Voila Mattress

One of the most evident physical signs that it’s time for a new mattress is when you start to notice aches and pains when you wake up in the morning. The areas of the body that carry the most weight inevitably exert the most pressure when you lay on them. As your mattress degrades over time, it isn’t as capable of affording you the support and contour you need for optimal comfort. If you’re ready to enjoy a brand new mattress designed to cater to these problem areas, you’ll want to hear more about the Voila mattress.

Voila incorporates the use of five zoned coil technology to promote proper support to adapt to your body’s weight and keep you perfectly aligned. If you find it hard to fall asleep and that your hips and shoulders are pretty consistently uncomfortable, Voila has some relevant features for you to take a look at. The specs on the material components suggest you can expect high durability, so let’s dig in and learn more.

Voila Mattress Video Review

A Whole Lot of Layers

The very first thing that stood out to me when I started looking into this product was the incredible number of layers you’ll find within the mattress. I counted a total of 11 layers, so this is a really good example of a hybrid mattress. Most products I’ve tried out have around three to four layers, and this shows the level of precision Voila employed during the developmental stages of their product. Special consideration was made for each small layer in a strategic manner to offer sleepers an efficient combination of comfort and support.

Digging In

The top cover is comprised of stretch polyester, and its breathable mesh side panels are designed to facilitate proper airflow to help you sleep cool. They work with the next ¾ inch gel memory foam layer. Sleeping cool is important to ensure you’re best able to get into the deep REM sleep stages, and we’ll take a peek at how they work together with our thermal imaging camera.

The gel memory foam has a density of 3 pounds per cubic foot. Ideally, you want a density of 4-5 pcf in memory foam. However, it being combined with the 1 ¾ inch, 4 pcf dense layer, this shouldn’t be an issue. The memory foam is included to add pressure relief, support, cooling, and comfort. Since memory foam does has a tendency to envelop sleepers, so to speak, Voila places a ¾ inch layer of Talalay latex to add that bounce and response you need for easy movement. It also facilitates motion isolation to accommodate the pocketed coils below.

We’ll test out edge support here in a second, but if you sit or lay on the edge of your bed often, Voila takes measures to ensure you don’t sink in too far with their 2 ¼ inch layer of edge support foam. This is a very basic foam, but it goes a long way. It’s followed by a ¼ inch of support foam that serves to act as a transition from the comfort layers to the coils beneath to improve durability. The fiber insulator pad below it keeps the pocketed coils from repositioning and ensures airflow deeper in the mattress.

We’ve been leading up to it, and we now arrive at the 6 ¼ inch layer of pocket coils. Five zone pocket coils provide extra support where needed. The pocket coils are then cradled within the firm side support layer that wraps around the edge of the pocket coils. Voila strategically transitions in and out of the coils using the same layer combination, although the base is on a larger scale.

After the coils we have the 6 ¼ inch edge support system followed by another fiber insulator pad and an inch of support base foam. Finally, the combined unit rests on the 1 inch, high-density support base foam and final ½ inch of high-dense base foam. Each serves to provide that strong foundational base for support.

Firmness and Sinkage

Voila comes in three standard firmness options: firm, medium and plush. Medium is typically able to accommodate the majority of shoppers, and it usually works well with all sleeping positions. If you are very lightweight, plusher can be the way to go. Conversely, those who carry a lot of weight may benefit from firmer products. This can also prove true for people who sleep on their stomachs.

I tried out the medium product, so let’s see how deep I sink while standing in the middle of the mattress applying my 130 pounds to a 9 by 7 inch area. Medium products, in my experience, sink in around 6 ¾ inches. I sunk into the Voila mattress about five inches, so this is a quite a bit more on the firm end of the medium spectrum.

Edge Support

If you’re wondering just how well the two edge support systems in Voila work, I tested it out. Sitting in different positions on the edge, I found that I was very well supported even when placing the majority of my weight on the very edge. The edge support of Voila is superior to most of the other mattresses I’ve tried out. I feel very adequately supported. I think the edge support and coils combined offer a high degree of support. This could make it a great option for active couples or those who sleep near the edge.

Comfort and Support

I was pretty impressed with Voila’s formula and how well all the layers work together to offer the sleeper a great combination of comfort and support. Even though memory foam is used, you don’t get stuck in the materials, and it was very easy to move around in the mattress. I typically enjoy a slightly plusher mattress to medium mattress, and I was a little surprised at the firmness level I received with the medium product. If you aren’t comfortable on firm mattresses, you may want to consider the plush option. The great news is that Voila works with you if you aren’t happy with your initial firmness, and we’ll get into those details here in a moment.

Motion Isolation Capabilities

If you’re shopping for your next mattress with the comfort of two sleepers in mind, it can get a little tricky, and one of the things you have to ensure is that you consider motion isolation as you shop. We’ve taken the time to do some tests to help you determine what to expect when your partner gets restless and you’re enjoying deep sleep.

Using two 20 pound medicine balls, I started my test by dropping one on the mattress to see the bounce. The ball did bounce a little bit, and this indicates it should be easy to move around and get in and out of bed. This could mean a lack of motion transfer, however, so I moved one ball to the side and dropped another next to it to see the impact. The resting ball barely moved even when I dropped the other 20 pound ball very close. Check out the video above to see this test in action. The results indicate Voila could be a good solution for sleep partners.

