Our Mira Bed

For the most part, Canadians enjoy a wide offer when it comes to mattresses since all the best brands on the American market ship their models to their neighbors in the north as well. However, that doesn’t mean that Canada doesn’t have a few aces up its sleeve when it comes to a good and affordable mattress, and the Mira bed is an example of just that: a simple, yet sturdy memory foam mattress that’s available at a really good price. But aside from being cost-friendly, what other things can this mattress do?

About Mira

There are plenty of things to be said about Mira, like the fact that it’s a budget brand developed by Endy, one of Northern America’s most beloved mattresses. But probably the most important thing about this brand is how it envisions the affordability of a foam mattress.

The company believes that in order to get a good night’s sleep, you don’t really need layers upon layers of foam, and because they don’t include materials they believe to be unnecessary for sleep quality, they can afford to sell this mattress at a really good price. They also don’t believe in spending too much money on advertising, which is another thing that allows Mira to sell its mattress at a really convenient price.

Pros:

  • Affordable price.
  • Great motion isolation.
  • Generous trial period.

Cons:

  • Too firm for plenty of sleepers.
  • No mention of foam ILD.
  • Edge support could be better.

Shipping, Unboxing, and Off-gassing

The Mira mattress is a bed-in-a-box that is delivered compressed to your doorstep. It unfolds pretty much like every other mattress of its kind, and you will have to give it some hours so that it can return to its original shape. Shipping is free for the most part of Canada, but there are a few remote locations that will be charged with some additional shipping fees (such as the Territories). It usually takes between three and five business days for you to receive your Mira Bed.

There are usually no delays in receiving your Mira mattress, and even if there have been some observations related to boxes arriving damages, the mattress is well protected by the additional layers of plastic wrapping, so the bed should be fine even if the box has been mishandled. The three layers of plastic that cover the mattress should be removed with a pair of scissors, but with great care as to not puncture the mattress in the process.

While there might be a little bit of off-gassing present when you first unbox the mattress, the smell does fade away in about 24 hours of leaving the bed in a well-ventilated room.

Initial Impressions

The Mira mattress is surprising in a lot of way, and our initial impressions were quite different when compared to what we expected. Even knowing that the firmness rating of this bed is a solid 7, it still felt that the mattress was way too firm and lacked some of the conforming that we all expect to get from a foam bed. Don’t get me wrong, the Mira bed isn’t terrible, it just feels different compared to other foam mattresses we’ve tested so far.

When you apply hand pressure on the surface of the mattress, you will notice that your hand doesn’t sink in very deep. Further pressure might compress the mattress more, but the support layer does a good job of stopping the comfort layer in its tracks.

Since the bed doesn’t really compress that easily under pressure, it is pretty clear that the bed serves average and heavyweight individuals and doesn’t offer a lot of contouring for sleepers that weigh under 130 pounds. Being really good at motion isolation, the mattress hardly offers any bounce, which makes it a solid choice for couples who share a bed.

Construction

The Mira mattress is a pretty straightforward bed that’s made from two layers of foam that work together to provide the sleeper with the comfort they need. The first layer measures 1.5 inches in thickness and features a gel infusion in order to prevent the memory foam construction from retaining enormous amounts of heat, as this type of material is known to do that.

The second and last layer of the bed is an 8.5-inch block of polyfoam. As some of you might already know, the support layer of a mattress gives the bed shape but also helps stop the deep sinking of the comfort layer in its tracks, making sure that your body is supporting at just the right level.

The cover of the mattress is white and has a specific texture. It’s made entirely out of polyester, which makes it highly stretchable. It also comes with a series of uniquely-looking squares stitches to the cover, which makes the design of the Mira bed stand out when compared to other mattresses. The cover can be unzipped and washed in the washing machine.

Features and Benefits

The first thing that makes the Mira bed stand out from the competition is its incredibly low price. However, we need to consider the fact that foam mattresses aren’t usually designed to be expensive, but the fact that this company doesn’t spend money on advertising does help reduce the price and offer the bed at a really advantageous cost.

