Snoring… while we don’t like to talk about it, the fact remains that 40 percent of men and 24 percent of women suffer from this all-too-common issue. Many simply embrace it, but it disrupts their sleep and has even been linked to health issues.
There are products available geared toward the elimination of snoring once and for all. These products vary in functionality and are designed in different ways to target various types of snoring. If you’ve been looking for the right anti-snoring product for your needs and haven’t found success with mandibular advancement devices and other forms of mouthpieces, you may find relief through chin straps.
Today, we’re going to take a look at my experience with the My Snoring Solution device. It was featured in American Medical Review with CBS. Keep in mind that we aren’t doctors here at The Sleep Judge, but we tried this product out on my sleep partner who suffers from obstructive sleep apnea, so I think we have some pretty relevant feedback you can take advantage of, so let’s see if it lived up to the hype.
There are plenty of ways to help ease the snoring sounds and promote better sleep.

About the Creator- Firsthand Experience with Snoring
My Snoring Solution was brought to us by someone who knows all too well the many negative side effects of snoring. Stephen Matthews suffered from snoring, and he disturbed his entire family with the “chainsaw-like” noises.
Posed with serious medical risks associated with his snoring, Matthews attempted to acquire a CPAP machine. To his dismay, he faced a three-month-long waiting period before he could even receive a doctor’s prescription.
Birth of the Anti-Snoring Chin Strap
As frustrating as this was, it prompted a great idea. Matthews snores with his mouth open. If he could just keep it shut, perhaps the issue would reduce or even subside altogether.
The anti-snoring chin strap was soon born, and the initial prototype was made of towel strips. To the delight of Matthews and his family, it worked! Given this success, Matthews made it his mission to modify the device to make a product available to all snorers without the need of a doctor’s prescription.
How My Snoring Solution Works
Let’s get started by gaining an understanding of how anti-snoring chin straps work. In general, they’re designed to keep the lower jaw in an upward position. As we fall asleep, our muscles relax, and they are even paralyzed to a certain extent when we enter REM sleep.
If you’ve ever had a dream you were running but just couldn’t seem to get your legs to move fast, you understand how this works.
It also explains why the jaw tends to fall down, and the tongue and upper airway muscles fall backward. When this happens, the airway becomes blocked, and snoring commences.
My Snoring Solution is designed to cradle the chin and keep the jaw in place to prevent the tongue and soft tissue from falling back into the throat. While the device does allow for small movements of the jaw, your mouth will remain closed for the most part. This is good for a couple reasons:
Nitric oxide is produced in your sinuses, and this helps decrease oxygen deprivation.
Delivery of oxygen is further promoted since air through the nose is warmed and moistened.
How to Wear My Snoring Solution
It’s really easy to put this product on. With the black side away from the skin, place the strap under your chin and pull it over your face onto the top of your head. Make sure the bottom is positioned slightly below your bottom lip. It should fit snugly but comfortably.
Does My Snoring Solution Work?
My sleep partner has been using this product for over a week, and it did reduce his snoring. I did notice some rumblings on occasion, but they were minimal. For the most part, he sleeps with his mouth closed naturally, so I don’t think his snoring really stems so much from the lower jaw falling open.
Best Suited for Those Who Sleep with Mouth Open
In his case, MADs tend to work really well for my sleep partner, and these products work to move the lower jaw forward rather than upward. In our case, My Snoring Solution wasn’t the most effective product. However, I think results are situational. If you snore and tend to sleep with your mouth open, I definitely think My Snoring Solution is worth considering. It stays on very well, so I think it could prove compatible for the restless sleeper who moves around a lot.
With similar products, we’ve found them to easily slip off during the night. Furthermore, you don’t have to wear anything in your mouth, so you don’t have to worry about the excessive jaw soreness often associated with mouthpieces. If you wear dentures, many mouthpieces aren’t going to work, so I think this could be an effective alternative.
On the other hand, if you suffer from issues like a deviated septum, nasal polyps, or other issues that require you to breathe through your mouth, I think a mouthpiece may be a better option. If you simply don’t like MADs and other mouthpieces, take a look at our review of the Smart Nora anti-snoring pillow. This product detects snoring using a microphone and causes your pillow to elevate in response to quietly stop snoring without having to wear anything at all.
In terms of comfort, I think you’ll find My Snoring Solution to be very compatible. The material is really soft, and unlike other chin straps we’ve tried out, it didn’t have an excessive chemical smell.
It does cost more than many other chin strap options, but I’ll be the first to tell you that there is an obvious increase in quality with the My Snoring Solution. Some products we tried were almost unbearable due to the smell. Michael and I both wore this product even though I don’t snore since you do get to pick two when you order.
A Couple Slight Annoyances
While very minimal, there was some jaw soreness, but it only lasted a day or two in our combined experience. Keep in mind that the strap does fit kind of tight for obvious reasons. I noticed creases on my skin the next day, and it lasted around 30 minutes.
That was kind of annoying, so if you don’t have a very long drive to work, I’d recommend setting your alarm about 10 or 15 minutes early so you can take off the product early enough to allow those creases to start to diminish before you get your day started.
Benefit for Non-Snorers
I liked that My Snoring Solution kept my mouth closed as I sometimes sleep with mine open. This allowed me to take advantage of the benefits of nasal breathing at night, and I woke up feeling notably more energetic. Because of this, I think this product would be great for people who have noticed they drool on occasion as this will keep the mouth closed even if you don’t snore.
A Look at American Medical Review Findings
When you receive your device, you’ll also get a pamphlet and DVD that takes you through the findings of the American Medical Review as they took a look at this product with CBS’s Morley Safer. They found this product to be effective in relieving symptoms of:
- Limb jerking, punching, and kicking while sleeping
- Waking up tired and thirsty
- Memory problems and difficulty concentrating
- Heartburn and acid reflux
- Waking up to urinate through the night
- Low motivation
- Loss of motor skills
You also receive some valuable information including the Seven Steps for Snoring Success. These tips can help you in many aspects of life. My favorite was number six as it takes you through a very detailed explanation of how to detoxify your colon through proper diet. Who knew this could help snoring?
My Snoring Solution has been clinically tested at Kochi Hospital in Japan where the focus was on its effectiveness in improving obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. Another study at St. Mary Hospital also found it to be effective in lowering blood pressure.
My Snoring Solution Maintenance
Taking care of your My Snoring Solution chin strap is pretty easy. It’s machine-washable, so just throw it in the laundry. I think the construction is pretty sturdy, and it doesn’t use Velcro, so I think this is good for durability as you don’t have to worry about it wearing over time.
While it’s a little pricier than alternatives, I think you can reasonably expect better durability and more comfort as a result of the added investment.
