Helix is a personalized memory foam/pocketed microcoil mattress that you basically make yourself. With different thicknesses of each foam layer and a base of coils, you get a hybrid mattress that’s suited to your sleep preferences.

Additionally, you don’t have to settle for just one type of mattress to suit two people. If you’re a back sleeper and need a firmer surface than your side-sleeping partner who prefers a softer mattress, you can have both thanks to Helix’s split mattress option.

You also get your choice between twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. They’re all the standard sizes and a mere 10 inches tall, which means your standard sheets will still fit. That said, the dimensions on the sides could vary by up to an inch.

Whether you sleep on your side, stomach, back, or sprawl out starfish-style, the Helix Mattress will work for you. The Helix Mattress company takes a while to get their mattresses from their factory to your door, so if you need a mattress immediately, this isn’t the bed for you. It takes about 10 days, on average, to get the mattress. Also, if you’re unwilling to give up your platform bed with wide-spaced slats, you may want to consider another mattress. Although the Helix Mattress works on many surfaces (including the floor) it needs a raised platform to have either a solid foundation or slats that are spaced no farther than 4 inches apart.

One of the biggest issues with the Helix Mattress is the same issue that comes up with other mattress companies that primarily use foam as a base and as a topper. The warranty may be years-long, but it’s useless if your mattress breaks down in the wrong layer. In the case of the Helix Mattress, you have to prove that the foam has broken down so much within the allotted time that the dips are obvious. You must show that the mattress has at least a 1-inch dip without putting pressure on the surface. It’s possible for low-density foam to break down quickly, yet not show any indentation unless you lay down on it. It’s at that point that you can feel your body-shaped indent and get that bottoming-out feeling. If this happens, your warranty is essentially useless and you’re stuck with an uncomfortable mattress.

Support

Starting at the base, you get a layer of high-grade polyfoam that comes in a variety of densities to provide you with the right amount of support. For those who need a firmer surface, the base layer of polyfoam is going to be thicker and higher density. A high-grade and high-density foam is going to be extremely durable and should hold up for many years.

The Comfort Zone

On the top of your mattress sits a layer of Helix Mattress’ dynamic foam and/or a unique memory foam blend, depending on the firmness level chosen. The dynamic foam is a secret blend of ingredients that combines to create something akin to a foam-and-latex hybrid, while the memory plus foam is a blend of different types of memory foam to create a unique firmness and feel. 

The dynamic foam doesn’t sleep as hot as memory foam (you can make it clear in your questionnaire that you sleep hot to get more heat-reducing material that will keep things cool at night). It’s this part of the mattress that provides a cradling effect and offers the most pressure-relieving comfort.

The Support Zone

The base kicks off with a 6 inch pocketed coil unit to  provide pressure relief. They also do what a foam mattress cannot: they provide the bounce and buoyancy that is familiar to traditional mattress users. Although these small springs give more bounce to your bed, they’re individually wrapped, so you shouldn’t feel movement as much as you would with a traditional innerspring coil mattress. These coils also add edge support through a reinforced perimeter that ensures you won’t experience any sagging on the edges of the bed.

Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of this warranty and you need to save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will remain valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you can’t use the mattress improperly (no jumping on the bed!).

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more (which typically happens when low-density foams break down), you could qualify for repair or a replacement mattress. As long as you show your mattress the respect that it deserves, Helix has your back.
