The Layla Mattress VS The Helix Midnight Mattress

Sleep is crucial to our mental and physical health. Without getting proper sleep, we won’t be able to function properly and even our day to day tasks will start to feel like a challenge. In this day and age, it’s normal to have to operate on a sleep deficit since we’re always on the go and plugged into technology. We should try to remember, however, that we’ve only got one body and it’s up to us to take good care of it. Without proper sleep, our bodies will start to crumble and will cause detrimental effects on our health.

While unplugging and doing a technology cleanse would be a good start to cleaning up our sleep hygiene, we should also invest in a good quality mattress. We sleep on our bed every single night, and it amounts to about 25% of our day. If you sleep on a mattress that’s already past its due date, you’ll wake up with aches, pains, headaches, and migraines.

Pros and Cons

When looking for a mattress, you should look for one that’s best suited to your needs. There are currently many mattresses on the market, and it can be overwhelming as new mattresses are added every single day and companies are continually trying to innovate to give them an edge over their competitors. To narrow things down for you, we’ve identified two mattresses that are popular in the market – The Helix Midnight Mattress and the Layla Mattress.

Both these mattresses have additional technological features to cater to their customers. The Helix company even has a sleep quiz on their website so that they can recommend a mattress that’s tailored to your individual needs. The Layla Mattress, on the other hand, has memory foam that’s specially infused with copper to provide additional comfort to you while you sleep.

Construction

Helix is a favorite among individuals as they have a number of different mattresses to cater to a wide variety of individuals. If you’re not sure about what type of bed would suit you best, Helix has even added a sleep quiz onto their website. Depending on the choices that you make, the quiz utilizes Color MATCH technology to provide you with a mattress that best suits your needs.

While Helix offers different mattresses, we will focus on the Helix Midnight model in this particular article. This mattress is one of the most popular purchases with raving reviews from its buyers. However, if this mattress isn’t suitable for you, Helix has a number of other mattresses available with one that’s sure to be appropriate for you.

The Helix Midnight is made up two different types of material – premium foam and springs. With this hybrid construction, it offers excellent edge support and provides pressure relief. The mattress is also popular as it has a medium firmness and provides an optimal amount of support.

Top Layer – Cover

The cover is made of 100% polyester with a special two-touch design. While the top layer is made of a cover that’s both incredibly soft as well as stretchable, the lower cover layer has unique features in place to keep you feeling fresh and cool throughout the night. If you require extra breathability, you can also choose to upgrade to an UltraCool cover that has a material that facilitates temperature regulating properties.

Second Layer –Comfort Layer

The second layer provides supreme comfort and is made of Helix’s special foam called the Memory Plus Foam. Similar to traditional memory foam, it provides the classic sink in feeling while relieving pressure and contouring to your specific body type. Thus, giving support for proper spinal alignment.

Third Layer –Transition Layer

The transition layer is in between the body shape layer and the comfort layer. Its primary goal is to provide you with sufficient support and to ensure that you don’t sink in too deep into the memory foam. As the transition layer is constructed with high-grade polyfoam, it’ll provide you with sufficient cushioning and is also highly durable.

Fourth Layer –Body Shape Layer

As the name suggests, this layer will adapt to your individual body shape as it’s made up of hundreds of individual coils. These coils also help to provide a solid structure to the mattress. As they are individually wrapped, air can easily flow through the spaces within these coils. This facilitates increased breathability and will prevent you from overheating during the course of the night. These coils also absorb motion; hence, you won’t have to worry about changing sleep positions and disturbing your sleep partner at night.

Fifth Layer – Base Layer

The final layer is made up of high-density DuraDense foam. It also forms the foundation of the mattress and helps to provide support for all of the other layers.

Firmness

The Helix Midnight veers towards medium on the firmness scale. Out of a 10, it sits at about a 6.5. Since it has medium firmness, it’s most suited to individuals that prefer to sleep on their side as there’s just the right balance of cushion and support.

What’s unique about Helix, is that their bed usually comes in one firmness type. In fact, there’ve created different mattresses with different firmness levels. If you prefer a mattress that’s a little plusher, you can check out the Helix Sunset or the Helix Moonlight model. If you prefer something that’s a little firmer, the Helix Twilight or the Helix Dawn would be able to better cater to your needs. If you have a sleep partner, and you both prefer different firmness levels, you can try out the two-sided dual comfort mattress that has two different firmness levels on each bed. Helix also has mattresses that are catered to plus-side sleepers. So, basically, Helix has mattresses to suit every individual and their own unique needs.

Feel

The Helix Midnight model has quite a standard memory bed feel. When you touch the bed, you’ll get the softness of the cover before the slow sink in the feeling of traditional memory foam as it contours to your individual body type. Thereafter, you’ll feel a bit of firmness and support from the transitional layer that helps to make sure you don’t sink in too deep. With this dual combination of memory foam and coils, it also provides fantastic pressure relief.

Unique Features

Combination of memory plus foam and wrapped coils

While most other mattresses only have either memory foam or a latex material, the Helix Midnight is made of a dual combination of memory plus foam and individual coils to provide you with ultimate sleep. With this dual blend, you’ll be able to indulge in the softness of memory foam while also getting the firmness and support from a traditional bed.

A wide variety of options to suit individuals

While this isn’t a specific feature of the Helix Midnight, it’s certainly worth mentioning. The Helix range has a large variety of different mattresses to cater to your individual preferences. Hence, you won’t have to worry about not being able to find a mattress that’s suitable for you. If you aren’t sure where to start, head on over to Helix’s website to take the sleep quiz that’ll provide you with an answer that’s tailored to your comfort, sleep style, and firmness preference.

