If you’re looking for a mattress cover, then look no further. Note that I said mattress cover, and not mattress pad. The Grand is a great quality product, but it’s definitely more of a protective cover than a supportive pad.
I took the liberty of testing it out for myself and making note of every possible feature I could find. Hopefully, this should help you to decide for yourself whether or not The Grand Mattress Pad is the right fit for you.

Presenting The THE GRAND Mattress Pad Cover
Mastertex has created this mattress pad in the hopes to provide a soft, comfortable sleep and a pad that stretches at the sides to fit some of the thickest mattresses, up to 20 inches in fact.
This is a great product for those looking for a decent mattress cover that will keep their bed clean from dust and dirt. It’s definitely not for anyone who is looking for extra body support, as this is fairly thin.
Features & Benefits
Here’s a breakdown of every feature, pros and cons, and anything else I could find about The Grand mattress pad to help you figure out if it’s the right one for you.
What Sets this Product Apart
There’s nothing really that remarkable or anything that sets this product apart from others mattress pads in its category. It’s a fairly basic mattress pad. In fact, I would say that the basic nature of the pad is what sets it apart from others. It’s thin, flimsy, and not well made.
So, let’s talk about construction. Immediately, upon opening, I noticed the poor quality. The stitching is loose and the fabric is itchy. It’s made from 50% cotton and 50% polyester for the surface, the back is 100% polyester fill. The stretchy knitted shirt that goes down over the sides of the mattress does stretch to cover a wide size mattress, and it’s 100% polyester as well. The skirt seemed to be the same quality and construction as any other sort of mattress pad or topper.
As for the loose stitching, it was really as poor as I say. I could run my fingers over it and it become even looser. After I washed it, it was toast. I don’t predict this pad to last more than a few months after regular use.
In terms of comfort, I didn’t really like it. It’s so thin and flimsy and the polyester surface underneath my sheet made it feel like I was sleeping on a Halloween costume. I’m a back sleeper, but it wouldn’t matter if you’re a back or side sleeper, it offers zero comfort or support.
I do, however, appreciate how it protected my expensive mattress from dust, sweat, and dirt.
The company promises to provide a hypoallergenic mattress pad as well as a soft and comfortable nights’ sleep. I say yes to the hypoallergenic feature. Even before washing, there were no issues with that. My husband is sensitive to dust and that sort of thing and he had zero issues with the topper in that regard.
But in terms of a soft and comfortable night’s sleep, I have to disagree. It’s just too thin to offer anything in the way of comfort and support. It’s definitely more of a mattress cover than a pad of any kind.
The heat retention on this product was pretty decent. I remained fairly cool all night and I suspect that was due to the thin material. It allowed the air to breath through the fabric and kept me from overheating (as I normally do because I’m a warm sleeper). So in that regard, it’s poor quality construction may actually be a plus for those who wish to stay cool and comfortable throughout the night.
Maintenance, Protection, Care and Warranty
This mattress pad seems to be pretty low maintenance. There’s no extra bells and whistles to worry about or wires like a heated pad. The parts have to be removed or used with care. So it’s great in terms of maintenance. Simply open, wash, and cover mattress.
It offers great protection for my expensive mattress, so I was happy with that. It may not be waterproof, but it is hypoallergenic and lived up to the expectation there.
As for washing, I see what reviewers meant about the already less than stellar quality diminishing even further upon washing and drying. The manufacturer claims this to be washing washable, but I have to disagree. While mine didn’t “melt together” like some consumers claimed, it definitely lost its shape and became really bunched up in the back. I even washed in cool water on a delicate cycle and tumbled dry on low heat. The picture shown is after washing.
Now, for care and warranty. Outside of the return policy of 30 days that I talk about below, there is nothing to be found in terms of an actual warranty.
How Easy Are Returns
Man, this was hard to determine. First, I went to the manufacturer’s website. There was nothing in the way of warranty info that I could find. Then I scoured online. Customers seem to have no trouble getting their money back, so there must be a system set up for returns.
But from what little info I could find, it appears that if you purchase this pad between November and December (during the holidays) then you only have until the end of January to return. Outside of this, you only have 30 days to make the return from day of receipt.
So, in terms of how durable this product is, consumers didn’t have very nice things to say. The thin material and poor construction meant that it tore easily and the vast majority stated that it fell apart upon washing.
No one had much to say about odor. And to throw my two cents in, I can agree. It had very little manufacturing smell. In fact, I probably could have slept on it straight out of the bag, but I washed it first because you really should.
After scouring the web for consumer reviews and feedback from the public, I found a huge wave of complaints in regards to the quality. But no one complained about customer support. So I assume it’s streamline and fairly easy to deal with Mastertex.
Feedback on its Features
There were those who loved the wide sides that stretched easily over the wider mattresses. But there were also those who hated how the extra material did fit well over smaller mattresses. To be fair, it is a topper that’s meant for thicker mattresses, so I don’t count that as proper feedback on the one and only bonus feature. It fit my super wide mattress perfectly.
So, to sum up, I would say that this Grand Mattress Pad is more of a mattress cover than a topper or pad. If you’re looking for something that’s going to be comfy and offer support, then keep looking. But if you want an inexpensive solution to protecting your expensive mattress then this is a good choice. Also, it’s great if you’re a cool sleeper as I found it to be breathable.
