About Avocado

The Avocado mattress is a relatively new product, but in its three years of existence, it has manages to position itself in the mind of the consumer as one of the most eco-friendly bedding options on the market. The company was born when founders Jeff and Alexandra D’Andrea wanted to buy an organic mattress, and discovered that the market barely has anything to offer for a convenient price.

Most of the good models they found have spicy price tags, while the more affordable ones were all about false marketing, and barely had anything green about them. Seeing how deceiving and untapped this market is, they’ve decided to create a product that could actually meets the required standards to be an eco-friendly product, and sell it for a price that doesn’t break the bank.

But Avocado didn’t stop at mattress production. They also sell other bedding items that meets the same standards and have the same certifications, such as the Avocado Green pillow or the natural latex mattress topper.

Since the demand for eco-friendly products has grown considerably in the past few years, Avocado expanded their business as is also selling green furniture. You can buy a natural wood bed frame, a wood dresser, or an end table.

Mattresses Produced

For a long time, people have associated the Avocado brand with the Green mattress, but that isn’t the only mattress they sell. They have also added a new model, the Avocado Vegan, a model of similar quality and construction, but with a tiny difference in the materials used.

Materials Used

The Avocado Green mattress is a hybrid model which features latex, innersprings, and some of the most organic materials you could hope for. It uses natural Dunlop latex for its upper layers, to give the mattress a nice bounce, but also to support the sleeper when needed. The choice of latex also make the mattress naturally cooler compared to beds made with memory foam.

The core of the mattress lies in the pocketed coils, for great support and spinal alignment. Since they are made from recycled steel, they also contribute to the organic construction of the Green mattress. The cover features a blend of organic wool and cotton, making it super soft, comfortable, but eco-friendly at the same time.

Buyers who are not fans of wool, can opt for the Avocado Vegan mattress, which uses cotton instead of wool. For the rest of the mattress, the construction is similar to the Avocado Green.

Mattress Production

The Avocado Green mattress design is created in Hoboken, while the production takes place in California. But here is a very interesting fact about how the Avocado is being produced.

There is a worldwide-recognized certification, known as the Global Organic Textile Standard. This label is only given to products that meet social criteria, but also use organic fibers. There is also the Global Organic Latex Standard, which makes sure the finished latex foam and organic latex used in manufacturing meets the processing standards.

Currently, there are five mattress manufacturers in the entire US that meet these certifications, and the Los Angeles Avocado factory is one of them.

Warranty & Return Policy

The mattress is covered by a 25 year warranty, which is actually one of the most generous ones in the industry. That means that over a period of 25 years, you will be covered by any workmanship or material defects.

Every new Avocado Green mattress comes with a 100 nights of free sleep trial. Since not every person has identical sleeping preferences, some take more time to get acquainted with their new mattress. If you are not happy with how you sleep, you can return the mattress free of charge before the 100 night period expires.

What’s interesting is that, unlike other mattress sellers, Avocado doesn’t require you to pay any return fees. Instead, they will pick up your mattress and donate it to charity, or recycle it accordingly. None of the returned mattresses are ever resold.

Price Range

As always, the price of the mattress varies depending on the size. If you want to purchase the Avocado Green mattress is the Twin version, which is the smallest one available, you should prepared to pay about $899 for it. The prices gradually increased, as the Cal King model is worth $1,799.

Those of you interested in the Avocado Vegan mattress should know that the prices are identical, the difference being that the Avocado Vegan uses cotton instead of wool.

Availability

The Avocado mattress is a product that can be purchased online, as well as in a brick and mortar store. The company has its own showroom, for those who want to interact with the mattress prior to making a purchase. The showroom is located in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Shipping Availability

Normally, most online mattress brands deliver their products to the continental US, but they charge shipping fees for Alaska and Hawaii. With Avocado, that’s no longer the case. You can order your Avocado mattress no matter where you live in the US, as there will be no additional shipping costs.

However, you can’t purchase the Avocado mattress from anywhere else in the world, although the company hinted that this option may be available in the future.

Brand Popularity

If there is one word that truly described what the Avocado mattress is all about, that would be “sustainability”. Everything about the Avocado has placed it at the top of the list as being one of the most environmentally-responsible beds that came to market in the past decade.

When the management team over at Avocado looks for materials to use in the manufacturing process, they always make sure to opt for those that are made at a sustainable rate. Environmental factors are always taken into considered, and this is something that adds a lot of value to the brand.