Breakdown of the Layla Mattress

layla-mattress-main-image.jpgcheck for price

Construction

The Layla Mattress is made of copper-infused foam that provides multiple benefits. Some of these benefits include antimicrobial protection, additional support and being able to keep you feeling cooler throughout the night.

While most mattresses provide one mattress in different firmness levels, the Layla has uniquely designed a two-sided mattress. While one side of the mattress is softer, the other is firmer. If you’d like to sleep on the softer side, all you’d have to do is flip the bed over.

Top Layer – Soft Cover

Since its material is made up of a blend of 66% polyester, 30% viscose and 4% poly/lycra, the cover is luxuriously soft, and you can easily remove it and send it for dry cleaning. The cover also has a special thermogel that will help to regulate temperature and prevent you from overheating during the course of the night. Great for night sweats!

Second Layer – Memory Foam that has been infused with copper

The second layer of the bed is made up of copper-infused memory foam. Since the memory foam is three inches, it’s rather thick, and you’ll get that slow sink in feeling. Similar to other memory foam mattresses, you’ll feel the memory foam contouring to your body while providing adequate pressure relief. The addition of copper in the memory foam will also aid in keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Third Layer – Convoluted Support Foam

The third two-inch layer is made up of poly foam and forms the transition layer between the softer memory foam on top and the more firm base support foam below. This layer also not only supports your body but also has an egg crate design to facilitate air flow that will help in regulating your body temperature at night.

layla-mattress-new-layers.jpg

Fourth Layer – Base Support Foam

This is the thickest layer of the Layla thus being the main component of the structure of the mattress. The 4.5 inches of poly foam also helps in providing firmness between the memory foam layer below and the convoluted support foam on top.

Fifth Layer – Memory Foam that has been infused with copper

The last layer has the same structure as the second layer of the mattress, and this is due to the unique double-sided firmness feature. This side of the bed is suited for individuals that prefer a mattress that’s firmer. As there’s no transition layer here between the memory foam and base support foam, you’ll be provided with more support and won’t sink in as far.

Firmness

layla-mattress-firm-side.jpg

Since the Layla is a two-sided bed, there are a total of two different firmness levels that are able to cater to each individual. If you prefer a softer mattress, you’d sleep on the plusher side that’s rated about a five on the firmness scale. You’ll slowly sink into the memory foam and feel it contouring to your body.

On the other hand, if you’d rather sleep on a firmer mattress, you can relax on the firmer side that’s rated about a 6.5 on the firmness scale. Since it’s slightly firmer than the plusher side of the mattress, you’ll also receive a little more support.

If you were to compare the two, however, there aren’t any stark differences between their firmness levels. In fact, the difference is ever so slight as they both veer towards the medium firmness spectrum.

Feel

couple-in-a-layla-mattress.jpg

Depending on which side of the mattress you’re on, there’s a slight difference in the way that they feel. For the softer side of the Layla Mattress, you’ll not only notice that the mattress is thicker, but you’ll also feel yourself slowly sinking into the three-inch copper-infused memory foam.

For the firmer side of the mattress, the softness and comfortability rating doesn’t decrease. However, you’ll notice that the mattress is a little firmer and provides your body with a sturdier amount of support. Hence, you won’t be sinking in as much in comparison to the softer side of the mattress. In fact, the mattress will bounce back a little more thus providing you with a bit more support.

Unique Features

Copper Infused

The Layla Mattress is copper-infused – a unique feature that most other mattresses do not have. The addition of copper provides multiple benefits to the mattress such as providing your shoulders and hips with support, antimicrobial properties to destroy microbes and helping to carry away heat which will allow you to feel nice and cool.

Double-Sided

Since most individuals struggle with the firmness level of their mattress, the Layla Mattress will help you resolve that issue. With a double-sided feature, you can easily flip over the mattress depending on the firmness preference that you require. Want to sleep on the firmer side today? No problem, just quickly flip the Layla Mattress over and you’re good to go! No more headaches about having to exchange or purchase a new mattress.

Which One to Get?

Helix Midnight Mattress

helix-Midnight-angle-featured-image-1.jpgCHeck for price

If you’re looking specifically at the Helix Midnight Mattress, this would be an ideal purchase for individuals that prefer to sleep on their side. The mattress has the right amount of density for both the top and middle layers – providing optimal support for a side sleeper. The Helix Midnight Mattress also has that classic memory foam feeling of slowly sinking into ultimate comfort. While you won’t sink in too far due to the individual coils, you will sink a little further in comparison to other mattresses that are made with the hybrid material.

If you’re worried about sleeping on memory foam mattresses as they tend to be stuffier than other mattresses, this may not be an ideal choice. While the Helix Midnight Mattress does have some qualities such as the two-touch cover that’ll keep you nice and fresh, it may not be sufficient. Instead, you can choose to upgrade to an Ultra-Cool Cover or take the sleep quiz and find a mattress that’s more suitable for you.

In terms of cost, the Helix Midnight Mattress is a tad more expensive than the Layla Mattress. However, it is made of durable material so that you can ensure that it’s long-lasting for a number of years.

The Layla Mattress

layla-mattress-table-image.jpgcheck for price

If you tend to feel stuffy or overheat while sleeping in memory foam mattresses, the Layla Mattress will be the perfect mattress for you. With the infusion of copper in the mattress, you’ll be kept feeling cool throughout the night.

For your convenience, the Layla Mattress also has a double-sided firmness option. Instead of having to buy multiple mattresses with different firmness levels, you can easily flip over the mattress to your preferred side of soft or firm. This would be especially beneficial for individuals that are picky about the firmness levels of their mattress.

While slightly cheaper than the Helix Midnight Mattress, the Layla Mattress is a somewhat affordable option that doesn’t compromise on quality and does have some more advanced features. The Layla Mattress would also be ideal for individuals that would like a more affordable mattress that they can comfortably sleep on for many years.
