Before you throw it out, carefully consider the possibility of extending its life with eLuxury’s Memory Foam Topper. Unboxing: Simple Setup

Unboxing is pretty self explanatory. The topper comes in a cardboard box, and it’s rolled and compressed. It will appear misshapen for awhile after unboxing. You have to allow it to fully decompress.

In my experience, offgassing lasted the first couple of nights. However, when using my sheet and protector, it really didn’t bother me at all. It’s pretty easy to get setup. Just try to even it up with the edges of your mattress. It helps to create small waves with the topper to manipulate its position. Deep pocket sheets would probably work best, but my standard queen sheets worked fine.

Storage Tip

If for any reason you need to store your topper, it is a little bulky. We recently took ours on vacation to plush up the firm hotel mattress feel, and it ended up taking most of the space in my trunk.

If you think you’ll ever need to store this, I’d be prepared with materials to tie it up and possibly even plastic wrap to prevent it from getting damaged and to keep it compressed. Everything sticks to memory foam, so it’s critical you keep it covered while in storage

How Plush Do You Like It?

It’s important to note that this topper is 2-inches thick, so this is the additional sinkage you can expect when you place it on your current mattress.

  • If you currently have a firm mattress, you can expect your sleep surface to feel more like a medium plush with the use of the topper.
  • A medium mattress will feel more like a plush.
  • If your mattress is already plush, it’s going to feel like you’re being hugged by your mattress.

Any way you look at it, your sleep surface is going to be plusher. Keep in mind if you carry a lot of weight or sleep on your stomach, you may find the sinkage to be too much. In this case, I’d recommend a more subtle plushness like that found in the eLuxury Pressure Relief Pad. However, if you like it plush, I think you’ll like how this feels.

Does It Sleep Hot?

Hot sleeping is something some people simply can’t handle. If this sounds like you, you may find the eLuxury Memory Foam Topper to sleep too hot.

If you ever tried out a traditional memory foam product, you’ll know that it offers a much deeper degree of contouring support. I was a big fan when it first hit the market. However, due to hot sleeping, many modifications have been made. While they are typically successful in increasing breathability, they often take away from contour.

A sacrifice is going to have to be made. If you aren’t bothered by hot sleeping and want something that’s super plush, you’ll be happy with what you get.

Features and Benefits

There are many options when it comes to changing the feel of your sleep surface. From toppers to pads and more, you need to understand what your goals are to know the features to look for to offer the benefits you desire.

The memory foam topper’s primary feature is that it adds significant plushness to your sleep surface. If you don’t feel like your mattress offers the right degree of hug, this could be the product for you. However, keep these two things in mind:

  • Your sleep surface will be quite a bit plusher
  • If your sleep partner likes a firmer surface, they probably won’t be a big fan

I like that the topper is placed directly on top the sleep surface. This allows you to buy a topper smaller than your bed size and put your topper on your side of the bed only. This is an excellent way to customize any mattress for sleep partners.

Composition

If you’ve never paid attention to the inside of your mattress, they are typically split up into various layers. For example, in a 10-inch mattress, you may very well find two inches of memory foam, two inches of polyfoam, and a six inch base.

When you purchase the two-inch memory foam topper from eLuxury, you’re essentially buying an extra layer for your sleep surface. It’s composed entirely of closed cell memory foam.

Heat Transfer: Be Prepared for Hotter Sleep

eLuxury makes it no surprise that this topper does sleep hot. It’s made of closed foam which has insulating features. The good news is that it offers that traditional memory foam feel that’s hard to incorporate into products optimized for heat transfer.

The heat from your body softens this type of memory foam in the appropriate points that allow for support along the curves of your body. For anyone who struggles with painful pressure points or lower back pain associated with back sleeping, the compromise can be worth it.

If you’re familiar with traditional memory foam, this product feels very similar, and I think its closed cell composition plays into this. Closed cell foam is typically better at resisting moisture and preventing motion transfer, but it does prevent air flow. So, if you really like that traditional memory foam feel and aren’t bothered by hot sleeping, I think you’ll really enjoy this product.

Thermal Test: A Look at Heat Transfer Performance

I took a look at the cooldown process after lying on my eLuxury memory foam topper for a half hour, and it took 20 minutes. This is twice as long as the average mattress takes to cool off, and it was being used with a mattress that only took around 8 ½ minutes to cool off on its own.

