There’s memory foam, and then there’s TEMPUR material, which is a proprietary blend of materials to add more bounce-back to your TEMPUR-Flex Supreme mattress. The Flex Supreme is a hybrid mattress that’s TEMPUR-Pedic’s answer to support, bounce, and comfort. It was created in 2015 to combine the best of each feature of its materials, such as support and resilience from a dense layer of pocketed coils; a breathable base to disperse heat that would be trapped in a basic memory foam mattress; a comfort level for that cushy feel; and a cooling layer on the top so you sleep cooler at night.
The EasyRefresh zip off cover is removable and washable, a convenient feature you can’t find in all mattresses. Below that is TEMPUR’s SmartClimate system to help keep your sleep cool. Although this mattress is rated as a medium comfort level, it leans a little closer to the soft side, so it’s a great mattress if you’re a side sleeper.
You can get this in eight different sizes: twin, twin long, double (full), queen, king, split king, CA king, and split CA king. It can be used with any TEMPUR-Pedic foundation base, including the UP and ERGO designs, but you aren’t required to for warranty purposes. To keep your warranty valid, your mattress must rest on a solid foundation, so slats are out. The fabrics on the mattress have been treated to be allergen-resistant, so you shouldn’t have to worry about dust mites.
Features & Benefits
TEMPUR-Pedic is the top brand name in memory foam – it was the first to do it, and it wants to remain the king of mattresses. Back in the ’90s, the company introduced its patented foam mattress that was once only used by NASA. The benefit of sleeping on viscoelastic polyurethane foam that TEMPUR-Pedic uses is that it hugs your body in a way that coils and padding cannot. It slowly responds when you move on it, which means it cradles your body, giving your pressure point relief.
Additionally, this type of foam offers a motion-isolating benefit. So, if you turn to another position in the middle of the night, your partner is unlikely to notice. This isn’t just another foam mattress, though. TEMPUR-Pedic added a layer of coils that work with the memory foam to give it a faster response – that means when you move at night, it’ll move with you, reducing that feeling of sinking into a hole in your bed.
Add to that the SmartClimate System layers, and you get a cooler sleep, too. The top of the cover pulls heat from your body as you sleep and disperses it. This is different from the most common memory foam mattresses that typically trap heat, which then heats you up, making for a sweaty and uncomfortable night of sleep.
Technically, the TEMPUR-Pedic Flex Supreme series offers six layers in its mattress construction. Each layer is meant to provide comfort, support, bounce, or isolation of movement. Starting at the top is that EasyRefresh cover. It’s easy to zip on and off, and it’s washable, which means you can easily refresh the outer layer of your mattress with a quick wash and dry.
There’s the SmartClimate layer that I’ve already gone over, which gives you that cooler sleep than standard memory foam mattresses. And then there’s the all-important comfort layer, which is made of supremely soft TEMPUR-ES material – this is what gives you that plush feel. Below is a thinner layer of TEMPUR-Response foam, which offers a springy feel, or that bounce you want to keep you from feeling as though you’re sinking down to the bottom of your bed. Then there are the coils, and the supportive base layer, which are both designed to work with the responsive layer to give support and help push heat away from the mattress and your body.
Foam Density Explained
It should be noted that TEMPUR-Pedic is not the most transparent when it comes to certain information, which is understandable. The company wants to maintain its proprietary specifications, such as foam densities. You won’t find any hard evidence of what the density is for each layer of foam, but generally, it’s been estimated to be between 2.5 and 7 pounds.
The reason density is important is because it lends to your comfort, support, and the durability, or life, of your mattress. The higher density foam offers much more support and durability, which means you won’t get that divot experience that happens with low-density foams. Plus, the life of your mattress is much longer.
TEMPUR-Pedic’s pricing has a lot to do with the foam, its many years of testing and development, and quality. However, the price of a TEMPUR-Pedic mattress has reduced quite a bit, thanks to so much competition. And you can find comparable mattress for one-third or less the cost of most TEMPUR-Pedic’s mattresses.

When TEMPUR-Pedic first introduced its mattresses to the public, it was the only choice other than traditional innerspring coil mattresses. It was an innovative approach to sleep, and it revolutionized the industry. The company promised a sleep-like-the-dead kind of rest, thanks to the cradling effect of its foam.
However, plus-sized people were complaining about the indentations that resulted over time, while lightweight sleepers felt the beds were too firm. As with any mattress company these days, TEMPUR-Pedic revised and revisited its beds and created different levels of firmness and comfort to suit each body and sleeper type. It may be difficult to find a TEMPUR-Pedic Flex Supreme review because it’s so new still, but it seems to be a popular happy-medium for average-sized sleepers.
One of the biggest issues is that it takes a while to “break it in.” The company suggests that you give it a couple of weeks before you really make up your mind because the materials need time to fully “open” and adjust to your body.
Despite the SmartClimate System layer, and the heat-dispersing base layer, this TEMPUR-Pedic Flex Supreme mattress may still sleep warmer than you would expect, especially if you’ve never slept on a memory foam bed before. Even the fibers of the top layer of this mattress are meant to wick away heat and moisture, but if you’re still sleeping too hot, this may not be the mattress for you.
With that said, most memory foam mattresses sleep hot, so it’s a common issue among all memory foam beds, and not unique to TEMPUR-Pedic.
Maintenance, Care, and Warranty
This Flex Supreme mattress may be one of the easiest beds to maintain. All TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses are designed in such a way that it doesn’t require any flipping or rotating to maintain them. In fact, the company points out that it’s never meant to be flipped, otherwise you’ll be sleeping on the wrong side. With a removable cover, you can easily wash, dry, and zip it right back on, which is uncommon among memory foam mattresses.
You do need to take some precautions with your mattress, though. Extreme temperatures, such as what may come from an electric blanket or heating pad, could change the efficacy of your mattress – the memory foam may respond to the artificial heat, rather than the heat of your body. So, you should avoid using them.
All TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses come with a 10-year full replacement limited warranty. That means as long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s requirements to keep your warranty valid, you can have your mattress replaced if there’s a defect in your mattress. For example, if you use a solid foundation for your mattress, but it begins to sag in the center, the company may replace it at no cost to you.
Sample It Yourself
If you’re not comfortable buying a mattress online, you could find a mattress store in your town that carries TEMPUR-Pedic mattresses, or you could ask the company for a free sample. All you have to do is sign up for its TEMPUR-ME membership, which is free and only requires an email address. Then fill out the form and the company will ship you a sample of the mattress so you can feel it for yourself. You’ll also get a welcome offer and promotional codes, so if you decide to buy the mattress, you can get a discount.
More than 100 reviews of the Flex Supreme line of mattresses on TEMPUR-Pedic’s website, but it’s still a relatively new bed, so that could explain the scarcity of reviews. Overall, it’s a highly-rated mattress, as it’s a medium to medium-soft mattress. It’s not suitable for exceptionally lightweight or heavier users, which may explain the handful of unsatisfied customers.
This isn’t a typical memory foam mattress because of the hybrid of materials and layers of support and comfort, though, so it’s a happy-medium for most sleepers.

When you want a memory foam mattress that doesn’t have that sinking-in feeling that it’s known for, then the TEMPUR-Pedic Flex Supreme could be the right mattress for you. It has a faster response time, so it follows you when you readjust your position, thanks to the different layers of materials.
It has a softer feel than traditional memory foam mattresses, but it supports your body better than an innerspring coil mattress, so your pressure points should get the relief they need. Although it offers several layers meant to release heat that’s often trapped in foam mattresses, there are still complaints about it sleeping warmer than users want.
