comfort, and pressure relief to ensure you are comfortable and wake up well rested. The BioFoam that’s inside of it helps to keep your mattress fresh and safe.

Since this is a firm mattress, some may think that it’s not going to conform to the body like other memory foams. Well, this bed does, in fact, mold to the natural shape of your body and cradles you. Construction & Composition

The Pressure Relief Mattress is composed of 3 different layers.

• Cover
• 3” Memory foam: This layer cradles your body to keep you comfortable all night long.
• 3” of pressure relieving comfort foam: This layer gives you pressure relief to ensure you wake up pain free.
• 6” of high-density base support foam: The base support foam helps to relieve your sleeping pains and offers you full body comfort.

Comfort

In terms of comfort, this mattress is pretty great. I was able to sleep throughout the night and wake up pain free. My husband was the same way. He couldn’t believe how good he felt when he woke up. He also noticed that he was falling asleep a lot quicker than usual. He likes to rub his feet together to get comfortable, but he didn’t have to do that on this mattress.

I found myself sleeping on my back more, rather than my stomach. On other mattresses, I slept on my stomach because it was more comfortable. On this one, I can sleep in any position and still have pain relief. As a Fibromyalgia sufferer, it’s tough to find a mattress that really helps me sleep well, but this one seems to hit the good spot.

Even though this is a firm mattress, I was quite impressed by the comfort level. I could comfortably sleep on my stomach without it putting any pressure on my chest or stomach.

Support

This bed has exceptional support. The fact that both my husband and I had an equal amount of support and woke up each morning feeling refreshed, says a lot about it. He’s around 250 and i’m about 180 and it conformed to us equally and made us feel supported throughout the night. The fact that we could sleep in any position and not notice a change in the way it felt, was pretty great.

The base support foam definitely did its job. As we laid on the bed, we didn’t notice we were sinking in. We could practically jump on it and still feel support under our feet.

Edge Support

I have to say, the edge support of this mattress is better than expected. Memory foam mattresses aren’t usually known for their outstanding edge support, but this one is totally different. I could sit on the edge of the bed without sliding. It made our initial morning stretch even better because we weren’t interrupted by the sagging edges or falling off. I give this company a lot of kudos for creating a memory foam mattress with great edge support.

Motion Isolation

Since this is a firm mattress, the motion isolation seems better than other memory foam mattresses. My husband moves a lot in his sleep and if I feel it, i’m awake or can’t fall asleep. The nice thing with this mattress is that I didn’t feel his movements. I was rather impressed with that actually.

To demonstrate how well the motion stays in one spot, I took my handy bowling ball and wine glass with water and did a motion transfer test. I tossed the bowling ball on the bed several times to show how little the water moved in the glass.

Temperature Regulation Features

There really aren’t any temperature regulation features, but I can say that I didn’t sleep hot on the mattress. As you can see from the photos, there seem to be tiny holes in the cover, on the top and on the side, that allow air to escape instead of building up. Other than that, there really isn’t anything else to say about the temperature regulation features.

Heat Retention

I’m a really hot sleeper and so is my husband. If we are too hot, even in the least, we sweat. While we were sleeping on this mattress, we weren’t finding ourselves sweating or overheating. With my fibromyalgia, I get hot really quickly, and I wasn’t having that sensation on this mattress. We tested it with different levels of warmth in the bedroom. We got the heater up to about 75 degrees before it got to be too hot for us to sleep.

I also did my heat retention test with my heat sock and heat gun. I warmed a section of the mattress up to about 130 degrees and times how long it took to cool down to normal body temperature. It took about 26 seconds to cool down, which is pretty good for a memory foam mattress. If for some reason you find yourself sleeping too hot, a cooling mattress pad can help cool you down.

Smell

Since this is a CertiPUR-US Certified mattress, I was hoping that it wouldn’t have a smell to it upon opening. Unfortunately, there was a slight odor that came from the mattress, which is normal. Since it’s rolled tightly inside of plastic, those fumes can soak into the mattress, but they do go away after a few hours.

Durability and Quality of Construction

One of the most important part of my tests is checking for quality and durability. This gives me a clue as to how well it’s going to hold up and if there is any longevity to it. If i’m buying a mattress, I want to make sure it’s going to last a long time because I don’t want to have to buy a new one every 2 years. So, what I look for is pulls in fabric, how well the zipper holds up, areas that may be more prone to defects, and I even check the foams on the inside.

This bed seems to be well constructed for the most part. The zipper is tucked away inside of a little flap that keeps it secure. Unfortunately, the little part to the zipper that you grab on to was missing. I’m not sure if it wasn’t put on during packaging or if it fell off while I was taking it out of the package. All I know, is that it wasn’t there and it made opening and closing the cover quite difficult.

The other issue was with the foam. As I was inspecting it, I noticed that they weren’t stuck together very well. I could lift each layer with no force at all. I’m not really sure how that is going to affect the way it performs, if at all.

Are you easily awoken by motion? If you are easily awoken by movement from the other side of the bed, then you’ll really like this mattress. As stated above, I could hardly feel motion from the other side of the bed, and my husband moves a lot. This was one of the features I was very impressed by.

Not looking to spend a ton? The Zinus Pressure Relief mattress is very affordable, more so than other mattresses in its class. It’s not easy to find a comfortable mattress with these kinds of features at this price.

Do you frequently switch positions? If you are constantly switching positions because one is more comfortable than the other, this mattress can solve that problem for you. I was able to sleep in all positions while remaining equally comfortable. This is definitely a “one mattress fits all” classification.

Conclusion

I honestly loved this bed. I was very impressed by the lack of motion transfer and how well it dissipated heat. This is the ideal mattress for those who may be on a budget or looking for a firm bed that accommodates all sleep types.

I think that the value of this mattress is rather exceptional. You’re getting a comfortable bed with a 10 year warranty. You can pay thousands of dollars for a mattress that gives you less of a warranty with less features, but why would you do that when you can have all of that with the Zinus Pressure Relief Mattress?
