Brentwood Home Oceano Unboxing

Mattress shopping should be an intricate process. Before I understood what all went into the construction of a quality mattress, I was highly susceptible to the clever tactics used by a tricky salesman. However, now that you can mattress shop online, the power’s in your hands to do the research necessary to know pretty well what you’re getting into.

We’re here to help you do just that, and we’re going to be taking a close look at Brentwood Home’s Oceano mattress. I was provided the queen-sized model which I recently unboxed, and I’m excited to see how their multi-layer construction works to address things like motion transfer, temperature control, comfort, and support.

Open-Cell Technology and New Zealand Wool for Temperature Control

Before you can slip into the deepest, most restorative stages of sleep, your body temperature must first drop slightly. In a mattress that has poor temperature control, this can be hard to accomplish, and your quality of life suffers. Oceano considered temperature regulation as they constructed their Oceano mattress, and it takes a variety of measures to keep you cool:

  • Open-cell technology incorporated into memory foam to prevent hot spots and draw heat away from the body
  • New Zealand wool helps regulate temperature with the seasons
  • Coil layer breathes naturally

Oceano Mattress Overview

— Firmness

Oceano comes in one firmness, and this is Medium Plush. Since I typically prefer a slightly plusher mattress, I really like the firmness level, but you may like something a little firmer if you carry a lot of weight. It feels pretty close to a standard medium, and this is typically accommodating for most people. During the course of the review process, I’ll be testing to provide a more detailed description of what you can expect in terms of firmness as well as seeing how this product measures up against the many others I’ve tested.

— Bounce and Responsiveness

Most products that contain a spring unit do pretty well when it comes to bounce, but you don’t want that feature to turn into a problem like excessive motion transfer. The addition of memory foam is becoming more popular in hybrid mattresses to balance bounce and motion transfer in innerspring products.

Upon first impression, Oceano seems to have great bounce. It responds very quickly when pressure is released from the combined unit, and this adds mobility to help make the transition in and out of bed an easy one.
