Which One: My Green Mattress VS Novosbed

Updated October 28, 2019

Each and every person has a personal list of priorities. There are things we are willing to sacrifice and things that we deeply care for and are important to us. It is said that the true value of the product is not reflected by its price tag. It is measured by how much a person is willing to spend on it to solve a problem. And some may never understand the importance of investing in a good mattress unless they had the chance to sleep on a terrible one. Contrary to some beliefs, a sophisticated mattress isn’t an expense exclusive to rich or sick people that spend a lot of time in bed. It’s an expense for everyone who understands the consequences of sleeping on a bed you can’t find comfort in.

Cushioning, comfort, responsiveness, breathability, bounce… there are all terms associated with the mattress world, but do we always understand what they fully mean and how important they are? There are so many factors that make a mattress good or bad for you, that it’s practically impossible to pick the very best mattress in the world. We do, however, have two very interesting models we’ve set our eyes on.

One of them is made by a manufacturer that has vouched to create a product made from natural and organic materials that supports and understand the comfort that the body must rely upon when sleeping. The second one has invested in a product that combines even weight distribution and cushioning up to a point where your body can rest in almost any position and still feel comfortable in doing so.

Without further ado, we present the My Green Mattress Natural Escape and the Novosbed, two high-end products with a common goal: user comfort and satisfaction.

Construction

As with every great brand, My Green Mattress has a powerful history. When the founder’s daughter started suffering from allergies and eczema, the worries father felt that he could do something about it. His personal research revealed that a natural mattress could alleviate some of these symptoms. That’s how Natural Escape was born – to provide comfort and support thanks to the combination of natural latex and a strong coil system.

Top Layer – Organic Cotton

We already know that cotton is one of the best and most common materials used. Its moisture-wicking properties increase the usability of the fabric and it’s used in items that vary from clothing to towels. The cover of the Natural Escape mattress is a blend of organic cotton that’s combined with natural wool. This makes it pleasant when in contact with the skin and provides the sleeper with both breathability and a soft feel.

Second Layer – Natural Dunlop Latex

In order to add responsiveness and cushioning to the mattress, My Green Mattress has added a 3 inch layer of natural Dunlop latex. This material is known for its long lifespan and durability, but the comfort level is actually surprising. The materials used meet GreenGuard’s standards, which leads to minimal offgassing, since there is minimal volatile compound emission. You know how new mattresses often emit a chemical smell straight after unboxing? With Natural Escape, this is no longer the case.

Third Layer – Coil Spring System

The 3-zone pocketed coil spring system offers support for your back. This 8 inch layer features individually wrapped coil systems, which means that every time you put pressure on the mattress, only specific parts of it will actually sink in. This adds additional comfort to your sleeping partner, as the system will minimize the impact created by every individual sleeper. In addition, the coil system will also push the mattress to regain its initial shape after pressure has been applied on the surface.

Firmness of a My Green Mattress

Depending on what type of a sleeper you are, a mattress that’s suitable for you will have a very specific firmness level. If you like to sleep on the side, you’ll need a softer mattress, but if you sleep on the stomach or on your back, a firmer mattress is a better option. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is the highest firmness level, the Natural Escape mattress is a solid 7. Thanks to the inner layer of latex, this mattress is ideal for people who are heavier, not only because it relieves pressure points, but mainly because it can keep your spine correctly aligned when you sleep. In general, people who suffer from weight-related problems best sleep on their backs and a firm mattress will prevent them from sinking into the bed.

The beauty of the Natural Escape mattress is that it’s divided into 3 comfort zones to provide different levels of support for shoulders, hips and back. This means that the mattress offers additional support for your pelvic, lumbar and shoulder areas. What sets each zone apart is the different coil gauge. Consequently, the top and bottom areas are supported thanks to the 15.5 coil gauge, while the middle zone features a 14.5 coil gauge. The edges of the mattress are supported by a 13.5 coil gauge perimeter, to make sure it stays firm under pressure. Edge support is really important if you want to enjoy every bit of the mattress while you sleep and especially if you sit on the edge of the bed during the day to, let’s say, fold your laundry and watch TV.

Feel of A My Green Mattress

When you first touch the surface of the Natural Escape mattress, you will notice the design that features a pleasant pattern. Due to the combination of cotton and wool, the surface is soft to the touch, even if the overall product can’t be categorized as “soft”. The organic cotton used in manufacturing the cover is GOLS certified, while the wool sewn underneath is Oeko-Tex certified. It’s a real delight to experience such craftsmanship in a medium-firm mattress that somehow manages to pass as soft when you first pass your hands upon its surface. We’re dealing with a high-quality product, there’s no doubt about it.

Latex Layer

With the variety of memory foam mattresses currently available on the market, people tend to forget about the many qualities that latex can bring to bedding. Latex is one of the most durable materials ever to be used in the construction of the mattress, especially if it’s natural and not blended.

Innerspring Layer

Just as you would expect, the coils offer great mattress responsiveness due to the bounce-back and capacity of returning the product to its original shape. But since the Natural Escape mattress features individually wrapped coils, this promises a good motion isolation level, since the springs act individually and don’t influence the entire layer when doing so.

Edge Support

The high degree of edge support provided by the 13.5 coil gauge is an underestimated feature. You can test this yourself, by pushing down a corner of the mattress and examine the edge support it provides.

