Sumo Lounge Omni Bean Bag

Most of the time when it comes to bean bag chairs, a chair is just a chair. There’s no switching positions or using it as a bed, chair, lounger…or is there? When I say this, I mean that I have come across a bean bag that not only can be used as a surface to lay on, but it can also be used as all of the above. The Sumo Lounge Omni is a whole new breed of bean bags, and honestly, it’s not really even a “bean bag”. It’s more like a convertible bed with fluffy balls inside of it.

Unboxing

I’m going to be straightforward here-there isn’t much to unbox! It came in a plain box wrapped in some plastic. Once the plastic is removed, it is ready to use after a little bit of fluffing. I didn’t see that it needed time to expand since it didn’t come with instructions, so I just fluffed it a little and used it as it was.

Materials Used

The Sumo Omni is made from rip-proof nylon and is made to withstand normal wear and tear from sitting and lounging. The inside of the Sumo is made from 3.5 cubic feet high-density EPS polystyrene beads. These are kind of like the old school beads used in the original bean bags. The inside of the bag is easily accessible for an adult but difficult to find for a child. The whole edge is pinched, so a child wouldn’t notice that there is a slot to access the beads. This is concealed by velcro and then a zipper to expose the beads for refilling. When fully decompressed, it measures 4×5 feet.

Features & Benefits

As with every product, there are features and benefits. With the Sumo, there are definitely a lot of great features and a few benefits that can really help your personal health.

Setup

When the sumo came out of the USPS truck, I was quite surprised that it could be carried with one finger across my very snowy lawn. I brought it into the house and opened the box. The whole package weighed maybe 10 or 15 pounds at most. When I opened it, I was greeted by a bright red vacuum packed Sumo Lounge. Now, it was time for setup.

This is going to be fairly short and sweet- there’s absolutely no setup required. The only thing you need to do is take it out of the box and fluff it up a few times. You can then position it any way you want for optimal comfort.

Ease of Use

The Sumo Lounge is fairly easy to use. It can be used in multiple positions such as sitting, lounging, laying, etc. Putting the lounger into these positions is as easy as laying it down or standing it up. There’s a picture on their website that shows the positions that it can be used in, so I used my daughter and son to replicate these positions:

Comfort

In terms of comfort, I can honestly say that I wasn’t a huge fan of the material it’s made from. It made a lot of noise, and it was just stiff feeling. The kids didn’t mind it, but I just didn’t like it. The positions that I could sit in, however, were comforting. The hammock-style position gave me a little bit of a cushion behind my head, which helped keep my neck in one position. It also did not hurt my back when I sat on it in the chair position. There was plenty of support behind my back.

One of the major features that this company boasts is that their product can ease pain associated with the head, neck, and back because it offers seating that improves posture. Improved posture can help with headaches, back pain, and neck pain. I can honestly say that I experienced this first-hand.

Washability

The Omni is the only product that cannot be washed. However, it is very stain resistant and can be washed with soapy water. Almost anything will come off of it with this method.

Warranty

There is a lifetime warranty on the seams and stitches. If anything happens due to normal wear and tear, they will replace your Omni for you free of charge.

Sumo Lounge Omni Reviews

I know that you can’t just take my word for the product, so how about what others had to say? Other users boast about its ability to transform to almost any kind of sitting/sleeping surface imaginable. It’s very easy to manipulate, and other users have mentioned this as well. They also have stated that it’s very durable, portable, and comfortable. However, a few users have stated that they, as well as I, didn’t like the feel of the material.

There were also a few stray complaints of poor stitching, which Sumo took care of promptly. There are actually more complaints about poor customer service than any other aspect of the chair. I tried to reach out to them as well to check out the validity of those claims, and I found that it was a hit or miss. Certain times of the day were better than others.

Conclusion

After a week of use, the Sumo Lounge Omni is still in all of its glory. It has not lost any of the comforts in terms of the inside beads. It can still be used in all the ways it is meant to, and it’s still one of my kids’ favorite places to lounge. It’s nice to lay on while watching television in the living room with my kids. This is definitely the lightest weighing bean bag chair that I have tested thus far, which is a nice change. It’s easy to move around and even easier to change positions on.
