My Casper Sheets

If you’re looking at luxury bedding, Casper sheets rate among some of the highest quality offered today. This 100% cotton sheet set is made to sleep cooler than the average sheet set and provide additional ease of use, so you don’t have to struggle at all to make sure your mattress is covered appropriately.

I have a lot to say about my experience with these luxury sheets and pillowcases, mostly good, very little bad. So, let’s dive in and see why the Casper Sheets pretty much live up to their reputation and determine if they’re worth the investment.

Are These Sheets Worthy of the Luxury Title?

The Casper sheet set is designed with a percale weave of 100% extra-long staple California cotton, the design of which is touted to offer a much cooler sleep environment than traditional sheets. Thread count is 200, which is on the lower end of the spectrum but still within a good range for the expected softness of cotton sheets.

What You Get

When you order Casper sheets, you’ll get the standard package that includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases. The pillowcases were quite a bit larger than my actual pillows, but I liked that because the bare end of the pillows wasn’t sticking out once I put them on the bed.

Convenience

The fitted sheet has little blue labels on the shorter sides to help you line up with the mattress. This is also nice, especially when dealing with larger sets (queen and king) that can be a struggle to set up properly. It also has an elastic strap that keeps it better fitted to your mattress with less chance of the corners popping off. I find that to be convenient since I tend to move a lot while sleeping.

Great Stitching

I inspected the material of the Casper sheets closely, looking at the quality. I was fairly impressed with the pillowcases, where the stitching was practically flawless. However, I found a few loose threads that didn’t remove easily from the flat and fitted sheets. This concerned me because, for the cost of the sheets and the claims of luxury, I would have expected better construction. Still, I didn’t find any other issues with the construction.

Washing & Shrinking

My first test of the sheets was to check size and shrinkage. I laid the flat sheet on the bed (king size sheet and mattress), and I was able to tuck it in on all sides with no problems. The Casper sheets were a good size, comparable to traditionally sized sheets. Since I like to make sure I won’t end up without covers during the night due to moving around, the size of the sheets pleased me.

Then, I measured the sheets and pillowcases to get an exact size. Considering that one of the biggest problems I’ve found with new sheets is how much they shrink on the first wash, I wanted to determine what expectations to have for this particular set. I ran the flat sheet and both pillowcases on a normal wash cycle and then a single dry cycle. Keep in mind that around 5% shrink is good, but anything over is cause for concern.

The Casper sheets passed this test without a problem, shrinking less than 4%, while the pillowcases were almost at the 5% threshold. But this is still acceptable, so I would rate the Casper sheets with an overall passing grade in terms of shrinkage.

Also, I tested the color of the Casper sheets. If there is any sign of color bleeding from the material after the initial wash, this is a sign of low-quality material. Fortunately, there was no bleeding, running, or color transfer, showing that the material is of high quality.

Features & Benefits

When it comes to the specifications and various benefits and shortfalls of the Casper sheets, I believe it’s a personal preference that determines if the good outweighs the less beneficial features. Here is the scope of the features, so you can decide for yourself.

Cotton Material

Most cotton sheets are a blend of cotton and something else or of multiple types of cotton. The Casper sheets are 100% extra-long staple California cotton, which can be a benefit, as the material tends to sleep cooler. Also, the particular weave used aids in assuring that they don’t capture too much heat. I found them quite comfortable in terms of how cool I stayed through the night. If you tend to have night sweats due to overheating or even due to a particular medical condition, these sheets will help you maintain a less detrimental sleep environment with good airflow, while still keeping you cozy enough to make it through the night.

However, I would also say that, while I don’t want to be weighed down by my sheets and prefer a lighter material, the Casper sheets have sort of a slippery quality that can cause some issues, especially if you move a lot while you sleep. I found that the top sheet didn’t suit my needs as a mobile sleeper, sliding away through the night and causing me to wake several times. However, if you don’t have a lot of motion during your slumber, I think the Casper sheets are beneficial in terms of how light and airy they are. You won’t have a problem with being uncovered if you aren’t a restless sleeper.

One other issue I experienced, since I do move around and shift positions quite a bit, was that these sheets seemed to be a bit noisy. I expect this is due to the fact that they are a single cotton material rather than a cotton blend. Again, this is really only of concern if you shift a lot during the night. If you sleep in a single direction – side, back, or stomach – you won’t experience problems with noise. This is only if you toss or turn a lot in your sleep.

