It’s not just at bedtime when you may want to lounge and relax. Throughout the day, there are dozens of moments when you just want to sit back and take a load off. I recently tried out the Yogibo Max bean bag, and it offers you the ability to do that and a whole lot more.

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill bean bag. Its dimensions are six feet long, two feet wide, and two feet off the ground, making it large enough for kids and adults alike to sit or lay down comfortably.

About Yogibo

First, let’s learn a little background on the company. In 2009, the Yogibo launched in Nashua, New Hampshire with the goal of making relaxing more fun. They made it their mission to put a new spin on the bean bag concept, allowing consumers to create their own personal spaces with a product they could grow with and allow to become a part of their daily routine.

Tight Packaging for Convenience

I think you’ll be happy with the packaging. The product shows up packaged tightly in a box weighing 27 pounds. The box itself isn’t much larger than the product, and this made it really easy to move around. It was simple to open to start using the product immediately.

There was offgassing when we first took the Yogibo Max out of the box, and this did stick around for a few days. This isn’t something that bothers me, but, if it does you, allow it around three days to air out before you start using.

A Look at Yogibo Max’s Material composition

The Yogibo Max has three primary components:

• The outer cover
• The inner cover
• The filling

Outer Cover

The outer cover is created to feel good against the skin as well as act as a barrier in case something gets spilled. Since bean bags contain filling, you need a permanent encasing. Therefore, the outer cover provides the ability to wash the point of contact so you can maintain hygiene and increase durability.

The outer cover of the Yogibo Max is made of a cotton/spandex blend, and it’s really soft-to-the-touch. You can wash it with like-colors in cold water and tumble dry on low. I was concerned with shrinkage during washing since this could have a huge impact on its ability to fit back on the body of the bean bag, but this won’t be an issue as long as you follow the washing instructions.

Inner Cover

The inner cover is composed of a spandex/polyester blend. Since your skin doesn’t make direct contact with the inner cover material while in use, the use of cotton isn’t necessary. That’s why the use of the more abrasive polyester is not a big deal. Polyester is more durable, and this is important since the inner cover is what houses the filling.

Microbead Filling

Some bean bags are filled with chunky recycled foam. This makes for an uneven feel that can be quite uncomfortable. The Yogibo Max, however, is filled with thousands of pea-sized microbeads that are nearly frictionless. This is the component that makes it so comfortable and form-fitting.

How We Used our Yogibo Max Bean Bag

Many bean bags are round in shape, and this limits their versatility. However, I loved that you can go beyond just sitting in the Yogibo Max bean bag. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that this is their most popular item. Just some of the things we used our bean bag for include:

• Reading
• Watching television- up to four people can sit on it at once, making it a great alternative to the sofa
• Playing video games
• Taking a nap
• Doing homework
• For use for our guests in place of an air mattress
• Crash pad for the kids to rough house with
• Place for the cat to take a nap (he absolutely loved the Yogibo Max and seemed to think it was his)

I love the way the product conforms to your body shape. Having researched other consumers’ experiences, I have found more than one person to report it works well for those with back pain and can even relieve pressure for those suffering with sciatica issues. Furthermore, its balance of support and comfort has also proven to work well with pregnant women and those with sensory processing disorders.

Lightweight and Portable

Don’t let this product’s large size fool you. It’s not difficult to move around. In fact, outside of its packaging, it only weighs 19 pounds. I was able to easily move it on my own, and even the kids were able to move it back and forth from their rooms to the living room with ease.

Not Great for Those with Mobility Issues

If you are the type who often has trouble getting in and out of bed or moving around, Yogibo Max may not be the right purchase for you. While I loved its conforming properties, the microbeads fit your shape in a way that makes it really difficult to move. There were some days following intense workouts at the gym where I debated getting settled in just because I knew there’d be a struggle to get back up.

Quick Word on Storage

If you read the product description, you may come across the statement that it only takes up four square feet of space when stored upright. In our case, we never really stored it. Instead, it just takes up whatever space it happens to be occupying at any given time. If you’re looking for a bean bag you can use as a permanent piece of furniture, be prepared as it does take up quite a bit of space.

Seats Up to Four, but Only One Can Lie Down at a Time

This product is six feet long, so it can definitely be used to seat more than one person at a time. In our case, we were able to comfortably seat four to watch a two hour-long movie. However, it’s only two feet wide. On the advertisement you may have seen, there appears to be two ladies lying on the bean bag together. Unless you both lie on your side, however, you’re not going to be able to accomplish this.

If you look a little closer at the image, you can see the girl pictured in the back is actually seated on the floor. However, the image is presented to make it look like something it’s not. Don’t let this deceive you.

While researching this product, a comment I read over and over again was that customers feel like they need to buy a second product. I think this could be partially attributed to the possibility they thought they could fit two people in a reclined position. If you’re looking for something you and a sleep partner can use simultaneously to lie down on, this isn’t going to work.

Due to the excellent comfort and versatility of the Yogibo Max bean bag, a growing number of companies are choosing to furnish areas like conference rooms and creative thinking areas with them. Durability

I have only had my Yogibo Max for a few weeks, so I don’t yet have first-hand experience in regards to how long it lasts. However, I have reason to believe it’ll hold up. For starters, it does incorporate the use of polyester in the second cover. Furthermore, you can rely on its one-year warranty for manufacturing-related problems.

There have been some complaints of the product beginning to lose shape and shrinking after two years of use. Although there is no weight limit for the Yogibo Max bean bag, excessive weight is likely to exacerbate these kinds of issues. The good news is that you can contact Yogibo and arrange to have the filling replaced. This can also be a great solution if you end up spilling something on the product.

Speaking of Spills….

I read more than one review of complaints of the product developing a moldy smell. Mold and moisture go hand-in-hand, and it’s very likely the product became wet and was never appropriately dried after the fact. Let’s face it… this can happen, especially if the product will be used mostly by children.

You may not notice for several days that a spill has taken place. In this case, you may want to think about replacing the filling. However, if you are able to catch the spill quickly, remove the outer cover and dry on low in the dryer while the body of the bean bag along with its inner cover air dries. I’d point a fan at it and suspend it from the ceiling to promote aeration.

Cost

For a bean bag, the cost of the Yogibo Max may seem a little steep at $249. However, you have to keep in mind that you get what you pay for. You can always choose to buy something that limits your positions or sacrifices on comfort with compromised filling. Yogibo also offers durable material, a one-year warranty, and the ability to customize with 15 color options.

Our Final Verdict

At the end of the day, I really liked my Yogibo Max bean bag. Yeah, the advertisement was a little deceiving, but I didn’t mind that only one person can lie on it at a time. I was highly impressed with its ability to conform to fit my body, and I was able to get very comfortable.

It does take up quite a bit of space, and I wish it was able to fold up for easier storage. However, this wasn’t a really big deal. After all, if I needed it out of the living room, the kids were more than happy to house it in their bedrooms for me! I found it to be highly versatile, and the whole family uses it on a daily basis.
