Soft Heat Electric Heated Mattress Pad

Our Rating: (8.5 / Out Of 10)

Do you like the idea of staying warm while you sleep? I think we all do, but it’s hard to find a warm sleeping surface that is both comfortable and reliable. What if I told you that such a product existed and it was as soft as one of those fluffy throw blankets? The Soft Heat Micro-Plush Top Electric Heated Pad is the product you’ve been looking for if you like the feeling of fluff. I tested this product out personally and it was probably one of the softest yet, thanks to the plush surface. Take a look at everything it has to offer you.

Breakdown Of The Soft Heat Heated Mattress Pad

The Soft Heat Heated Mattress Pad is a low voltage unit made from micro-velour fabric. The patented Safe & Warm technology claims to be safer than any other pads on the market. The low voltage will also help save you money on your electric bill. The plush micro-velour fabric gives you a comfortable sleeping surface, almost as if you were sleeping on a fluffy throw blanket. It helps to warm and rejuvenate your bed as well as your body.

This pad comes equipped with two controllers so that you and your partner can enjoy your own level of warmth. Please be advised, this only applies to Queen size and bigger, twin and fulls only come with one. These controls are lighted so to be easily seen during the night and automatically shut off after 10 hours of use for your own personal convenience, safety, and money savings.

It sound like a whole lot of technology and comfort that could cost you a fortune, but don’t be worrisome, this heated mattress pad gives you a luxurious sleeping surface at an affordable price. No more paying buku bucks for a pad with bulky wires that are uncomfortable to sleep on. This pad has ultra thin wires and no irritating hot or cold spots. This mattress pad is pretty much made for anyone except for those who may have poor circulation, those with certain disabilities, infants and children, and those who may not know how to operate the unit.

Features & Benefits

So, when I first got this product, the one thing that I noticed was the packaging. Unlike the other pads that I had gotten, this one wasn’t in a zippered package, it was in just a plain plastic bag that could have been easily ripped. I wasn’t impressed with this. Once I took it out of the package, that’s when I started noticing more of the features, such as the ultra-soft micro-velour fabric. It was so soft to the touch, which is part of the way it rejuvenates your bed and body.

The dual controllers were very similar to another mattress pad that I had tested. It is part of the non-hazardous low voltage technology that keeps the whole product much safer than others on the market. They automatically shut off after 10-hours, which is great for those who may forget to shut things off, such as a coffee pot or candle warmer. They also have a pre-heat setting so that you can “set it and forget it”. It’ll be nice and toasty for you by the time you need to get into bed.

The Soft Heat Mattress Pad is also an ideal product for those who need to soothe their muscles and reduce stress. Studies have shown that when you apply heat and warmth to sore muscles, pains and aches, it helps to reduce and alleviate the discomfort. So if you have a sore body at the end of the day, all you need to do is warm this bad boy up and lay on it. It won’t feel hot to the touch, rather, with the three inch spaced thin wires, it will provide you with a steady heat all over without hot or cold spots.

Construction

This heated mattress pad is constructed of a micro-plush velour and polyester blend of materials. The plush velour top is extremely soft and I said earlier, it almost feels like one of those plush throw blankets. It’s not overly thick, so it won’t really make you retain heat more than you would want to. It’s also a fitted sheet style, so it is nice and snug on the bed to ensure no movement.

Within the pad is the patented Safe & Warm low voltage technology. This includes a small power supply box that allows the voltage to be changed from 120 AC home current into a non-hazardous, low voltage DC current, similar to a battery. This is what provides you with the warmth, safety, and protection even if the mattress pad becomes wet. It only operated in less than 25 volts, the same amount of current it takes to light up a lightbulb.

Also inside of the pad are thin, flat wires that are evenly spaced three inches apart. This evenly distributes the heat from head to toe without cold or hot spots. Each side is zoned for each controller so that you and your partner can set your own level of warmth.

Setup Quick Tip:

You never want to place the wires in between the box spring and the mattress. You’re going to want to run them down the side of your bed and under it. You can choose to place the plugs at the foot or the head of your bed and you can plug them into any standard power supply on each side of the bed.

