Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress

Are you in the market for a temporary sleep solution? Air mattresses can prove to provide an effective way to accommodate guests or accommodate you on camping trips, and today, we’re going to take a look at the Insta-Bed Raised air mattress.

You can see this mattress stands pretty high off the ground, and that’s because it’s a total of 18 inches thick. This makes it feel much more natural when you get in and out of bed. Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons.

 Material: Poly-filament webbing

Nearly Autonomous Inflation Process with Never Flat Pump

Let’s start from the beginning and go through the inflation process. It’s pretty simple with the built-in air pump. You’ll need to be near a power source or have a portable, rechargable air pump on hand. This can be especially helpful if you’ll be using it during camping. Once it’s plugged in, just turn the pump knob to the firmness setting of your choice and allow it to air up. I like mine slightly plush, and it took me right around three minutes to completely air the product up.

Mattress Prevents Leakage Automatically

This product features a Never Flat pump, and this works to overcome the common problem found in air beds of losing air through the course of a typical eight hour sleep session. As long as the mattress is plugged in, a secondary pump will kick in when deflation occurs to keep your mattress aired up throughout the night. It’s able to do so by continually measuring air pressure, and it can be setup to maintain plush, medium, or firm settings. This is a unique feature that works very well when used indoors.

The secondary pump isn’t very loud, and I was never disturbed when it turned on. With many cheaper air mattress options, you can find yourself sunk uncomfortably into the middle of the mattress in the at night causing pain that can last well into the next day, so it was refreshing to get a full-night’s sleep on a temporary sleep solution.

If you carry a lot of weight and have struggled to find an air bed in the past capable of offering continued support, I think this could be an excellent choice. I’d recommend very light sleepers to lay with your head away from the pump to avoid being disturbed when the secondary pump kicks in.

Mattress Cover and Sheet Fitting

I have the tan model, but you can also choose white or grey. Regardless of the color, your cover will feature a flocked top. Flock consists of small fiber particles that are commonly deposited into the surface of air mattresses, and they work to help keep your sheet from slipping off. You’ll also notice lips on sides of the mattress, and these aid in keeping fitted sheets in place.

Even though this product is pretty thick, I had no trouble using standard queen-size fitted sheets, and I experienced no problems with my bedding slipping off. There have been some complaints about the feel of the distinct indentations you can see on the surface. If you think this may be something that’ll bother you, the supplemental purchase of an air mattress sleep topper can add comfort and eliminate direct contact with the air bed surface.

Insta-Bed Comfort and Support

Let’s face it. Some air beds can be downright uncomfortable. If it’s been awhile since you’ve used one, I’m here to tell you that technology has come a long way. You can sleep comfortably on temporary sleep products, and Insta-Bed makes this easy with a high coil count.

Durability Through High Coil Count and Reinforcements

Here in the queen model, you’ll find 35 circular coils. The twin model features 21, and they work to provide a comfortable sleep surface. To accommodate support, there are also vertical and horizontal reinforcements strategically placed within the product. Even though I didn’t use a mattress topper, I was able to remain very comfortable and supported. I think if you were to add a topper, you could easily forget you’re sleeping on an air bed.

Mattress Deflation

I’ve tried out quite a few air mattresses, and a problem I’ve encountered is motor burnout. One product’s motor in particular started smoking as I was airing it up. Insta-Bed includes technology to ensure this doesn’t happen with their automatic shutoff feature.

I’m a multitasker, and I know how distractions can cause you to forget what you’re doing sometimes. If you walk away from your Insta-Bed air mattress while it’s airing up, it’ll shut off automatically when it reaches your desired firmness selection. This is a great addition that can increase your mattresses durability. When done using your Insta-Bed, just turn the knob to deflate and sit back as it goes flat in about three minutes depending on your firmness setting. The convenient carrying bag makes storage easy.

Notes for Campers

If your primary purpose in air bed shopping is for camping, keep in mind there are a few limitations with this product. I took mine camping, and I had to take the product up to a nearby shelter to air it up. Using a bungee cord, you can easily keep the aired-up product on top of the vehicle. However, the secondary pump won’t kick in if you aren’t plugged in, so you very well may experience sinkage through the night. Furthermore, the queen model weighs around 25 pounds. This isn’t much considering the quality, but it can get heavy if you’re hiking.

If you’re an avid outdoors person, you may want to seek out a product made specifically for camping. However, for occasional trips or for primary use in accommodating indoor usage needs, the Insta-Bed raised air mattress is one of my favorites.

Size

The dimensions of the Insta-Bed Raised air mattress are 60 x 80 x 18 inches for the queen model, and it weighs around 25 pounds. I think you’ll find the thickness makes it more natural to get in and out of bed. However, the size can be a downside for camping since it is a little on the heavy side.

Insta-Bed Reviews and Feedback

Of the air mattresses I’ve tried out so far, this is among my top three favorites. I love the Never Flat pump, and I found it to be highly effective in keeping me well-supported through the night. It’s proven to be a great solution when the kids have friends over, and I was able to make the most of it during a recent camping trip.

If you camp a lot or plan to set up camp away from traditional campgrounds, I’d recommend seeking out a mattress made for camping. The SoundAsleep Camping Series air mattress is a great option to consider. It lacks the Never Flat pump and is very low to the ground, but it’s made specifically with the camper in mind.

Let’s take a look at what other Insta-Bed air mattress owners had to say.

Pros

  • Height makes it easy to transition in and out of bed
  • Never-Flat pump is quiet and keeps the bed consistently aired through the night
  • Ability to customize firmness is convenient
  • Fitted sheets stay in place
  • Carrying bag makes it easy to transport and store the product

Cons

  • Not well-suited for camping
  • Product is heavy for an air mattress
  • Some complaints of the distinct indentations on cover causing discomfort

Our Final Verdict

The Insta-Bed Raised air mattress comes in queen and twin sizes, so it’s easy to find a size to meet your needs. The additional high coil count and secondary pump are features often lacking in air beds, and I found them to take this common temporary sleep solution to a new level. In my experience, I found the reinforcements to do an excellent job at maintaining shape.

I really enjoyed the Never Flat pump. You could barely hear it when it kicks on, and it did a great job maintaining firmness all night long. If you carry more weight and have struggled with a saggy air mattress in the past, I think you’ll find this to be a breath of fresh air.

Insta-Bed accepts returns within 30 days of purchase. This is only a month, so I’d definitely suggest using your product soon after it arrives to ensure it’s going to work for you. Also, make sure you keep your proof of purchase handy. Overall, I think the Insta-Bed Raised air mattress offers great value for a temporary sleep solution.
