Depending on the age of the person who would be using it, you may find the need for water protection and the peace of mind this offers, regardless of accidents – from either the body or other liquids. With this in mind, we’ve got a hold of the Sleep Tite waterproof mattress protector to see what the fuss is about. We’ve used it, slept on it and tested the effectiveness of it’s waterproof protection to find out whether this is a decent product or more of a damp squib. Read on for an in-depth review.

Breakdown Of The Sleep Tite Waterproof Mattress Protector

The Sleep Tite mattress protector is just that. This product, smart in packaging and neat in design, is made to keep the mattress you sleep on clean, dry, and hygienic and at the standard you bought it at, for longer. Sleep Tite, the brand, are a company that specialize in the protection of your bedding and to ensure it stays clean no matter who uses it. When compared to other mattress protectors in its category, it holds up well.

The Sleep Tite product is a great cover for virtually anyone seeking comfort and protection. Although I tested the Queen size product, it comes in a multitude of other sizes, so no matter how big your bed, or who you’re buying it for, you should be able to find the size you need.

Features & Benefits

The best way to review a product well is to try it out first hand, and what I deem as positives or acceptable may not be the case for others. I took the liberty of testing it for a few nights as well as challenging the 100% waterproof feature. Let’s break it down.

Protection

The first and core use for this cover is protection. Protection against wet “accidents” and dirt, but protection against nasty allergens, too. So, this is great for those who suffer from sensitivities. But the waterproof feature is where this cover really shines.

I put this to the test by pouring liquid onto the cover – which was spread across the bed with one of my towels underneath – the sheet seemed to quickly and really effectively absorb the liquid within itself without spilling out onto the towel (or in the buyer’s case, their mattress) and ruining the bed.

I can’t lie, I was very surprised. Especially considering the sheet actively absorbed the water that was poured over it. The material is fairly thin and I very much expected the cover to at least hold the water on the surface, doing its job but meaning the person sleeping would wake up in a puddle themselves. But, when the sheet absorbed the water, yes, a damp mark was left, but my towel was bone dry. Definitely an excellent level of protection.

Spill Test

So I took the liberty of really challenging the 100% waterproof feature of this product. And like I mentioned before, I didn’t have high hopes upon opening it because it’s fairly thin.

I placed a plastic bag and a towel underneath and then gently poured 8 ounces of liquid in the center. After leaving it there for about 8 hours, I came back to check on it periodically throughout. Once at 10 minutes, 2 hours, 4, 6, and then 8 hours. The results were impressive.

While the liquid has absorbed almost entirely, it still didn’t leak. So, this tells me that if a child had an accident in the middle of the night, the moisture would be carried away from their sleeping bodies as best as it can, and their mattress would be saved, as well.

Construction

This cover is easy to use. Providing you get the right size for your bed, it’s just the classic design of elasticated corners ready to fit around your mattress snugly and easily.

It has a cotton material surface and a polyurethane backing underneath, which gives it that moisture proof barrier.

The stitching wasn’t as great as I’d hope, but it held up, even during washing. The sides are wide and stretchy, easily covering my thick 18” mattress.

Comfort

This was another excellent, surprising feature of the product. The level of comfort was something I would come to expect from a normal bed sheet and not what I would expect from a waterproof, bacteria-proof specialist bedsheet. The feel of the cover on my skin was lovely and soft, making for an easy, comfortable sleep.

The highest compliment I can pay this product is that there is no noticeable difference between what I would usually use to cover my bed, which means upon buying this, you don’t strictly need to use an additional cover to counteract any rough, uncomfortable feeling against your skin through the night.

Heat Retention

This is a tough feature to judge. When the sheet is wet, it is naturally cooler, however, because it is a great, comfy material and not a standard, cold, hard waterproof lining, you will find it very easy to get comfortable and warm regardless of it’s material. Heat retention isn’t something that you need to worry about when you buy this product.

It made no difference to the way I slept. I was warm most of the night, but not too warm (which I hate). To be honest, I think it’s just too thin to really hold in any significant heat.

Maintenance, Protection, Care and Warranty

Maintenance and care are very much up to you in regards to how clean and tidy you want the cover to be. As it is absorbing water, if there is an instance in which it does just that, my advice would be to wash it right away and avoid permanent staining, regardless of what the liquid is.

For washing, I just followed the instructions and washed in cold water, no bleach, on a gentle cycle and tumbled dry on low heat. It did seem to lose some of it’s “texture” after washing, but the thickness and decent quality was still there.

In terms of the warranty, this product has a 15-year full warranty, which is of course pretty awesome when talking about sleep products. You don’t often see a lengthy warranty like that. With any luck, you won’t even need to use it, but if you do, it’s there.

Before buying the product, I would take a look through the warranty and see what it covers exactly. Then, take a picture of the product as you have bought it. Then, this could help save from some of the smaller issues other users have found with calling in the use of their warranty.

How Easy Are Returns

The returns policy of the product and where I got it from was the standard returns policy of 30-day money back. If there is a defect with the product upon receiving, be sure to return it immediately through the standard third party returns policy.

Bonuses

For me, one of the great bonuses about this product is the fact that it is kind to allergies and skin issues such as eczema and breathing problems, like asthma. As this product keeps mites and even dust away from your mattress, you will find a serious decrease in wear, tear and dirt damage to your mattress for longer than usual. This will help immensely if you suffer from eczema.

Protection

High praises for its ability to protect mattresses. A couple of random reviews stated that it wasn’t water proof at all, and I honestly don’t know what to say to that. Hundreds say otherwise, including myself as you can see from the pictures.

Durability

Like myself, a few users found the durability a little disappointing. It holds up, but the stitching isn’t done as well as it should be. I don’t see it lasting for years to come, but for the price, it would make a great cover for kids or a guest room.

Odor

There was no odor when I opened the product, and I couldn’t find anything online to say otherwise.

Customer Support

I was disappointed with what I found here. A lot of users claim that customer support is poor, and claiming a warranty is frustrating. I would recommend contacting the third party seller first, if you can.
