Finding the right sleep product is a quest that requires research and understanding of your own personal needs and preferences. While you have a lot of options when it comes to important aspects like firmness, bounce, and breathability, all mattresses lay flat. When you have the Nest basic adjustable base, you open up brand new possibilities that can make sleeping and relaxing in bed a whole new experience.

When you’re enabled to make adjustments to the elevation of both the head and foot of your bed, you can counteract irritating problems like snoring, sleep apnea, and acid reflux. You can also eliminate the need to stack pillows in a neck-wrenching manner to watch television. Nest provided me with their basic adjustable base, and I found it to be an excellent product for back sleepers, those who are strictly interested in basic functions, or those on a budget who don’t want to pay for extra features like head and foot massage.

Features & Benefits

No Assembly Necessary with White Glove Delivery

We definitely enjoy the savings involved when it comes to ordering sleep products online. However, this sometimes means you have to do some of the heavy lifting on your own. When you order the Nest Basic Adjustable Base, however, you can expect the convenience of white glove delivery. You’ll receive a phone call to set up a time you’ll be home, and a team of two professionals will arrive in a boxed truck.

My team gave me a call around 30 minutes before they showed up. Yours can help you determine the most strategic place to set up the product for maximum enjoyment and functionality. If you anticipate needing to move the base in the future, keep reading to see how to assemble and disassemble. But, for now, let’s jump into the features!

A Look at the Remote

I like how the remote is small and easily fits in your hand. It’s also very user-friendly. If you don’t like tons of features that make a remote confusing to use, I think you’ll be a big fan. It’s pretty self-explanatory. You move the head and foot up and down on the respective top right and left sides. Between them, we see two circular buttons. On the top is the Flat button, and this returns the mattress to a flat position.

Beneath this, we find an icon with the letter G, and this stands for Zero Gravity. This is a preset position that lifts your legs slightly above the chest to enable blood to easily circulate back to the heart. It can also reduce both stress and fatigue.

Do you or your sleep partner snore? If so, you’ll find an anti-snore feature beneath the zero gravity button. This preset raises the head slightly for improved breathing. Finally, we see two final circular buttons numbered one and two. These allow for you to preset two personalized positions. When you find a spot you definitely plan to revisit, just press and hold the memory button for more than five seconds.

You’ll see the LED light flash three times, and this indicates your position is stored. When you want to revisit the position, just push the associated preset number on your remote. The two settings make it fair for sleep partners as they can each select their favorite. Each base is already paired with the remote it comes with.

Positions That Can Help Alleviate Real Problems

Now that you have a better idea what this product does, I’m gonna show you how you can use it based on various needs.

  • To reduce back pressure while watching television, I found comfort in raising the head and bringing the feet up just slightly, and this is my number one preset. It definitely beats neck strain caused by trying to achieve elevation with stacks of pillows.
  • To get to sleep and stay that way, I found the zero gravity position to be excellent.
If you sleep primarily on your side, you may find the flat position to be more accommodating for proper contour and support through the night.
  • After a long day, those with back pain can find relief by slightly elevating the feet and keeping the head flat.
  • For all you acid reflux sufferers out there who constitute 20% of the population in the United States, raise the head partially to allow gravity to work its magic by preventing stomach contents from leaking into the esophagus.
  • The zero-gravity preset may help depending on the severity, but you can preset your own position that works best for you.

Base Support

As I used my Nest basic adjustable base, I found that I was able to maintain excellent alignment. As with other products I’ve used, I really enjoyed the zero gravity feature and found it particularly accommodating at the end of a long day on my feet. The retainer bar was able to support a 12-inch-thick mattress in even the most elevated position.

Disassembly and Reassembly

If you take this product apart, you may have very well lost your product information packet by that point. Make sure you take an inventory of what’s included:

  • Wireless remote
  • 3 triple A batteries
  • Mattress retainer bar
  • 4 base legs
  • Retainer bar bolts
  • 2 nine volt batteries

To begin disassembly, you’ll need to flip the product over. Before you do, make sure you unplug the base and remove the mattress, bedding, and the retainer bars. It’s also a good idea to have two people on board. You don’t want to lean the foundation against the installed legs. Once you’ve flipped the base, the legs simply unscrew.

When you’re ready to set the product back up, screw the legs back on. Then, just flip it back over and replace the retainer bars. It only takes around seven to 10 minutes.

Bluetooth Option

Bluetooth has been around since the late 90’s. Since that time, it’s been incorporated in new and exciting ways, and Nest offers Bluetooth technology if you want to use it. Their Deluxe Base includes the Bluetooth Accessory Module that allows you to control your base with your mobile device through their free app.

If you have iPhone 4S or five series, iPad 3 or later, or iPod Touch 5th generation, you can take advantage of cool features like position control, massage functions, nightlight feature, and alarm clock all from your mobile device. This could be great to have available not only for everyday convenience but also in those inevitable instances when you just can’t find the remote control.

Possible Setbacks

No sleep product is a one-size-fits-all solution. As you shop, eliminating products irrelevant to your needs is the most time-consuming task. The Nest basic adjustable base may not be right for you if:

  • You want a product that offers head and foot massage
  • You enjoy USB ports to use for charging your mobile devices while you sleep
  • You want a product that transitions rapidly

Conclusion

There are many other awesome features available on adjustable beds. If you’re interested in more advanced features like head and foot massage and Bluetooth compatibility so you can use your phone as a remote, Nest offers the Deluxe Adjustable Base for about a $300 difference. However, if you’re primarily concerned with the ability to move your mattress up and down at the head and foot, the basic version should do the trick and keep you on track budget-wise.

This product comes with a 20-year limited warranty and an 850-pound lift capacity. They do offer financing starting at $120 per month through Affirm for those who qualify. If you’re ready to enjoy your mattress on a multi-dimensional level, I think this product does a good job at offering the basics of an adjustable base at a great value. I think it’s best if:

  • You like to sleep on your back.
  • You just want to enjoy the basic features of an adjustable base.
  • You’re on a budget and don’t want to spend extra on features like head and foot massage.
  • You enjoy white glove delivery and not having to set up the product for yourself.
