Breakdown of the PangeaBed Copper Mattress

The PangeaBed Copper mattress is a product that makes some pretty exciting claims. Their site features images of fit young couples often in what seems to be workout clothes, and they say the product will help you live a happier and healthier life. It’s clear they market to those who are health-conscious and looking for ways to use sleep to increase overall quality of life. When it comes to the use of copper in the mattress, PangeaBed makes a great point that it’s been scientifically proven that copper provides certain health benefits, and you can reap many of these just by making regular contact with copper ions.

When the product initially arrived, I appreciated the pleasant packaging. While there was a slight tear on one of the sides of the product, this is not unusual during shipping. I have received another product from PangeaBed, and the reliable shipping in a timely fashion is something I have been able to rely on.

Who’s It For?

Before I go on any further, I’m going to take a moment to answer a question you need to know the answer to before you consider this product any further. Is it best for back, stomach, or side sleepers? We all have our own preferences. Personally, I sleep equally on my side, stomach, and back, and I didn’t notice a particular position that caused discomfort or pressure. We can see from the basic construction of the mattress why it works well for any sleeping type:

Back Sleepers

  • 100 percent Talalay latex provides uplifting feel for the support you need

Side Sleepers

  • Your hips and elbows add pressure, and the PangeaBed Copper counteracts this through the use of PangeaBed™ Cool Gel Memory Foam for cradling support

Stomach Sleepers

  • Components balanced in a way that offers the right support for stomach sleepers, too

PangeaBed Copper Notable Features

If you’re still reading, there are obviously features about the PangeaBed Copper mattress that intrigue you, so now it’s time to get into the nitty gritty about the various features this mattress has to offer.

Construction

For starters, you want to understand what’s beneath the pretty cover, and a picture’s worth a thousand words.

1. COVER

The first layer is comprised of 5/8th of an inch of quality quilted cover. Rather than many of the thinner layers on the market that can easily rip and tear, I was highly impressed with the high degree of detail on the cover. Furthermore, it’s hypoallergenic and very comfortable to the touch.

2. LATEX

Next we move on to layer two, an inch and a half of 100 percent pure copper infused Talalay latex. It’s located close to the surface in order to more easily provide you its health and heat dispersion benefits.

3. PHASE CHANGE GEL INFUSED MEMORY FOAM

Layer three takes aches and pains into consideration as it’s comprised of one and a half inches of Phase Change Gel Infused Memory Foam. This material is known to provide cool, cradling comfort that reduces tossing and turning during the night.

4. BASE

Finally, we move on to the seven inch solid core high-density foam base. This acts to support and contour to the sleeper’s body weight.

Comfort and Firmness

Now that you have a better understanding of what’s inside of your mattress, you can better understand how the product performs when it comes to overall comfort and firmness. The majority of comfort comes from the top layers. For this product, this would consist of the quilted cover; Talalay, copper-infused latex; and PangeaBed Cool Gel. These properties provide both cradling comfort and additional support. Best of all, since the Talalay material is manufactured in a way that creates tunnels for air to travel through, you will likely notice a high degree of breathability.

On a firmness scale, I rate this product a six out of ten. While it’s not overly-firm, it does provide a higher level than mattresses like my memory foam. However, instead of sinking-in, you feel more like you’re being cradled. This makes it easier to move around in the bed and find that comfortable spot to get you through the night.

Support

You spend around eight hours of each day in your bed, and it’s important yours is able to offer you the level of support you need. Therefore, we need to focus on the base of the PangeaBed Copper mattress to understand what to expect. When it comes to this product, the seven inch solid core high-density foam not only supports, but also contours. While the mattress did notably conform to my body, it did so in a way that minimized sink-down, that feeling that the bed is enveloping you. As I slept in the bed, I could feel the curvature of my spine corrected. I sit at a desk for long hours every day, and I notice that I tend to slouch. In fact, it’s estimated that as much as 80 percent of Americans will complain of back pain in their lives, and poor posture is a common reason why. However, when I lay on the bed, I not only feel as though everything lines up the way it should be, but I also feel a reduction in pressure points that my poor posture produces.

Edge Support and Motion Transfer

Edge support measures the bed’s ability to keep you from falling off when you get close to the edge of the mattress. The PangeaBed Copper is somewhat lacking when it comes to this factor. When I sat on the bottom edge at both the center and side, I noticed a high degree of sinkage.

I think it’s worth noting that, while a low degree of edge support is often looked upon as a negative aspect, I did herniate a disc during my use of this product, and I found that the low edge support made it much less painful to get up in the morning. This was because I was able to effectively slide out of the bed. I can attest that this proved to be a huge benefit to me during the days following my injury. When it comes to motion transfer, this product is impressive. My son was able to do a backflip WITH a bowl of water on the mattress. Not a drop was spilled. This shows that the product can help reduce the motion transfer we often suffer with when we sleep with a loved one.

