Top Layer
On the top of this mattress is the comfort layer, comprising of 3 inches of 3.0 lb density gel memory foam. As soon as you lay down, you’ll sink in and notice some pressure relief. Contouring to your body, the gel memory foam forms to your unique curves. Although memory foam can trap body heat, this layer has been infused with gel, which helps to regulate temperature and cool the mattress.
Bottom Layer

Firmness and Sinkage Expectations
When pressing my hand into the mattress, it first comes into contact with the top layer of gel memory foam, and it contours with the weight of my hand. As more pressure is added, the further down into the mattress is reached, and there’s a transition into the base layer. Depending on your size and sleeping position, you’ll find that there’s a range of difference in firmness opinions.
ILDs
To give you a better idea of the firmness, I took a look at the indentation load deflections (ILD) of each layer. To give you a better understanding, a rating of 12 is very soft, while a 50 is very firm. On the top and bottom layer of this eLuxury mattress, there’s an ILD of 12. This makes the mattress very soft, based on the ILD rating system.
Sinkage
The base of this mattress makes up 70% of the total thickness, but even so, both layers have the same ILD rating. With a total of 10 inches, I sank about 5.5 inches into the mattress, and was able to connect with the base layer of foam. With this amount of sinkage, I would rate this mattress on the firmer side of medium.
A mattress of this firmness level is a good option for people of heavier weight – because it takes more pressure to hit the base layer, those with higher weights will feel more supported. It’s also a good choice for people who sleep on their side, as the mattress avoids pressure points from forming in areas such as the shoulders and hips.
Motion Transfer Reduction
If you sleep with a partner, there’s a good chance you’ve experienced disturbances at some point, which is important to consider motion isolation. With the inclusion of memory foam, this mattress is able to isolate motion to the point of impact.
When I dropped a 20-pound hand weight next to another of equal weight on the mattress, there was minimal transfer. Because I share my bed with two active dogs, this is an important factor for me, and I couldn’t feel anything when they decided to move positions in the middle of the night.

With other mattresses, I often don’t need a top over and I wake up with a considerable amount of sweat. Not so with the Eluxury 10-inch – in the few weeks I’ve been sleeping on it, I haven’t been sweating and I’ve been using my quilted comforter to cover up. If hot sleeping bothers you, I would recommend this mattress for sweaty sleepers.

Cover Care
While the cover is washable, this only includes the top cover. For maximum durability, wash with cool or warm water on delicate setting followed by hang drying or tumble drying on low heat. It’s best to wash your Eluxury top cover by itself to avoid color transfer from other laundry items.