Heating Features

The Soft Heat pad features dual controllers for all Queen and King sizes. These controllers come with 10 personalized heat settings, including pre-heat, low, and high. It’s suggested that you set it at the high setting to start off and then lower it to your desired level of comfort. These dials are easy to grasp and turn, which is great for those who may suffer from arthritis or other medical conditions that may make your hands not functionable for grasping.

Each of the numbers and settings on these dials are lit up, making it very easy to see in the dark. If you’re one that doesn’t like bright lights while you sleep like me, there’s a convenient auto-dimming feature, which I really like. There is also an on and off button that allows you to turn it off with just one easy click.

Comfort

Sure, the heated mattress pad may make you warm and toasty, but is it overly comfortable? The answer to this is simply “yes”. I am one of those people that can feel the slightest imperfection in my sheets or on my clothing, so when I say that I can’t feel these wires and that I was able to sleep comfortably on this, you should definitely take my word for it.

The soft velour top mixed with the flat, ultra thin wires, makes for one soothing sleeping surface. I thought that the fluffiness of the surface was going to add to the heat and make me sweat, but it didn’t at all. I noticed that there were some complaints about it bunching up and coming loose, but I did not have this issue. Mine stayed nice and tight the entire time. Overall, it’s extremely comfortable to sleep on, especially if you like fluffy things.

Protection

The Soft Heat technology inside of this mattress pad keeps you and your family safe in the event that it gets wet. If something were to spill on it, it’s not going to short circuit and electrocute you. If you’re looking for something more to protect your new mattress, or even an older one, from leaks and spills, this isn’t going to solve that problem. It’s not meant to protect your mattress from that, but it will preserve the life of it as long as it’s taken care of properly.

Maintenance, Care and Warranty

In order to get the most out of your mattress pad, I highly suggest following the rules for maintenance and care.

Maintenance

While this product is on your bed, you should always remember to shut the unit off while it is not in use. You can do this by turning it off on the controller or simply unplugging it from the wall. The more you don’t use it when you don’t have to, the longer the life of it will be. You should also never iron your product as this could cause damage to the wires and the textiles.

There are a few things that you should also remember when using this product:

  • Keep animals with sharp claws away from the pad to avoid damage to the heating element.
  • Never use pins in or around the pad
  • Never fold, ball up, or bundle it when in use.
  • Don’t use it with any other warming product
  • Keep the controls away from drafty areas that can become damp
  • Don’t use on an airbed or pull-out sofa

Care

Oops, you spilled something on your heating pad! What do you do now? Not to worry, you can wash it! When you wash your product, you should never use dry cleaning fluid on it and you should never iron it. You can wash it, without the cords attached, in warm water and with a small amount of detergent. Let it sit for 5 minutes and agitate on a delicate cycle for two minutes then spin on normal speed. Rinse it with cool water for one minute and spin dry. You can then toss it in a dryer on low heat and tumble until it’s dry. If you prefer, you can wash it all by hand following the instructions given in your manual.

Warranty

With your Soft Heat Mattress Pad, you are granted a five-year limited warranty. If there is an issue with your product or component, you may request a replacement. In order to obtain warranty performance, you must have the proof of purchase. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear of parts or damage from improper use, disassembly, repair or alteration by somebody who isn’t authorized, acts of God and other issues that can be found in the warranty.

How Easy Are Returns

If you need to return a product to the manufacturer, you can simply call their customer service department or write them an email. If they allow you to return it they will give you an authorization number. If you purchase through a third party seller, you usually have 30-days to initiate a return if allowed. The level of easy depends on the issue you are having with the product.

Conclusion

Overall, this heated mattress has quite a bit going for it. It is definitely really soft, the controls are easy to use, I could see the numbers in the dark, and the warmth was evenly distributed. I will say, however, that there were an alarming number of complaints about melted wires and connectors. I did see a lot of pictures of blackened connectors and prongs, making me wonder why so many pads are doing this. Other than that, everything else seems okay to me. For the price, I think that a product could last a little longer that what some reviewers are claiming and I think that more could be done to ensure wires aren’t melting. If you aren’t concerned about those details and you are still looking for a soft and warm product, the Soft Heat Mattress Pad is the way to go.