Organic Materials

My Green Mattress takes pride in using three natural materials in the manufacturing of the Natural escape mattress. First off, there’s the wool, which is 100% natural and doesn’t contain any polyester fibers. The cleaner used on the wool is GOTS compliant. Same standard is available with the Dunlop latex and the cotton fabric.

Construction

Novosbed has channeled all of its efforts into a single product, designed for comfortable and relieving sleep. Their memory foam mattress is customized for each of the 3 basic firmness levels. There is a soft version for people who like sleeping on their sides, a firm option for back and stomach sleepers and the medium version, which is suitable for almost any kind of sleeper. The insides of the mattress are determined by the firmness level that you opt for. In the following paragraphs, you will learn what the medium option has in store for you.

Top Layer – Tencel Fiber Cover

The cover of the Novosbed is made from raw material wood extractions that are moisture-wicking and can keep your body cool and dry when temperatures are too high. The cover also blends some lyocell, modacrylic, silica and polyester. There is rayon and cotton inside the inner lining. The top cover is very stylish, resembling a floral pattern that’s pleasant to the eye and touch.

Second Layer – Ultra-Dense Airflow Memory Foam (Novos Comfort Zone)

Underneath the top cover of the Novosbed mattress you can find a 2 inch layer of Airflow Memory Foam. Characterized by the improved airflow of the layer, the Novosbed is designed to improve air circulation and disperse heat, while the memory foam itself provides cushioning and comfort whenever you lie down. While breathability may not seem like an important feature at first, it’s a function that people truly learn to appreciate during those hot summer nights when they feel like their skin is all wet and sticky.

Third Layer – Ultra-Dense Memory Foam (Recore Transition Zone)

What could be better suited as support for a top layer of memory foam than another layer of memory foam? Measuring 2 inch in thickness, this second foam layer acts as support for the first, while making sure to provide cushioning or pressure points and isolate and absorb motion.

Fourth Layer – Premium Support Foam (Durabase Support Zone)

Beneath these 2 layers lies something that Novosbed like to call the Durabase Support Zone. This 7 inch layer of Premium Support Foam fulfills the role of even weight distributor to make sure that the mattress is balanced enough to support both sleepers.

Firmness of a Novosbed

With all of these layers combined, you get a mattress that’s more medium to firm, making it a very good choice for people who like to sleep on their back or on their stomach. The firmness level does a very good job in contouring the shape of your body and you can fully feel how the memory foam is embracing you. However, if you’re looking for a mattress with solid edge support, this might not be the best choice. Even so, there is less sinkage on the edges than what you’d expect from a mattress with so many layers of memory foam.

Feel of a Novosbed

As the cover of the Novosbed touches your fingertips, you can feel that it’s very thin. This is actually a good thing, considering that you want to actually feel and enjoy the very first memory foam layer that lies underneath the cover. The pattern itself is very pleasant and it’s a shame that you’ll eventually cover it with bed sheets and won’t get to enjoy it that much.

Unique Features– Novosbed

Coolness

The Tencel cover is known for providing breathability, which is a very important feature in a mattress, as your body tends to get warmer once your fall asleep. The open-cell airflow foam creates a solid number of airways that absorb your body’s heat and dissipate it, for maximum night comfort.

My Green Mattress– Natural Escape

There is no doubt that this mattress was designed for people who love eco-friendly products. The Nature Escape mattress is a perfect combination of cotton, wool and latex, to make sure that people who want comfort and an allergy relief can count on such a product.

The uniqueness of the innerspring layer will make sure that the mattress absorbs motion as to provide a comfortable sleep for both partners, while providing you with the springiness and response you would expect from this kind of product. The generous layer of latex is not only durable, but offers cushioning even for people who are overweight. Due to the blend of natural and organic materials, there is little offgassing even as you first unpack the mattress. Even more, the price is surprising for a product that’s so natural and durable.

Remembering the fact that this mattress was designed by the My Green Mattress founder to provide medical assistance and allergy symptoms alleviation for his daughter is the first sign that a lot of heart was put into creating this product. The coil gauge variation spread throughout the whole surface of the mattress is a helpful feature that makes it easy for the bed to provide just the right amount of support for very specific areas of your body.

Novosbed Mattress

The Novosbed mattress is a great product for people who have a hard time finding their ideal sleeping position. The construction of the mattress makes it easy to move around without feeling like you’re moving in sinking sand. Even if the model we’ve spoken of today is the medium option, it does fall a little bit on the firm side.

All the memory foam layers built into the mattress could lead you to believe that motion transfer reduction is a failed chapter for the Novosbed, but you’d be wrong. The mattress does a really good job in absorbing motion, while allowing mobility. Compared to the Natural Escape mattress that only provides 100 nights of free trial, you get up to 120 of those with this product, allowing you to really test its effectiveness before deciding if you want to stick with it on the long run.

Conclusion

It’s safe to say that no matter which of the two mattresses you opt for in the end, you’re buying a good quality product. It really depends if you’re more into the organic and natural side of things or you want a mattress with good motion absorption. While both of these products are definitely placed above the market average in terms of comfort and body support, there’s something about the Natural Escape mattress that makes it really appealing. It doesn’t necessarily mean that Novosbed isn’t a good choice (we have hundreds of positive customer reviews to support this claim), it’s just that My Green Mattress is the kind of brand with a value proposition that stands out. And the story behind how the products were born is amazing.

However, in terms of quality, both of these mattresses fall in the same range, even if their construction is a bit different. In the end, it all comes down to what type of sleeper you are and what your expectations are as far as mattresses are concerned.
