Iso-Cool 11-ounce Quilted Mattress Pad Review
Our Rating: (9.0 / Out Of 10)
I can’t count how many nights I have climbed into a nice, cool bed, only to be woken hours later in a warm, damp funk. If you’ve had similar experiences, you may want to take a look at a mattress pad with some sort of cooling properties.
Bed covers come in many shapes and sizes, these days. Well, maybe not so many shapes, but certainly in different varieties.
The Iso-Cool quilted pad features a few great options to give you a good night’s sleep, both through temperature regulation and some all-important softness.
Read on for some more information on this product and to find out how I felt about it.

The Iso-Cool’s primary purpose is to help you get a better night’s sleep. In order to accomplish this, it uses some fancy technology in the form of its Outlast Adaptive Comfort material. This stuff is made to keep you cool on hot nights and warm and cozy when it gets cold.
To help out the Outlast material, the bed pad features a spiral spun polyester fill under a 100 percent cotton quilted cover. I found it to be of fairly good quality in the seams and the stretchy spandex siding fit my mattress quite well.
If you’re finding yourself waking up in the middle of the night because you’ve gotten just a bit too warm, this product could very well be the answer to your problem. If you need a little extra comfort and softness, there may be some better products out there, but the Iso-Cool product offers that, as well.
- Multiple sizes ranging from full to California king
- Stitching keeps filling in place
- Spiral spun polyester filling offers great softness
- Doesn’t bunch up on mattress from use
- Machine washable
- Larger sizes may not fit in standard washer
The most impressive feature of the Iso-Cool mattress pad is its Outlast Adaptive Comfort material. These microscopic Phase Change Material beads, or PCMs, are where all the magic happens.
When you first put your hand on the unique pad, it’s cool to the touch. What these PCMs do, according to the company who creates them, is sense the temperature of your body. If it’s too warm, they’ll absorb some heat. If it’s too cold, they’ll let a bit out.
In practice, I found this to be mostly true. After a night of sleeping on the product, I did find the Iso-Cool pad warmed a bit, but never to the point where I felt overheated.
The company boasts their range of Iso-Cool products has the highest available concentration of PCMs. I can’t verify that, but I can say this product stands a good chance of helping you regulate your temperature overnight, as it worked for me.
While the Iso-Cool mattress pad isn’t anything amazing to look at, which is fine because you’ll have a sheet over it pretty much all the time, it is a joy to feel.
The quilted top is filled with a spiral spun polyester fiber fill, which gives it a good bit of loft while maintaining its shape. According to the product description, you’re looking at about 11 ounces of the stuff per square yard, which I feel is not a bad distribution for what is more of a secondary aspect of this product.
It’s enough material to make it feel akin to a pillow top mattress, though perhaps not quite to the same extreme. The 100 percent cotton cover, featuring a thread count of 300, also goes a long way toward making your sleep that much better.
Like all bedding, it’s important to keep your beloved pad clean. The Iso-Cool mattress pad claims it is machine washable, so I put it to the test.
After running on a light cycle with cool water and no detergent, then tumble dried on a low setting, this awesome product came out without any visible issues.
I tested this with the queen size bed cover, so your mileage may vary if you get to the larger sizes and try to wash with a home washing machine.
If this is your first time considering a mattress pad, let me lay out some advice for you.
I have used a mattress cover or pad for years. Not only does it add some extra comfort, I feel it has greatly extended the life of my mattresses. Between the sweat and oils of your body, not to mention regular ol’ wear-and-tear, a mattress pad can be a shield to keeping your investment healthy.
Bed pads also give you some added flexibility in customizing your sleeping environment. Should you begin to start feeling pain when waking up, putting on a softer or firmer mattress pad can be the key to getting you back into top form.
Do you have children or pets? While not all types of pads are waterproof or hypoallergenic, they can all still serve as, at least, a small barrier between the things you love and permanent damage to your mattress.
I have both kids and pets, and I can’t count the number of times our mattress pad has protected our bed from spilled food, knocked-over glasses or other, less savory things.
The Iso-Cool line doesn’t stop with this mattress pad. The line also features polyester and foam pillows, not to mention a couple toppers, including one with a 3-inch, high-density visco-elastic foam mattress pad.
After seeing how well the bed pad works, I’m particularly interested in giving the Iso-Cool polyester pillows a go, as they include the same temperature-regulating technology found in the pad and toppers.
Though the lion’s share of reviews for the Iso-Cool product are five stars, the lower ratings shouldn’t be shied away from.
Several people claim the product is slippery enough to allow a fitted sheet to slip off of it over time. Another claims the mattress pad began to deteriorate over time, causing the polyester fiber fill to be exposed.
Others claim the product actually made them warmer than they were when using nothing at all. In my searching, though, very few claimed it was uncomfortable.
In spite of those reviews, however, most people claim the product works very well. Reviewers extol the temperature regulating qualities of the bed pad and claim they’re happy to own it.
If you have a foam mattress or topper that feels good to start but has you waking up drenched in sweat, the Iso-Cool mattress pad might be a great fit for you.
Even if you’re just looking to stay a bit cooler or add some softness to your old spring-style mattress, this product could be the answer.
And let’s not forget the other great benefits a mattress pad can offer: protection from wear-and-tear, spills, general comfort and more.
Thanks to its use of PCMs, this particular product does a great job of keeping you cool while you’re getting your rest on, which is exactly what you want it to do.