Two-Tone Design

As with most styles, whether you like the two-tone design or not is based on personal preference. I feel that a single-color option – solid white or solid tan, for example – is more modern and crisp. At the same time, I had tested the grey and white set and the combo was very modern and went well with my semi-modern brown and grey décor. On the flipside, the colors would go well with a more traditional setting, too. So, it’s a versatile combination, for sure.

In addition, if you happen to have the Casper mattress, the sheets match the design, making it conducive to an even appeal with a theme. The most important considerations are whether or not you care enough about style for this to impact your decision, and if you do, you’ll want to design the bedroom décor around a two-tone, classic appeal. If you prefer a more stylish look, you probably won’t like the look of the Casper sheets. I feel that they work nicely for guest rooms where you don’t want to constantly change your style but would rather maintain a more classic, long-term design that will appeal for years.

Softness & Thread Count

I was initially wary of the 200-thread count. As you may know, thread count can have an effect on the softness of the sheets, and lower thread counts aren’t as soft. With 200 being on the low end of what is generally acceptable and the Casper sheets being 100% cotton (which works out best with a 300-400 thread count), I was concerned that the sheets would be rough to the touch.

I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that the Casper sheets were still fairly soft. The pillowcases are especially comfortable and make a little less noise than the sheets, and they aren’t as slippery, probably due to the fact that there is less motion in your head than the rest of your body. Of course, there are much softer sheets on the market, and these still tend to have a certain crispness that comes with the lower thread count.

According to the manufacturer, the lower thread count is optimal because, while the cotton material still offers softness, a higher thread count would weigh down the sheets and reduce breathability. While I haven’t found this to be the case in the past, I can’t argue with the fact that the Casper sheets do sleep cooler than a number of various sheets I’ve tested over time. Whether this has to do with the weave or the thread count, however, is uncertain.

If you’re looking for an ultra-soft sheet set, you should look elsewhere. However, I would give the Casper sheets a 4.5-5.0 on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest. I didn’t mind the crispness of the sheets, other than the way that it caused noise problems for me.

Availability

The good news is that Casper sheets are readily available through a number of online and storefront retailers, and the cost is fairly consistent, ranging around $200 per set. While this seems like a hefty price tag, I would consider it a reasonable investment in terms of durability. After several washes and dries, I found no damage or signs of wear and tear, which is definitely a positive detail to consider when purchasing sheets. Unless you’re one of those people who changes their style frequently, you might want to consider heading to your nearest retailer or ordering online so that you have a set of sheets that are longer lasting.

100-Night Trial

Perhaps one thing that the Casper sheets offer that some other manufacturers don’t is a free trial. When you purchase the sheet set, you have 100 nights to test them out and see how you like them. If you aren’t satisfied and find that they don’t fit your needs, you can return them. This way, you can guarantee that the higher cost of these sheets doesn’t leave you out the cash for something you’ll never use again.

What Others Have to Say

When you look at general reviews of the Casper sheets, you find happy customers. In reading the reviews, I found that the only consistent complaint was wrinkling. In fact, several people stated that the flat sheet and pillowcases had to be ironed after washing and drying in order to look nice when dressing the bed. Otherwise, most people who actually purchased the sheets were pleased by its performance.

Conclusion

You have to decide what matters most to you before making a purchase, especially when investing in a set of sheets like Casper. If you’re insistent upon high thread count or are a restless sleeper, you probably don’t want to invest in these sheets since you likely won’t be satisfied. You could take advantage of the 100-night trial and test them out, though, without risking losing your investment.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a very light and airy, breathable set of sheets, you’ll love the Casper sheet set. Its weave and the 100% cotton work together to assure that even those who sleep hot and have night sweats will benefit from the additional coolness of the material. And as long as you sleep mostly in one position – and so does your partner – you won’t have issues with the slippery surface or the noise that can be an issue for lighter sleepers.

Dressing the bed is easier with the markings and the extra elastic band that keeps the fitted sheet firmly in place. You’ll also enjoy the envelope encasement of the pillowcases that keep your pillows from sliding out of the case at night. This was probably my favorite feature of the sheet set. In addition, the fact that there is little shrinking after the first wash combats any concerns with the quality of the sheets, as does the fact that there is no color transfer. Although I am too restless in my sleep to enjoy the Casper sheets, I find that they are worthy of purchase under the right circumstances and can really be beneficial to one-direction, heavy sleepers who can’t stand when they get too hot at night.
