Bunk Beds vs Twin Beds: Which One Is The Best?

When it comes to restructuring a room, especially a kid’s room, there are a lot of different factors to be considered. Is this a one-child bedroom or a room for multiple children? Are you trying to fit in as much furniture as possible, or do you have space to work with? When it comes to bunk beds vs twin beds, what is the best setup for this particular room?

Although a stacked bed is fun for kids and can help aid in space issues, will they be a better fit for you than regular twin beds? Twin beds are a bit more customary and can provide enough space for other furniture, but which would the kids prefer? If you have questions about these types of beds and aren’t sure which would be best for you, fret no more! We’ve compiled some useful information on both types of them to help steer you on a clear path!

Benefits of Bunk Beds

Popular with the Kids

Bunk beds are super cool to kids since they are easily stacked to create this “two-story” looking frame that kids find exceptionally awesome. Bunk beds are typically the size of regular twin models. The only thing is they’re stacked up on one another.

Convenient

They are usually the same size, but there are bunks that utilize a larger lower bunk and smaller upper bunk. The frames are stacked together with metal poles and/or wooden beams to help in support.

Space Saving

Stacked beds are a great space saver. Since they are essentially two stacked twins, bunks can easily be pushed up against a wall, leaving so much space for more furniture, toy boxes, or play sets. Bunks have been used for years due to this nifty space-saving reason.

They are also really great if you’re trying to provide a fun, funkier room setting than the traditional kid’s room setup. Bunks come in many different sizes, shapes, and colors, so you can easily suit any type of room décor or color scheme.

Downsides of Bunk Beds

Safety Concerns

Although kids think bunks are super great, sometimes parents worry about safety concerns. Since these are two frames stacked upon each other, it means that there could be the risk of some playtime accidents if kids aren’t supervised correctly.

Although the top bunk’s setup typically has a protective bar to prevent anyone from falling out over the side while asleep, that’s not to say that protective bar will prevent all accidents from happening. Kids will be kids, after all, and therefore, there will always be the risk of accidents. The problem here is that although it isn’t uncommon for kids to sometimes fall out of bed, a bunk, if not properly barricaded, could result in the child falling from a higher distance and potentially injuring him or her.

This isn’t too big of a deal for parents who are willing to supervise their kids or teach them the safety risks of stacked beds, but it is a bit off-putting for parents. Fortunately, with extended bunks at the bottom of the setup, odds are: a child will simply fall onto the bed below in the case of accidental falling. Other than the risk of falling, bunks are pretty safe. If you are still concerned about the safety issues, read the safety manufacture packet that comes with the bedding setup and instructions.

Hard to Dress

Well, the issue is more on the top bunk, anyway. Getting a fitted sheet on it is next to impossible without climbing the ladder yourself. Then getting the rest of the bedding nice and neat, just right, to match the bottom is a task in itself. It’s why the top bunk often becomes the storage area for toys.

Twin models are like bunk beds but without the risk of falling. Or at least, without the risk of falling from a greater height than the standard twin sized bed.

Easy to Dress

Twin models look especially well polished when utilizing the same color scheme or bedding. Matching sheets, comforters, and throw pillows make a kid’s room décor with twin beds look really great and neat.

Although this setup may not stay this neat for long, decorating a twin bed is a quick fix that will leave guests impressed at how well behaved your kids are. Even a room that utilizes twin beds that isn’t a kid’s room – guest rooms also look great with the twin bed décor.

Downsides to Twin Beds

Usually Sleeps One

If you’re using twin models for a guest room, make sure to familiarize yourself with the size issue. If you have guests that are staying over that aren’t used to the smaller size of a twin bed, it could result in some unhappy guests.

Conclusion

So what do you think you want to try for your next bedroom makeover? Think twin beds are the setup for you? or are you more partial to the bunk beds? Both are great in their own ways, you just have to decide which setup would be adequate for your own preference.

If I had to choose, I’d definitely get the bunk beds. Sure, they may prove a bit riskier, especially with young children, but they’re super cool and really save space to a room. I like bunk beds so much, I’d probably even incorporate them into an adult guest room. Why should kids get all the fun?
