1771 Living Centium Essential Sateen Collection Sheet

The bedding you choose may not be as important as your mattress and pillow choice in reference to your overall comfort, but it is an important detail to consider. Sheets can influence your nighttime sleeping temperature, personal preferences, and even decor–and should be taken into account when you are deciding which sheets are best for you.

The Sleep Judge Review Team has personally reviewed the 1771 Living Centium Essential Sateen Collection Sheets to provide our own personal opinion of the comfort and durability of the product.

If you are tired of:

  • Sheets that don’t stay put
  • Sheets that claim durability but fall apart
  • Sheets that aren’t deep enough
  • Sheets that pull free
  • Sheets that pill after washing
  • Sheets that retain heat

You definitely want to take a closer look at these sheets!

About the 1771 Living Company

As a global distributor partnered with global manufacturing companies to provide both bath and bedding products, the 1771 Living Company is well versed in what consumers want and need. They offer quality, affordable, and long lasting products that provide comfort for an experience you can look forward to.

Shipping & Unboxing

The sheets were shipped quickly to my front door within a week of order. They arrived in a plain brown cardboard box to avoid drawing attention to it, and it also passes saving son to the customer by not branding the box. The sheets were also folded and packaged into a thick plastic casing, was compact, and looked like a quality item.

There was a faint off-gassing smell upon opening, most likely associated with the material blend used, but it dissipated quickly after shaking out the sheets and was gone within a half-hour. I was unsure if the material would reflect a thickness that is often seen with a 100% cotton option, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the fabric felt heavier than I expected.

You always want to wash your material before use, but for this article, I did showcase the product as it arrived in order to ensure initial fit and feel. This also allowed me to compare the feel and wear after use and washing.

Initial Impressions

I have been impressed with the quality of sheets offered by this company before, so I was anticipating a similar item in reference to feel and comfort. I am not usually a fan of cotton material blends and sateen woven sheets, but I was impressed with the thick, initial feel of these sheets. It is obvious that there is a high-quality thread weave occurring here and my hopes were that these would be as overall comfortable as their 100% cotton sheets.

The queen size sheets I received had a fitted, flat, and 2 pillowcases included. The top sheet also has labels to direct where to place the sheets (top of bed vs bottom) and to help keep your entire set together- in case you have multiple white sheets that are easy to mix up.

The top and bottom (short side) of each fitted sheet is elasticized as well, making it easy to determine which corner goes where without having to rotate or guess. It also provides a nice stretch for a snug, but not overly tight fit.

Construction

Although these sheets are a 65% cotton, 35% polyester blend to create the smoother, shiny sateen fabric weave, they provide an initial impression of quality and durability. I am not typically a fan of material blends but can recognize a quality item when I see it, and I actually was pleasantly surprised at how much I kept coming back to these sheets as a source of comfort and relaxation each night.

Softness and Thread Count

Sateen, by definition, is cotton blended weave to allow for a shinier, smoother top surface with a dull bottom. It creates a crisp, thick, and luxurious feel that should only improve with wear and washing. Made with long-staple cotton, the material feels like quality and offers decent breathability for a more comfortable night’s sleep.

It is also hard to define a true Thread-count anymore as it has become a very subjective term that is used in the bedding industry to manipulate the quality of their products. A higher count fabric doesn’t always reflect thread quality and may simply be counting multiple, thin, inferior threads rather than thicker, more quality options. Because of this, the company does not feel the use of thread count accurately showcases what they are offering and allows its own product to speak for itself.

Elastic Fitted Sheet

Mentioned above, the head and foot of the fitted sheet is fully elasticized which provides a snug, yet easy to apply fit, as well as an easy indicator of which sheet side belongs where. Personally, this is a time saver for me as I never seem to line the sides of the fitted sheet up correctly the first time- until now! I found this design to create a nice, tight fit that didn’t pull up when used.

Deep Pockets

Although the company claims the sheets have a 14 inch pocket, I was able to easily for them over my 12 inch mattress and 3 inch foam topper with room to spare for a total of approximately 15 inches. There was no initial gaping of the non-elasticized side and everything fit snugly without pulling too tight. I estimate that you could probably fit them over a 16 inch mattress without issue.

Envelope Style Pillowcase

Envelope style pillow cases keep your pillow in place without slipping or falling out. The queen size sheets come with standard-sized cases that fit both out standard and queen size pillows just fine without ruining the overall pillow experience.

Heat Transfer

Cotton is a great material to use for material breathability, and polyester weaves are often cooling as well due to how the fibers are made. I found these sheets to be comfortable, cool to the touch, and held no uncomfortable heat through the night.

Durability

The company purposely makes their products durable and long-lasting. Washing and using these sheets over and over for a month only created a more comfortable, soft, and breathable sleep experience.

Feature and Benefit Feedback

Companies obviously want to provide the best quality product possible, and the cotton sateen blend material allows for temperature regulation, long lasting comfort, and durability. These are all details that justify price points and recommendations.

A deeper pocket option would have been nice to those who own a higher profile mattress would have the option for purchase. Plus, deeper sheets allow for more versatility with ergonomic mattresses and topper additions.

Size Options

The sheets come in a range of sizes to fit any bed you may have. Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King,  and California King are available for purchase.

SIZE CHART

Sizes Fitted Sheet Flat Sheet Pillowcase
Twin 39″ x 76″ x 14″ 67″ x 98″ 20″ x 26″
Twin XL 39″ x 80″ x 14″ 67″ x 104″ 20″ x 26″
Full 55″ x 76″ x 14″ 88″ x 98″ 20″ x 26″
Queen 60″ x 80″ x 14″ 92″ x 104″ 20″ x 26″
King 76″ x 80″ x 14″ 110″ x 104″ 20″ x 36″
Cal King 72″ x 84″ x 14″ 110″ x 104″ 20″ x 36″

Color

The sheets are also offered in a Crisp White, Seagull Gray, or Farmhouse Navy- which, be warned, is a deeper gray in color rather than blue. I do wish their color palette was a bit more extended and the names were more indicative overall to avoid getting something you didn’t expect.

Maintenance, Care, and Warranty

Washing in cold or warm water and then hanging to dry or tumbling on low is recommended. Personally I wash in cold water and tumble low and have had no issues with shrinkage.

Warranty

The sheets come with a 60 day sleep trial and allows you to return your sheets for any reason if you are not satisfied during this time period. This no-hassle option allows you to receive a prepaid shipping label to send their closest charity partnership so the product doesn’t go to waste.

Cost

These are considered a luxury item and the cost does reflect this, but shipping is also included as part of the cost within the contiguous United States.  Costs start at $99 for twin sets and go up to $129 for California King sets.

Reviews and Feedback

Like their other products, these sheets are well received and are a popular bedding option for consumers. They sleep cool, are easy to launder, wear well, and fit the majority of mattresses people have. I could find no issue with any review outside of shipping issues or the arrival of a defective sheet which was promptly replaced.

Who We Recommend the 1771 Living Essential Cotton Sheet Set For

If you have been on the search for a long-lasting, comfortable, and silky smooth, shiny surface, this is an excellent option. The 1771 Living Sateen Sheets wash wonderfully and are incredibly comforting.

Our Final Verdict

I didn’t think I would like these more than a 100% cotton sheet, but I do. We provide an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up for the comfort and soft wear of these long-lasting sheets. Although we wish they came in deeper sheets for a wider variety of mattress profiles, they provide a good fit to a 14 to 15 inch mattress size without pulling too tight and may fit a deeper option a bit more snugly.