Breathability and Temperature Regulation

We saw how air comes into the mattress through the coil springs and directly underneath the sleeper, so I put Voila’s heat transfer capabilities to the test. After laying on the mattress for 30 minutes, I tested to see how long it would take to return to a room temperature of 64 degrees Fahrenheit. It took 12 minutes and ten seconds, and this is slightly longer than the 10 minute average in my experience.

If sleeping cool is top priority in your mattress shopping experience, you may want to seek out a product that’s specifically designed with heat transfer in mind. However, 12 minutes isn’t bad, and I didn’t feel like I slept too hot. I’m a long-time memory foam fan, and I’d say, for memory foam, Voila did pretty well when it comes to breathability and temperature regulation.

Offgassing Follow Up

In my unboxing review, I reported a slight offgassing, so I wanted to follow up and let you know that the smell did stick around for a couple of days before it finally faded off. It personally doesn’t bother me, and you it wasn’t that noticeable unless your nose was positioned really close to the cover. Your pillow should provide the barrier necessary to minimize the smell. However, if you’re particularly sensitive, you may want to allow a day or two of airing time before use.

Maintenance, Protection, Care, and Warranty

After using this premium product, I definitely think it could be a great solution for sleep partners, and I felt very well supported laying on the product. If you think this sounds like it could be “the one,” I’m really excited to be a part of your journey to more enjoyable, restful sleep. You want to make sure you’re able to make the most of your experience by educating yourself when it comes to maintenance and protection, so let’s go ahead and cover the basic groundwork.

100-Night Sleep Trial

The Voila mattress comes with a 100-night sleep trial. This allows you more than three months to decide if you made the right purchasing choice. They just ask for you to try it out for at least 30 days to allow you to break the mattress in. You do have the option to try out a different firmness option if yours is too firm or plush. They even offer special accommodations on a case by case basis, and I think this goes to show the level of personalized attention customers can expect to receive. If you simply find it’s not the right fit for you, Voila will contact a partner to pick up the mattress and provide a full refund. Along with the sleep trial is a 10 year limited warranty.

Breakdown of the Cost

After using the Voila mattress, I can say that it is a premium product, and you’ll be taking advantage of the result of a high degree of attention-to-detail in the various layers you’ll be sleeping on. It’s capable of holding up to 300 pounds of individual weight, and I think you’ll find the added edge support to be convenient when you need to use the side of the mattress. If this sounds like just the type of product you’ve been looking for, let’s take a look at the cost.

Voila Reviews and Feedback

Overall, Voila is a premium mattress when comparing the level of quality with the price. I was able to move around well on the memory foam comfort layers, and I found the many efforts at increasing edge support made it very easy to get in and out of bed. A true hybrid, Voila incorporates an intricate layer placement of various material types to balance support and comfort in a way that’s very unique, and I definitely think it’s worth a try if you’ve had trouble in the past with painful pressure points.

I’d say my experience with Voila was pretty positive. Because some of the information shared here is based on my personal opinion, let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons based on the experiences of other customers. Who We Recommend the Voila Mattress For

We understand that, while online shopping has opened up many great deals for consumers to take advantage of, the hundreds of options can make it hard to find what will work best. It’s our goal to help match you up with the best mattress for your needs. Now you know quite a bit more about the Voila mattress, and, if you’re still reading, there must be some qualities you feel would be a good fit. So, let’s take a quick moment to ask yourself a few questions to see if Voila could be the sleep solution to fit your needs.

  • Do you have a sleeping partner who moves around a lot?
  • Have you always enjoyed the contouring properties of memory foam but found it hard to move around?
  • Do you weigh up to 300 pounds and are looking for a product capable of long-term support and comfort?
  • Do you spend a lot of time on the edge of your mattress?
  • Do you find intrigue in the idea of a hybrid product that strategically places various materials to accommodate sleepers?
  • Do you sleep on your stomach or carry a lot of weight and need a firmness that will best accommodate your unique needs?

If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, there’s a good chance Voila could offer many years of peaceful sleep you deserve.

Our Final Verdict

The Internet has taken shopping to a whole new level. You can buy just about anything these days at the click of a mouse, and mattresses are very much a part of this still relatively new business model. Customers take advantage of cuts in cost as the middleman is essentially cut out of the equation. By taking advantage of the security offered by Voila with their 10 year limited warranty and 100 night sleep trial, I think it’s definitely worth a try to see if it could offer the properties you’re looking for. This is especially true for those with sleep partners, those who carry a lot of weight and stomach sleepers.

If you prefer your mattress plush, you may want to look for a different brand as the medium firm option from Voila was pretty firm. However, they do work with you if your initial firmness doesn’t meet your needs. While I didn’t have trouble sleeping hot, this mattress did take a little longer than average to cool down, so those whose hot sleeping is a significant issue may want to seek out a product designed with thermal properties as their main priority. However, when it comes to support, I was very impressed. I found it notable how aligned my spine feels when I lay down on it. You’re also able to move around with ease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Foundation Needed?

You don’t have to use a foundation with your Voila mattress. You put it on the floor at your own risk, however. Contact with organic surfaces on the ground cuts airflow and can create a breeding ground for mildew. It’s usually worth the investment in a foundation. Check out the eLuxury Supply bed frame. I loved the way it looks, and the quality is very high.

Is a Mattress Pad or Protector Needed?

I’d suggest you purchase a quality mattress protector to increase the durability of your mattress. If kids or pets will be using the mattress, it’s definitely worth the added investment. If you want to risk it, though, you can use the mattress without a protector pad.
