Lucid Encasement Mattress Protector

I think one of the most important things in life is health, and one of the biggest factors in good sleep health is a good night’s rest. This can be difficult to find even when our sleeping space is clean, but when it’s not sanitary, it can really interrupt your life. And I know that I tend to forget about things like dust mites, bed bugs, and sweat causing poor rest for me, not to mention the occasional spill. The solution to the problem is to invest in a mattress encasement of some kind.

Mattress protectors keep these nasty toxins, as well as bouts of incontinence and general household allergens from building up in your mattress, leading to a better night’s sleep and better health. Don’t worry about digging up dirt to find the best product for your needs. I’ve done the hard part for you and personally reviewed the Lucid Encasement Mattress Protector.

Lucid specializes in all things sleep, and the mattress encasement is no exception. I spent time reviewing the product thoroughly, and here, I’ve broken down what I found during my examination.

Breakdown of the Lucid Waterproof Mattress Encasement

When the Lucid encasement arrived at my door, I did what most normal people do. I took it and inspected the package. The material was sturdy, and a limited 15-year warranty was boldly printed in plain sight. I’m not a fan of ‘limited’ warranties because they seem a bit deceiving, but considering the length of the warranty doubles the lifetime of the average mattress, I couldn’t really complain.

Features & Benefits

I like to begin my investigation with the manufacturer’s website. The clarity and communication available can tell you a lot about the product. With Lucid, they have created a user friendly, organized site with easy to find contact information and plenty of knowledge to impart about their products. It was a very pleasant experience for me, so I moved on to my personal testing.

Protection

The biggest claims made by mattress encasement manufacturers are in regards to being waterproof, usually followed by odor resistant. So, these are my priority in testing, which is where I started with the Lucid encasement mattress protector. After all, they state the product is 100% waterproof, so I wanted to assure that was true. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I slept on the mattress encasement the first night to see initially if it protected against sweat. I find this crucial myself, since I can be a pretty heavy sweater during the night, and I see no point in bothering with a spill test if this test fails. In this case, it didn’t. The mattress was completely dry and odorless, though the protector and the fitted sheet left a little to be desired. I had sweated more than usual. But it held up to the test of protecting the mattress.

Onto my spill test! Again, I was concerned with the waterproof aspect as well as the odor retention of the encasement, I chose white grape juice as my tool of disaster and poured it right on. I left the liquid there for 8 hours, and I checked in every 2 hours. Throughout the process, there was no leakage or seepage.

Spill Test

Sometimes, the manufacturer makes a claim based on a short term test, rather than spending the time checking it over a long term setup. This is where claims become faulty. However, the Lucid encasement mattress protector does everything it says it does. I had to towel off a lot of the juice, but that was why I chose a clear liquid! Nothing stained, knowledge gained.

Construction

The encasement is made of two materials. The waterproof backing is 100% polyurethane, and the surface material is 100% polyester. The general pocket depth for these encasements can range from 6-18 inches, making it versatile. At the same time, you’ll want to apply it carefully to your mattress, especially if you don’t have a thick mattress with deep pockets. It’s important to stretch the material over the top and tuck it as tightly beneath the mattress as possible to avoid excess wear and tear, movement, or improper use. And like most of these types of products, it’s totally hypoallergenic which was a major plus for me!

Comfort

The level of comfort was completely dependent on my ability to fit it perfectly to my mattress. Each night, I got the material tucked tighter underneath, and at the end of a week, it was sleek and almost imperceptible, except for its softness. This was very important to me, since I can’t stand the wrinkling and crinkling of some mattress protectors. So, it just takes a little adjustment.

Heat Retention

I have yet to find a single mattress protector that doesn’t retain heat a little more than is comfortable. That being said, the Lucid encasement allows enough breathability through the polyester construction to help negate a bit of the retention caused by the polyurethane. Still, I had to make a few adjustments to my sleep space, including bringing a fan into the bedroom to help with airflow. I have definitely seen worse, so I can’t say the product isn’t successful based on the attempted cooling features.

Maintenance, Protection, Care and Warranty

The Lucid encasement mattress protector comes with a limited 15-year warranty. The limitations are related mostly to lack of adherence to the care and maintenance instructions, so if you follow them, you shouldn’t have any problems if you need to use the warranty.

That being said, caring for the product is an easy process. It is machine washable at any temperature and dryable on low heat. I personally think it’s better to hang dry to avoid any accidents with high heat.

Bonuses

I think it’s a bonus that the Lucid protector is rated a bed bug proof and dust mite resistant. But I really like the price. Sure, I’m a bit frugal, but aren’t we all? If the difference in quality is far less than the difference in price, I would much prefer to pay as little as possible. The Lucid encasement provides a high enough quality to be worth the very affordable price on the sticker, and I think all but maybe the richest people would agree with me!

Lucid Encasement Mattress Protector Reviews And Consumer Feedback

I trust myself to be a good judge, but I also like to give you the rundown from others, so you don’t feel that I’m biased. Here’s what I found in the online reviews from other customers.

Protection

I found that consumers were mostly pleased with the product. A few had some words of caution – for example, one customer bought a mattress and the encasement at the same time but bought only a 4-inch thick mattress. That meant the encasement was far too large. Others said that the Lucid encasement didn’t fit on their mattresses, and I would assume these are specialized mattresses that are super thick. Overall, people seem very happy with the material and how well it protects their beds.

Durability

I saw a couple of reviews that stated the stitching was poor or crooked, and I read one in which the zipper was not properly sewn. These are clearly warranty issues, a result of mass production in the world today. As long as these individuals got the warranty fulfilled, I don’t see a problem with a few defects. The rest of the reviews were very positive in reiterating how long lasting the Lucid encasement was, considering that the material is thin for comfort purposes.

Odor

Odor wasn’t a concern. I checked every morning and again before bed, just in case some sort of smell had crept inside the encasement during the day. But I never even got a hint of something. In fact, it didn’t even retain the scent of the incense I burn sometimes during the day! No one else reported any poor odors in their reviews, either.

Customer Support

Being able to navigate the Lucid website, find a useful customer service number, and learn more about the product itself makes ordering from them a piece of cake. I found several reviews touting the company’s patience and assistance during the warranty process as well.

Feedback on Features

It seems like the Lucid encasement mattress protector is a winner on all fronts. It offers effective protection against spills and other liquids, as well as general allergens and dust mites. It sleeps warm, but that’s aided by a light, airy top layer. Overall, the average consumer raves about the product.

Conclusion

It’s never fun to write a negative review, so I’m happy to report that my conclusions are good. I would recommend the Lucid protector to friends and family. It’s definitely worth the price.
