Reverie Adjustable Bed Reviews

Corey Majeau

t has been scientifically proven that sleep plays a pivotal role in one’s well being, and by extension, one’s success in life. The quality of your sleep is directly related to the quality of your bed, and Reverie is one sleep company that has based their entire product line around the idea.

With adjustable bases becoming popular among sleep conscious consumers, Reverie has devoted considerable scientific research and engineering towards coming up with adjustable bases that provided superb comfort, relaxation, and convenience.

Here’s my take on Reverie’s offerings, complete with select Reverie adjustable bed reviews, which should help you decide if this manufacturer is worth considering in your search for a relaxing, rejuvenating sleep experience.

Reverie Adjustable Bed Reviews

1. Reverie 3E Adjustable Bed Review – Editor's Choice

Highlights

  • Head and foot articulation
  • 850 lbs capacity
  • Programmable Wireless Remote
  • Nightstand App
  • 20-year warranty

Pros

  • Affordable.
  • High capacity head and foot articulation.
  • 3 programmable buttons in a wireless remote are quite generous for the price.
  • 20-year warranty.

Cons

  • No luxury enhancements.
  • No wall-hugging feature.
  • No power-out reset mechanism.

In spite of its low cost, the bed retains the same 850 lbs silently operating motor found in its pricier siblings, allowing for fluid adjustments at will. However, it should be noted that the base does not have a wall hugging mechanism in place, so you’ll have to deal with being a bit far away from your nightstand under maximal extension/elevation.

The adjustments are possible by means of a wireless remote (although not the stylish OLED one found in the pricier variants of course) and also by means of the Nightstand app over Bluetooth.

It is worth mentioning that despite the low cost of the product, Reverie still includes two programmable buttons in addition to the 3 presets in the remote – many others would have been content at just one programmable button at this price point.

One adverse consequence of the small price tag might be durability though, as there were a couple of complaints from users regarding defects, particularly in the electrical control system that is sensitive to faults.

Naturally, you can’t expect a power-out reset feature in cheaper models, and the 3E is no exception to this: thus, it isn’t for bedridden patients who need a thoroughly reliable adjustable bed to recuperate from an injury. That said, you can always avail the warranty on parts in the first few years if you run into any trouble.

2. Reverie 5D Adjustable Bed Review

Highlights

  • Head and foot articulation
  • Wall-Snuggler®
  • LED nightlight
  • 850 lbs. capacity
  • 3D Wave Massage
  • Programmable OLED Wireless Remote
  • Nightstand App
  • Safety features

Pros

  • Reasonable price.
  • Reliable, noiseless head and foot adjustment.
  • Controllable through wireless remote and app.
  • Wall hugging mechanism for always convenient positioning.
  • Includes important safety features.
  • 20-year warranty.

Cons

  • Does not include a power strip for accessories.

The Signature 5D adjustable foundation is Reverie’s mid-tier solution that combines fundamental head and foot articulation with the more important high-end features, as such, it is perfect for those who want an adjustable base that has a bit more class and luxury than a barebones offering.

In addition to head and foot articulation achieved by high-capacity 850 lbs silently operating motors, the base comes with Reverie’s signature 3D Wave™ full-body massage technology that operates at 10 intensity levels and 3 different wave modes, noiselessly relaxing your body to sleep after a hard day.

Thanks to the patented Wall-Snuggler® mechanism, you can always count on staying within reach of the accessories placed on your side furniture, and an LED nightlight ensures that you can find your way back to bed in the dark.

The bed also comes with important safety features that kick into action in the event of a weight overload or a power down, making it a good option for those who have kids or who have gotten the bed for the care of a patient.

You can control the 5D by means of a wireless remote with three pre-programmed buttons for your convenience. Furthermore, the bed has Bluetooth technology integrated into it, which brings advanced bedroom automation into the mix.

3. Reverie 9T Adjustable Foundation

Highlights

  • Head and foot articulation
  • Wall-Snuggler®
  • Lumbar Support
  • LED nightlight
  • 850 lbs. capacity
  • 3D Wave Massage
  • Programmable OLED Wireless Remote
  • Nightstand App

Pros

  • High-capacity, silent operation.
  • Wall-Snuggler mechanism.
  • Lumbar Support system for fine-tuned spinal alignment.
  • 3D Wave Massage.
  • Programmable wireless remote control with high-res OLED screen.
  • Nightstand™ smartphone app for controlling, setting up alarms, and custom profiles.
  • Charging station for electronic devices (including wireless smartphone charger and USB port).
  • 20-year warranty.

Cons

  • Extremely pricey.
  • Does not come with a pillow-tilt feature.

This is the top-of-the-line Reverie model, combining all their technological and aesthetic innovation into a single package, and it is, therefore, worth a look if you want a luxurious adjustable base that transforms your bedroom.