Temperature Regulation Features

Okay, so, to answer the big question… does the implementation of copper really help keep the bed cool? To test this, I laid on the PangeaBed Copper mattress for a period of 30 minutes. After this, I laid for the same amount of time on my PangeaBed Classic mattress. Now, the primary difference between these two products is that the layer of Talalay latex in the Copper version is infused with copper. Therefore, we would expect the temperature regulation of this product to be more impressive.

The Copper didn’t disappoint. It took around three minutes longer for the Classic bed to return to room temperature than the Copper. The Copper versus Classic is a good test to run to see if the copper makes a difference since their construction is so similar. However, to put this into perspective, I decided to run a similar test on my memory foam mattress. It took my memory foam mattress seven minutes longer to return to room temperature after having laid on it for only three minutes!

Odor and Offgassing

Strong odors are a result of offgassing that occurs when a mattress if first introduced into the home. This product features natural latex material, so offgassing is minimal. While you can detect a slight chemical smell when you actually push your nose into the cover and sniff, it wasn’t noticeable to me just laying on the mattress.

Durability and Quality of Materials

You get what you pay for. While it can be difficult to gauge durability of a product until you’ve had several years to try it out, you can give yourself a good idea of what to expect when you examine the quality of the materials used. Natural Talalay latex like that used in this product placed over a foam base offers a high degree of quality, and I would rate it at a three out of five when it comes to use of quality material. However, when you consider the fact that it incorporates copper technology, I can’t help but increase my rating to a four out of five. This is because copper is known to help fight off bacteria and fungi, and this can significantly help increase life span.

Maintenance, Protection, Care, and Warranty

Okay, so now you have quite a bit of information you need to know before making a purchasing decision. However, what happens after you’ve made the investment? For starters, it’s worth noting that, if you have kids in the home, you can expect the mattress to get dirty. After all, the majority of the cover is white, so I would strongly recommend you purchase a cover if you want to increase the longevity and aesthetic appeal of this product as it doesn’t flip.

I was impressed with the fact that PangeaBed stands behind the quality of their product, going so far as to provide a 100 night sleep trial. What better way to prove to consumers they have a product worth buying? However, if you’re not impressed, all you have to do is contact PangeaBed via email and let them know you’d like to initiate a return. A representative will get back with you within two business days. They will help arrange for a pickup by a charitable organization. Once the return is complete, you will receive a full refund. However, if there are any cuts in the mattress, the warranty becomes void. On the other hand, if you take care of your product, the limited warranty lasts for a full decade.

Consumer Feedback

You can learn a lot from the experiences of others. However, everyone is unique, and it can be difficult to make a wise decision based on my interpretation alone of the quality and features of the PangeaBed Copper mattress. That’s why I did some research to see what others have to say about their experiences. Just some of the notable feedback I found includes:

  • Mattress is easy to set up
  • Great price for the quality level delivered
  • Product is made in the USA
  • Offers ample support for pregnant women to sleep comfortably
  • Good overall customer service response
  • Doesn’t take long to break the product in
  • Support not as effective for consumers over 250 pounds

Who I Recommend This Mattress For

Once you’ve made a purchase, many companies will overlook the future needs you may have, and there are customer service nightmares that make consumers cringe. It’s important to understand what to expect if you ever need to get a hold of a PangeaBed representative. I had some questions on the use of the copper, so I visited the website to find out more. When you get to the site, you’ll see a convenient pop-up box pictured below that allows you the chance to initiate a conversation.

Pleased, I asked my question, but I never did get a response and shut my browser down 30 minutes after asking. However, I called customer service so I could pass on to you just how responsive they are. When you call, you are quickly connected with a to-the-point automated system that allows you the chance to easily connect with a customer service representative without having to first select dozens of subsections. Once I was on the line with a live agent, it didn’t take long to realize she was highly knowledgeable of the many benefits of copper technology.

While their online support needs some improvement, you can rest assured that the telephone representatives seem to be on the same page with the company and are able to provide quality information. Best of all, I did not experience any communication barriers as I spoke on the phone, a common nuisance of customer service. You stand to gain a lot by taking advantage of quality mattress reviews. After all, this is a significant investment, and you owe it to yourself to make the best choice. The PangeaBed Copper mattress is ideal for any type of sleeper, and it really shines when it comes to helping users sleep cool. If you weigh 250 pounds or less and are looking for a solution to help reduce those fitful nights when you wake up in a sweat, this could very well be just the product you’ve been looking for. It’s also great for:

  • People who sleep with a partner who moves around a lot
  • Those suffering with poor posture
  • Allergy suffers