If you’re looking for something that sleeps cooler, I’d recommend taking a look at eLuxury’s cooling mattress pad. It’s specially designed with heat transfer in mind and can be a good supplemental purchase.

What’s It Feel Like?

I use my topper on a relatively plush sleep surface, and I’m certainly not lacking when it comes to deep contouring support. The entire 2-inches perfectly conform to the unique curves of your body.

If you’ve started to notice sagging in your comfort layers but still have adequate support, the eLuxury memory foam topper can provide a quick fix. However, consider its thickness as you analyze your sagging. An indentation several layers deep can’t be fixed with a single layer. In your case, it’s time to shop for a new mattress.

We’ve tried several mattresses under $500, so, if you’re on a budget, this might be a good way to go until you can afford something of higher quality.

Firmness- Just How Plush?

If you don’t like a plush mattress, this isn’t going to be a good choice for you. Even though the mattress I’m using is pretty plush, it’s even plusher when used with the eLuxury memory foam topper.

Standing on the mattress alone, you can see I sink in nine inches. When I add the topper, the sinkage becomes 11 inches. You can expect this 2-inch topper to add an extra 2-inches of plushness.

  • Firm mattress: expect this to give it more of a medium feel
  • Medium mattress- will feel much more plush with the topper in place
  • Plush mattress- will be incredibly plush.

If you have a plush mattress and enjoy the way it feels, I think you’ll really like this topper. However, if plush isn’t your thing, it may not meet your needs.

If you aren’t quite sure, keep in in mind:

  • Increased plushness can be a great fit for side sleepers as it increases contour and reduces pressure points
  • Plush mattresses can also often be a good match for people who don’t carry much weight since it can be difficult to exert the pressure necessary to engage with the various comfort levels

Motion Transfer

Where the eLuxury memory foam topper lacks in heat transfer it makes up for in motion isolation. Traditional memory foam is well-known for its ability to absorb energy and help keep sleep partners from bothering one another when they moved around or get in and out of bed.

I used my topper on a bouncy innerspring mattress, and it did a great job keeping the motion transfer under control. If you want a plusher sleep surface and struggle with a lack of motion isolation, this could prove to be a great purchase.

Maintenance, Protection, Care & Warranty

Don’t wash your memory foam topper. It will damage the product. If you do soil it, spot clean only.

I like that this product is made in the USA, and it exceeds CertiPUR-US certification standards. If you’re at all hesitant, it’s worth noting that I saw time and again where customers would post a negative review and then recant their statement after working with the company.

eLuxury is very good about providing remedies when you’re not satisfied. I even saw an instance where they replaced a product due to offgassing. If you are unhappy, I’d strongly encourage you to get ahold of eLuxury. They offer a 30 day trial to give you a chance to try it out before you’re fully committed.

Durability Expectations

You can get your eLuxury memory foam topper for under a hundred bucks, so it’s pretty inexpensive.

It features a density of three pounds per cubic foot. Considering its located at the top of your sleep surface where most wear and tear takes place, we typically like to see this number between 4-5 pcf. However, toppers of this quality typically require a harder hit to the wallet. Overall, you’re getting a decent value.

Note on Cutting Your Topper

We were asked if you can cut your topper. That’s a valid question… maybe you want to soften just one side of your mattress and need to adjust.

You can cut memory foam, but it’s very hard to make a clean cut. I’d recommend an electric knife. However, keep in mind you do so at your own risk because this will void your warranty.

Cost

This product is just slightly narrower than your mattress, and this is to accommodate snug placement using your fitted sheet and/or mattress protector. I like how the memory foam helps hold my sheet on place. I use an adjustable base, and my fitted sheet often snaps out of place. However, when using the memory foam topper, I’ve noticed this happens less often.

The great news is that you can buy your memory foam topper for around $100. Here’s a breakdown of the cost:

Our Final Verdict

At the end of the day, I thought the eLuxury Memory Foam Topper did a great job with reducing pressure points that cause excessive tossing and turning. You can really tell the foam is specially-formulated to contour to your body at any temperature and can go a long way in tuning up a worn-out sleep surface.

Keep in mind it does sleep hot, so it’s not going to be a good fit for people who struggle with hot sleeping. On the other hand, I think you’ll appreciate its ability to offer contour in all the right places. This can be great news for side sleepers and can often provide the relief back sleepers need to reduce lower back pain on firmer products.