Besides the wall-hugging head and foot adjustments, achieved via a quiet 850-lbs electric motor and controlled through either a high-res OLED wireless remote or the Nighstand™ smartphone app, this base builds its value by including a number of enhancements.

Foremost is the augmented Lumbar Support feature, which adds another layer of adjustment to the foundation through which you can specify an angle for the lower back portion of the base to achieve optimum spinal alignment.

One of these is the 3D Wave™ Massage system that is also present in some of the other less expensive high-end offerings. Next, you get an under-the-bed LED nightlight for conveniently getting in and out of bed in the dark. ProGrip™ technology prevents your mattress from sliding down as you increase the head elevation and decrease the foot elevation.

Reverie has also included a hi-tech charging pad that can power up your cellphone wireless whilst simultaneously charging the base’s wireless remote via a USB port. Of course, the port can also be used to power up other electronic gadgets, thereby removing the need for long data cables that reach your bed from the power socket!

One thing I found odd about the 9T is the absence of the pillow articulation feature present in the slightly less expensive 7HT model. It is even more ironic that the 7HT does not have the Lumbar Support feature that the 9T does! It would have been nice if Reverie had come up with a model that combined both for maximum possible adjustability – back and neck pain patients would have loved it, to say the least.

About Reverie

Started by a couple of young entrepreneurs in 2003 looking to build the ‘bed of the future’, Reverie has evolved into a company that provides an entire sleep system, consisting of mattress and base, complemented with accessories.

Over the years, they have incorporated technological enhancements such as Bluetooth and the acclaimed 3D Wave Massage into their bases, and they started manufacturing inside the United States. Today, true to their original commitments, they offer specialized sleep coaching and assistance with the purchase of their sleep systems.

Even though you don’t have to purchase the entire sleep system and can go for the adjustable base on its own, it is nevertheless a mark of their commitment towards their aim of providing a holistic sleep experience for their consumers.

Highlights of Reverie Adjustable Bases

Plenty Of Options

Let’s face it – not all of us have wallets full of cash at any given time (although we’d all love it!); the exorbitant price tags that adjustable bases usually come with can be a major turnoff for those on a budget. Fortunately, Reverie has this covered because their product line has products for every price segment:

The most basic beds offer solid essential adjustment functionality minus the features that can inflate the cost. You pay more as you move up the hierarchy with more feature-laden products naturally costing extra. The highest end products are packed with amenities like USB ports, underbed lighting, a wireless charging station for your smartphone, an iOS app, a wireless remote, 3D Wave massage, and so on.

It is worth noting that the manufacturer provides a simple base that exclusively incorporates their massage technology without the adjustment features – this is ideal for those who are looking for a bedroom massaging unit and don’t want to pay extra for the adjustment features.

High Capacity, Silent Adjustment Mechanism

All Reverie products, even the cheapest ones, have an 850 lbs capacity that is enough to lift a bulky individual with ease. Moreover, the motors that enable this motion operate with whisper quietness, so you can adjust to your favorite position without disturbing the person in the next room.

The adjustment mechanism allows for infinite head and foot positions so that you can fine-tune the adjustable base to provide perfect spinal alignment. Furthermore, one high-end model comes with Lumbar Support technology that lets you make even more precise spinal adjustments, and another comes with head tilt support (a.k.a. pillow articulation) for precise neck support.

Wallsnuggler® Technology

This is Reverie’s take on the wall-hugging mechanism that is quickly gaining traction in the adjustable foundation industry. Available in their higher offerings, this feature simultaneously lifts you up and glides you back as you make an adjustment so that you don’t move farther away from the wall at any point.

In other words, it makes sure that you stay within easily reachable distance of your nightstand and the accessories that you have placed on it.

Remote Control

With the exception of one low-end model, these bases come with wireless remote controls that conveniently let you adjust the head and foot angles without the hassle introduced by a cable. The remotes come with 1 – 3 preprogrammed positions depending on the price of the product (e.g. zero gravity, anti-snore etc.).

Most of these remotes also come with extra buttons that can be programmed to remember your custom head and foot adjustments so you can achieve them rapidly in the future, and the highest end models’ remote controls have OLED screens for clearer viewing.

Smartphone App

The Nightstand™ app for the iOS and Android smartphone platforms is available with all models, and in addition to letting you specify the precise angles for the head and foot platforms (just like the remote control), it also enables you to configure presets and set up alarms, adding a degree of automation to your bedroom.

The app is controllable via BlueTooth™ so there’s no need for any pesky initial WiFi router setting (as is the case with some competitors).

3D Wave Massage

This proprietary massage technology is quite sophisticated compared to anything else on the market: instead of using simple vibrations that merely shakes the bed (and by extension your body) along one direction, 3D wave creates motion that changes direction, thereby ensuring better blood flow optimization and therefore, relaxation.

