Let’s say you just bought a brand new mattress and you notice in their warranty that they will not honor it if there are stains or rips in it. How are you going to protect your mattress from these unfortunate events? Simple! Invest in a mattress protector, more specifically, the Bear Protector. For those of you asking, “what is a mattress protector?”, it’s a product meant to keep your mattress safe from mishaps or accidents and warranty in tact.

Bear sent me this mattress protector to test out to ensure product quality, value, protection and so much more. It’s tough to trust online reviews because not everybody tests the products like we do. So, with that said, let me tell you about my Bear Mattress Protector Review.

Breakdown Of The Bear Mattress Protector

The Bear Mattress Protector is a high quality waterproof covering for your precious mattress. This is supposed to guarantee that no water or moisture can get onto your bed because once this happens, there’s no way to fix it. This protector is five-sided, breathable, and has a soft top that absorbs spills and moisture.

The Bear Protector has HeiQ fabric technology that helps to transport moisture and heat away from the body and protects from dust mites, bacteria, and other nasty allergens. It has a 100% waterproof barrier that protects your bed from stains and liquid damage and comes with a generous 10 year warranty. It’s also created to work with Celliant technology and the Bear Mattress.

The Bear Protector may be best suited for those who have an issue with incontinence, pets, toddlers that frequently sleep in your bed, or if you sweat a lot in your sleep. I honestly wouldn’t suggest it for people who sleep hot or for those who don’t like to hear crinkling while they are rolling around in bed.

With all of their products, they strive to improve your sleep quality and recover from the everyday hassles of life. Their protector offers you that amazing 5-sided protection with an elastic grip to keep it in place. No more worrying about it sliding around or bunching up in the middle of the night. They understand that protecting that new investment is important to you, which is why they created such a high quality product. Let’s see how it held up against the tests.

Construction

The Bear Protector is constructed of a HeiQ adaptive fabric technology that is supposed to transport the heat and moisture away from your body. This fabric is said to be soft without any noise being heard while moving around on it. Unfortunately, for the first few nights, I did hear a rather faint crinkling sound while I was moving around, it also felt kind of stiff. The one good thing I can say, however, is that the top if it is soft, but it was definitely noticeable under the sheets.

The back of the protector is made with a 100% waterproof barrier, kind of like a neoprene material. It’s definitely a lot thicker than the traditional polyurethane backing that you find on the less expensive protectors, not to say that they won’t work just as well. I do believe that because it is so thick, it has a lot to do with it’s ability to soak up and retain the moisture and liquids that may enter it.

The other great thing about it is that its construction offers protection against bacteria, allergens, and dust mites. This would be particularly helpful to those who suffer from allergies. No more dust mites making a home inside of your mattress and making your allergies flare up each morning or as soon as you lay down in bed.

Protection

As I said above, the protector is made with that thicker neoprene-like material on the back of the soft, absorbent top. This waterproof barrier protects against most spills and protects your mattress from stains and damage. I did a water spill test to show how well or unwell the protector absorbed the spill using about 8 ounces of water.

The spill was absorbed rather quickly. After 10 minutes, the water was just about completely absorbed into the protector. After two hours, the spill was completely absorbed and almost completely gone. Once all the liquid was absorbed and sat for 8 hours, I lifted it up to see if it had soaked through the protector, which it didn’t. It held up just as expected, leaving my expectations completely satisfied

Breathability

The one feature of the Bear Protector is that it’s supposed to be breathable thanks to the HeiQ adaptive fabric technology. This technology is supposed to take your body heat and any moisture it creates and transport it out of the protector. Personally, I didn’t notice any coolness or any warmth being taken away from my body. I actually found myself sleeping warmer. I think that if I were on a mattress that has Celliant technology or if it was paired with the Bear Mattress, it would have worked better.

Comfort

There’s really not much on their website in terms of comfort features, but I do have to say that the top of the protector is rather soft. Once I put it on the bed and put a sheet over it, it felt a little stiff. I could tell that I was sleeping on it and I could definitely hear it. Although, it stayed in place and didn’t bunch up like other protectors I have tested did.

With all of the comfort features combined, such as breathability, moisture wicking, and softness, I have to say that it performed on an average scale for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of the overheating, which made me rather uncomfortable, and I didn’t like the stiff feeling under my sheets. Other than that, the softness of the top was great.

Maintenance, Care & Warranty

Taking care of your Bear Mattress Protector is just as important as taking care of your mattress. If you neglect to care for it, it may lead to mishaps that could effect your bed.

Maintenance

Maintaining this protector is rather easy. As long as you aren’t subjecting it to multiple large spills every night, it should be okay. Each time a spill or accident happens, you should wash your protector to ensure it doesn’t start to smell or decompose. If the backing starts to wear away from the constant moisture, it could leak through to the mattress.

Care

Caring for your protector is as simple as washing it in a machine and following the care instructions listed on the tag. You can wash it in cold water and with regular detergent. Do not bleach or iron. You can, however, toss it in the dryer on low heat or you can air dry it. I put mine in the washer and dryer and it came out just as nice as the day I took it out of the package.

Warranty

With the Bear Protector, you are given a generous 10-year warranty against craftsmanship and structural issues. So if you see anything wrong with it as soon as you take it out of the package or something happens to it that was the fault of poor craftsmanship, your warranty will be honored. With mine, I did not see any type of issues that would lead to my protector needing the warranty useage.

Return Policy

Here’s where I’m kind of disappointed in their policy. Once the protector is opened and used, you cannot return it because it’s “personal and intimate” in nature. They do, however, accept returns within 30 days if the product has not been used or taken out of the packaging. So if you try it out for a few days and realize that it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, you’re stuck with it.

Conclusion

The Bear Mattress Protector is a great concept and it really does protect mattresses from accidents, spills, leaks, dust mites, allergens, and so much more. In my opinion, it would probably work a lot better paired with a product made from the same material and from the same manufacturer in terms of keeping you cool. With both the cooling technology in the Bear Mattress and in the protector, it would probably work even better. It just did not work well with keeping me cool on the mattress that I have . Other than that and the fact that it felt really stiff at first, it’s a very protective product.

I do believe that it did its job keeping the mattress protected and I do not foresee this being an issue in the future. If you have pets that are prone to leaving presents on your bed, toddlers who spill everything, or a health issue that causes frequent accidents while sleeping, I highly suggest this mattress protector solely for that purpose.