Another benefit of buying this particular bed is its motion isolation capacity. As tests have revealed applying pressure on a side of the mattress doesn’t create any ripple effect, making the bed a really good choice for couples.

Available Sizes

Like every other standard mattress, the Mira bed is available in all the six standard sizes that we’re used to seeing by now. That being said, you can purchase this mattress in a size Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, King, and Cal King.

Heat Transfer

Normally, foam mattresses have a reputation for retaining heat up to a point where the sleeper starts to feel thermal discomfort. Thanks to the gel infusion in the comfort layer of the bed, the Mira mattress doesn’t retain heat as other foam mattresses do, but its performance at this chapter could still be better.

Durability

Talking about the durability of the Mira mattress is particularly difficult because of two main reasons. First of all, we’re talking about a bed that was launched just back in 2019, so there is not enough data that could tell us what to expect in terms of longevity.

Protection, Sleep Trial & Warranty

Even if the Mira bed has a removable and washable cover, having a mattress protector on top of the bed is still advised. The mattress can be spot cleaned if you notice any small stains. When you do wash the cover, make sure you do it separately and use a washing cycle with colder water. Don’t iron and don’t bleach the cover.

The Mira mattress is advertised as having the most generous trial period in all of Canada, which is 130 nights. During this time, you can sleep on the bed every night to see if the foam bed does a good job of conforming to your body and giving you the comfort and support you need. If you choose to return the mattress, you can email the company within these 130 days and arrange for them to pick up the bed. You will be eligible to receive a full refund via the original payment method. And you are not required to give the bed a break-in period.

The mattress is also covered by a 10-year warranty period. During this period, you can contact the company for any manufacturing defect that’s covered by the warranty. You may also receive a one-time replacement mattress or perhaps the defects can be repaired, but that’s for the manufacturer to decide. You won’t have to pay any kind of shipment fees if the warranty covers your particular problem.

Cost

The Mira mattress is one of the most affordable beds that you’ll ever get your hands on. Prices start at $549 CAD for a Twin-sized bed and go all the way up to $799 CAD for the Cal King model.

Reviews and Feedback

We’ve seen plenty of situations where people buy an inexpensive product and expect a higher quality compared to what they’re actually getting. With the Mira mattress, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as people are greatly impressed with the quality of the materials and how well the mattress performs.

The removable cover is one of the main things that make a good impression amongst sleepers who use the Mira bed. Despite it being a really firm foam mattress, people don’t seem to mind with that particular aspect, and some people even claimed they wish the mattress was ever firmer. Overall, people are really happy with the performance of the Mira bed, and some even stated they would buy it a second time.

Who We Recommend the Mira Bed For

It’s true that the Mira bed isn’t exactly a memory foam mattress to please a wide variety of sleepers, but there are still plenty of people that would benefit from this bed:

  • Due to its superior rankings in motion isolation, the Mira mattress is a great option for couples who share a bed, especially in a pair where one tends to fuss a lot at night and the other is a light sleeper.
  • Thanks to its really convenient price, the Mira mattress is also a great purchase for value seekers that are looking to save some money when buying a new bed.
  • Even if the mattress is firmer and offers less contouring that what you’d expect to get from an all-foam bed, it is still a viable option for heavyweight side and back sleepers, but also for average-weight back sleepers.

Our Final Verdict

It is pretty clear by now that the Mira mattress is a suitable option for people who want a firm bed at a low cost. With features like good motion isolation and decent edge support, this mattress is a good choice for couples who share a bed, but it’s also true that the firm rating of this mattress limits the type of sleepers that could actually enjoy it.

If you weight more than 200 pounds and would like a mattress that supports you, the Mira bed is an excellent budget choice. It can also make an excellent buy as a mattress for the guest bedroom, as people don’t really need to make such a large bed investment in this case.