Another consequence of this constantly changing massage mechanism is that it is extremely quiet, which can be an advantage if you share the room with a partner. Moreover, even if you sleep by yourself, you’ll welcome the lack of distracting noise that can compromise the relaxing nature of a vibrating massage.

Aesthetics

The mid-to-high end models bear an understated grey upholstery with the frame given a hardened wood look (even though it is made out of metal). If you’re going for a minimalist interior, this is enough aesthetic appeal to eliminate the need for an additional bedframe.

Adjustable Height

All models come with the option to adjust their height in small increments. However, this feature is not as refined as some of the competition, where you can adjust the heights of the legs more freely, so that fine tuning the height to your exact needs is possible.

Mattress Retention

Most Reverie models use patented ProGrip™ technology to secure the mattress at all times (even when inclined downwards). This eliminates the need for retention bars that can mar the décor. That said, the manufacturer nevertheless includes retainer bars with its products, just in case you’re using a mattress that is not compatible with the ProGrip™ mechanism.

Safety Features

If you’re looking for an adjustable bed to recover from an injury (or for the same reason for a loved one), certain bases from Reverie come with safety features such as a power down that returns the bed to its original flat position upon loss of mains electricity.

This ensures that you’re not left stuck on the bed in an awkward position, which, if you’re sick and cannot move without assistance, can become a major pain after a while.

Moreover, all models have an additional safety stop feature that is triggered whenever the bed is overloaded, thereby preventing damage to the electrical motors. This is a useful feature if you’re dealing with hyperactive guests (read: children) who may jump on the head/foot of the base while it is in action (something that is thoroughly discouraged by the company in any case).

365 Promise

The Reverie 365 Promise is an exclusive program that is applicable if you purchase their high-end sleep systems that consist of both mattress and adjustable base. Among other things, this program gives you access to a professional sleep coach who’ll train you to become a better sleeper by creating a personalized sleep for your needs. You can call your sleep coach as needed.

The sleep coach will have access to informational resources and advice from Reverie’s Sleep Advisory board, consisting of various sleep specialists. In other words, you’ll be getting professional advice in the price of a bed, which may be something that people with chronic sleep disorders may appreciate.

20-Year Warranty

Reverie offers a 20-year limited warranty. For the first of these twenty years, you get full coverage of parts and labor, meaning that in the event of a defect, the manufacturer will provide the replacement parts and pay for the cost of shipping and labor required to replace the defective parts in the adjustable unit.

Subsequently, between the 2nd and 5th years, the manufacturer will only provide the replacement parts – you will have to bear the expenses for shipping and labor required to replace the parts on your own. After the 5th year and up to the end of the 20th year, only the frame of the adjustable bed will be covered i.e. there will be no guarantee for the electrical or electronic components of the bed.

This may seem like a stingy policy, but it is, in fact, one of the most generous ones in the market, and it starts making sense in that there is no way to absolutely guarantee reliable operation of an electrical/electronic components; for the more technically inclined, here’s a discussion on the factors that go into determining the lifetime of industrial grade AC motors (which are obviously not used in any adjustable base).

No Return Policy

It should be kept in mind that these adjustable bases do not come with a return policy. In other words, you need to be absolutely certain beforehand that a Reverie adjustable bed is indeed the best option for you. In all fairness though, this is pretty much what every other manufacturer does too – and I give credit to Reverie for putting it out in the open.

Support Material

Reverie has put a lot of effort into compiling support material to complement their products: for starters, the user manuals that come with their bases are extremely detailed, and it illustrates the assembly and operation steps graphically, so even those who don’t have a technical background won’t have a lot of trouble figuring things out.

The manuals are well organized and are easily labeled for quick reference. Moreover, there is an FAQ section for general queries regarding the products. What I liked especially was the inclusion of short YouTube videos that practically demonstrate the use of their Nightstand™ app, ideal for newbies as well as those who don’t like going through lengthy textual instructions.

White Glove Delivery

How you’re going to set the adjustable base up once you receive it is a legitimate concern: fortunately, Reverie offers white glove delivery service if you’re not particularly fond of instruction manuals, or you don’t have the tools at hand. This service costs extra if you order just the adjustable bed, but if you get one of their sleep systems, it comes free.

Conclusion

It’s hard to choose a single best option in the Reverie lineup because most of the higher end adjustable units in there have nearly identical features with the differences being largely subjective so that what may seem critical to one consumer may be a wasteful expense for the other.

Based on the price perspective though, I would give my vote to the Reverie 8Q, simply because it only sheds a couple of tertiary features from the creme de la creme 9T to achieve a significant drop in price. It does this without cutting out any core features at all.

The two features it does remove are wireless charging and the LED in the remote, but as it turns out, both cuts are useful in their own way! The rest of the high-end features are kept intact and considering the price reduction, this 8Q offers the best value for the money among better Reverie models.
